In order to investigate the influence of the main chain structure and molecular weight on the sensitivity of photosensitive ester-type precursor of polyimide (photo-PAE), an improved method was used to synthesize several kinds of photo-PAEs with relatively high molecular weight. Their sensitivities (at 365 nm) were investigated, and it was found that some additives such as sensitizer and photoinitiator had the greatest influence on the sensitivity of photo-PAE, that the photo-PAE with BPDA and mPDA as the main chain structure had the best sensitivity (D-0.5: 5-10 mJ/cm(2)) among the studied photo-PAEs, and that the sensitivity did not significantly change with the change of inherent viscosity of photo-PAE. Meanwhile, the thermal imidization of these photo-PAEs was also investigated by means of TGA and IR analyses. Additionally, a discussion was made for formulation of PSPI resist. Firstly reported for Fe-containing transition metal substituted polyoxometalates was an unusual Fe-centered demetalation process induced by the reduction of ZnW11FeIII to ZnW11FeII which resulted in a new couple of Fe-relating redox waves at positive potentials. Formulas for decomposing of complex crystals to a sum of binary crystals are described and applied to the study of bond covalency in La1-xSrxFeO3 (0.0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.9) and Ca1-xSrxMnO3 (0.0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.5). The bond valence is treated by bond-valence sums scheme. The results indicate that, for both compounds, with the increasing doping level, the bond covalency and bond valence show the same trend, namely, larger bond covalency corresponds to higher bond valence. For La1-xSrxFeO3, with the increase of doping level, the bond covalency of La-O, Ca-O decreases in the orthorhombic (0.0 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.2) and rhombohedral (0.4 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.7) systems, then increases slightly for the cubic (0.8 less than or equal to x less than or equal to 0.9) system, but that of Fe-O increases for all crystal systems. A sharp decrease in bond covalency was observed where the crystal changes from orthorhombic to rhombohedral, while a smooth trend was seen for the rhombohedral-to-cubic transition. On the other hand, for orthorhombic Ca1-xSrxMnO3, the bond covalency of Ca-O, Sr-O, and Mn-O (4-coordinate site) decreases with the increasing doping level, that of Mn-O (2-coordinate site) increases.

A quantitative investigation of structure-property relationships has been carried out in the nonlinear optical crystals K2Ce(NO3)(5) . 2H(2)O and K2La(NO3)(5) . 2H(2)O, from the chemical bond viewpoint. Chemical bond parameters and linear and nonlinear optical properties of each type of constituent chemical bond of both crystals are calculated. Theoretical results agree reasonably with experimental data, and explain quantitatively their nonlinear origins in this type of crystal. This theoretical method allows us to calculate accurately the nonlinearities of complex crystals.

From the chemical bond viewpoint, LiB3O5 (LBO) crystal has been studied by using the bond valence theory of complex crystals. Chemical bond parameters and linear and nonlinear optical (NLO) properties of each type of constituent chemical bonds are quantitatively determined. Because of the different crystal structure characteristics of LBO from those of beta-BaB2O4 (BBO), the two anionic groups, (B3O7)(5-) in LBO and (B3O6)(3-) in BBO, play different roles in contributions to their own total NLO tensor coefficients of LBO and BBO, respectively. By comparison, we find that planar (B3O6)(3-) groups are the ideal structure model, leading to little cancellation of contributions of each kind of bond in these groups, and this gives us a useful guide to design new NLO materials in the future.

Ion salvation and ion association in polytriethylene glycol dimethacrylate (PTREGD)-LiClO4 gel-type polymer electrolytes were investigated. It was found that the fraction of solute existing as single ions (alpha(i)) decreases and that of triple ions (alpha(i)) increases linearly with increasing LiClO4 concentration, while for ion pairs, as the salt concentration increases, its fraction (alpha(p)) increases first and then falls down. The findings can be rationalized by the fact that the ionic conductance of the polymer electrolyte may be mainly contributed by triple ions and higher ionic aggregates with unequal numbers of positive and negative charges in the salt concentration range of practical significance, i.e. in the range of 0.5-1.5 mol/l. The temperature dependence of these fractions was also examined. In the case of tetraethylene glycol as the solvent, alpha(i) and alpha(p) increase as the temperature is raised, but alpha(t) decreases as the temperature increases from 25 degrees C to 85 degrees C. It seems that the increase of alpha(i) and alpha(p) results from the redissociation of triple ions at higher temperature, The same changing trend of those fractions is also observed when PEG(400) is used as the solvent.

The type of oxygen species in perovskite-type oxides LaMnyCo1-yO3 (y = 0.0, 0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 0.7, 0.9, 1.0) has been studied by means of XRD, XPS and TPD. The catalytic activity in ammonia oxidation was also investigated. It was found that there were three desorption peaks in TPD curve corresponding to three types of oxygen species (alpha, beta, beta'). The desorption temperatures were 293 K less-than-or-equal-to T(alpha) less-than-or-equal-to 773 K, 773 K less-than-or-equal-to T(beta) less-than-or-equal-to K and T(beta') greater-than-or-equal-to 1073 K respectively. The relationship among the composition, structure and the catalytic property of.the catalyst was correlated and could be explainned with a model based on solid defect reaction and the interaction between Co and Mn ions. The adsorption strength and quantity of a oxygen are proportional to the catalytic activity. The, result indicates that the synergetic effect between B-site ions seems to the benefit of the ammonis oxidation reaction.

Vibrational studies on the neuropentapeptide Leu5-enkephalin were performed for the crystal state where different specific conformations can arise. In the present case, the peptide adopts a double fused folded conformation (beta-turn), the presence of which in the crystal state is directly related to the nature of the solvent used for its crystallization. This study completes other work relating to similar conformations of isolated molecules. It can be seen that specific interactions in the crystal state perturb to a large extent the vibrational relationships between the amide frequencies and the specific sets of dihedral angles characteristic of the particular type of turn. The tyrosyl moiety and its frequency dependence on its hydrogen bond state was especially investigated both for the Fermi resonance and the hydroxyl bending modes.

The algebraic formulas of 1.5 and 2.5 rank are given for four space groups P2(1), Pn, Pna2(1), P2(1)2(1)2(1). It is better that the results of applying them to estimating general type of phases for four correspondent crystal structures. And a method of transforming algebraic formulas from 1.5(2.5) rank is proposed.

The algebraic formulas of 1.5 and 2.5 rank which can be applied to estimating +/- pi/2 type of phases for P2(1)2(1)2(1) space group were derived using the method of structure factor algebra. Both types of the formulas are satisfactory for two known crystal structures in estimating their +/- pi/2 type of phases.
