Kouluterveyskyselyn koulukohtaisten tulosten hyödyntäminen Meilahden yläasteella vuosina 2003-2006 : Stadian ja Meilahden yläasteen yhteistyö Koululaisten terveys ja toimintakyky -hankkeessa

Tämä opinnäytetyö on osa Koululaisten terveys ja toimintakyky -hanketta. Hanke on alkanut vuonna 2002. Siihen osallistuu useita helsinkiläisiä kouluja peruskoulun ala-asteista lukioihin. Työmme toimii loppuraporttina Stadian ja Meilahden yläasteen osalta. Työmme tarkoituksena oli selvittää Kouluterveyskyselyn koulukohtaisten tulosten sekä hankkeen puitteissa Meilahden yläasteelle vuosina 2003-2006 tehtyjen opinnäytetöiden ja oppimistehtävien hyödyntämistä. Tavoitteena oli, että koulu pystyisi mahdollisimman hyvin hyödyntämään Kouluterveyskyselyn koulukohtaisia tuloksia ja hankkeen puitteissa tehtyjä töitä. Näin ollen tavoitteena oli vastata osaltamme Koululaisten terveys ja toimintakyky -hankkeen osatavoitteeseen, joka on olemassa olevien resurssien tehokas käyttö ja yhteistyön kehittäminen eri toimijoiden kanssa. Teoriatietoon, tutkimuksiin sekä hankkeen puitteissa tehtyihin töihin tutustumisen jälkeen haastateltiin Meilahden yläasteen henkilökuntaan kuuluvia työntekijöitä, jotka olivat olleet mukana Koululaisten terveys ja toimintakyky -hankkeessa. Haastattelu toteutettiin teemahaastatteluna. Haastattelun teemat olivat Koululaisten terveys ja toimintakyky -hanke, Kouluterveyskysely, sekä koululle tehtyjen töiden ja hankkeen onnistumisen arviointi Meilahden yläasteen näkökulmasta. Haastatteluista ilmeni koululle tehtyjen töiden vastaavan koulun tarpeita ja olleen sisällöiltään hyviä. Oppimistehtäviä hyödynnettiin oppituntien sisällössä ja toteutuksessa. Opinnäytetyöt tunnettiin huonommin ja niitä ei oltu hyödynnetty samalla tapaa. Koulu toivoi lisää resursseja töihin tutustumiseen, koska niiden koettiin lisäävän käytännön tietotaitoa ja antavan uusia ideoita työskentelyyn. Tässä työssä ilmeni myös, että Kouluterveyskyselyn koulukohtaisia tuloksia on hyödynnetty opetuksessa ja muussa koulun toiminnassa. Koulu ei kuitenkaan ole tiedottanut oppilailleen tuloksia mielestämme riittävästi. Oppilaita ei ole kuultu purettaessa tuloksia eikä suunniteltaessa jatkotoimenpiteitä. Myös vanhempien mielipiteet ovat jääneet vähälle huomiolle. Kouluterveyskyselyn koulukohtaisten tulosten hyödyntämisessä koulun olisi hyvä ottaa oppilaskunnan edustajat ja vanhempainyhdistys mukaan tulosten purkuun sekä toimenpiteiden suunnitteluun. Kehitettäväksi jää tapa, jolla kaikkien kouluyhteisöön kuuluvien ryhmien mielipiteet voitaisiin kuulla ja ottaa mahdollisuuksien mukaan huomioon. Yhteistyö eri toimijoiden kanssa lisää erilaisia tapoja hyödyntää Kouluterveyskyselyn koulukohtaisia tuloksia. Meilahden yläaste on kokenut toteutuneen yhteistyön Helsingin ammattikorkeakoulu Stadian kanssa hyvänä ja toivoo sille vielä jatkoa.

Collective Marketing Arrangements for Geographically Differentiated Agricultural Products: Welfare Impacts and Policy Implications, May 2006

This paper examines the incentive of atomistic agricultural producers within a specific geographical region to differentiate and collectively market products. We develop a model that allows us to analyze the market and welfare effects of the main types of real-world producer organizations, using it to derive economic insights regarding the circumstances under which these organizations will evolve, and describing implications of the results obtained in the context of an ongoing debate between the European Union and United States. As the anticipated fixed costs of development and marketing increase and the anticipated size of the market falls, it becomes essential to increase the ability of the producer organization to control supply in order to ensure the coverage of fixed costs. Whenever a collective organization allows a market (with a new product) to exist that otherwise would not have existed there is an increase in societal welfare. Counterintuitively, stronger property right protection for producer organizations may be welfare enhancing even after a differentiated product has been developed. The reason for this somewhat paradoxical result is that legislation aimed at curtailing the market power of producer organizations may induce large technological distortions.

An Illustrated Guide for Monitoring and Protecting Bridge Waterways Against Scour - Project TR-515 - Final Report, March 2006

This report is a well illustrated and practical Guide intended to aid engineers and engineering technicians in monitoring, maintaining, and protecting bridge waterways so as to mitigate or prevent scour from adversely affecting the structural performance of bridge abutments, piers, and approach road embankments. Described and illustrated here are the scour processes affecting the stability of these components of bridge waterways. Also described and illustrated are methods for monitoring waterways, and the various methods for repairing scour damage and protecting bridge waterways against scour. The Guide focuses on smaller bridges, especially those in Iowa. Scour processes at small bridges are complicated by the close proximity of abutments, piers, and waterway banks, such that scour processes interact in ways difficult to predict and for which reliable design relationships do not exist. Additionally, blockage by woody debris or by ice, along with changes in approach channel alignment, can have greater effects on pier and abutment scour for smaller bridges. These considerations tend to cause greater reliance on monitoring for smaller bridges. The Guide is intended to augment and support, as a source of information, existing procedures for monitoring bridge waterways. It also may prompt some adjustments of existing forms and reports used for bridge monitoring. In accord with increasing emphasis on effective management of public facilities like bridges, the Guide ventures to include an example report format for quantitative risk assessment applied to bridge waterways. Quantitative risk assessment is useful when many bridges have to be evaluated for scour risk and damage, and priorities need to be determined for repair and protection work. Such risk assessment aids comparison of bridges at risk. It is expected that bridge inspectors will implement the Guide as a concise, handy reference available back at the office. The Guide also likely may be implemented as an educational primer for new inspectors who have yet to become acquainted with waterway scour. Additionally, the Guide may be implemented as a part of process to check whether existing bridge-inspection forms or reports adequately encompass bridge-waterway scour.
