Sonicated vesicles of l-fatty acyl-2-w-(2-diazo-3.3,3-trifluoropropionoxy) fatty acyl sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholines were shown recently to form intermolecular crosslinks by insertion of the photogenerated carbene into a C-H bond of a neighboring hydrocarbon chain. We now report that photolysis of multilamellar dispersions gives a second series of products in which carbene insertion is accompanied by elimination of a molecule of hydrogen fluoride. The sites of crosslinking in the latter compounds have been studied by mass spectrometry using phospholipids with varying chain lengths of the fatty acyl groups carrying the carbene precursor. The patterns observed show that the point of maximum crosslinking is consistent with the recent conclusion that in phospholipids the sn-2 fatty acyl chain trails the sn-1 chain by 2-4 atoms.

The article describes the results of fatigue tests with sideflexing polymer chains conducted on a dynamic testing machine and in testing conveyors. A new approach is suggested, that allows a calculatory estimation of the fatigue life of these chains. Finally, a calculation-software is presented, that has been developed based on the test results and the new equations.

Depiction of an analysis of the loads and stress distribution in sideflexing chains revolving in 3D-conveyor systems. The article describes the results of measurements of chain tensile forces under different loads and in different conveyor sections. Consecutively new equations for the tension rise in sliding curves are developed and compared to the measurements.

We present a new model formulation for a multi-product lot-sizing problem with product returns and remanufacturing subject to a capacity constraint. The given external demand of the products has to be satisfied by remanufactured or newly produced goods. The objective is to determine a feasible production plan, which minimizes production, holding, and setup costs. As the LP relaxation of a model formulation based on the well-known CLSP leads to very poor lower bounds, we propose a column-generation approach to determine tighter bounds. The lower bound obtained by column generation can be easily transferred into a feasible solution by a truncated branch-and-bound approach using CPLEX. The results of an extensive numerical study show the high solution quality of the proposed solution approach.

The first part of this paper provides a comprehensive and self-contained account of the interrelationships between algebraic properties of varieties and properties of their free algebras and equational consequence relations. In particular, proofs are given of known equivalences between the amalgamation property and the Robinson property, the congruence extension property and the extension property, and the flat amalgamation property and the deductive interpolation property, as well as various dependencies between these properties. These relationships are then exploited in the second part of the paper in order to provide new proofs of amalgamation and deductive interpolation for the varieties of lattice-ordered abelian groups and MV-algebras, and to determine important subvarieties of residuated lattices where these properties hold or fail. In particular, a full description is given of all subvarieties of commutative GMV-algebras possessing the amalgamation property.
