Employing the general principles of classification of SU3 states, we have found 285 quantum number isomers (QNI), i.e. nuclei for which there are two possible SU3 quantum number sets, characterized by the maximal eigenvalue of the SU3 group Casimir operator, at the minimal value N-0(min) for the quantum number N-0 of the group U3(A-1) symmetric representation, allowed by the Pauli principle. 41 of these QNI can be attributed to the nun-excited, ground SU3 configurations of realistic nuclei. Two examples of QNI: Si-28 and Zn-60, have been studied in detail in the framework of the strictly restricted dynamics model (SRDM).

The main aspects of a discrete phase space formalism are presented and the discrete dynamical bracket, suitable for the description of time evolution in finite-dimensional spaces, is discussed. A set of operator bases is defined in such a way that the Weyl-Wigner formalism is shown to be obtained as a limiting case. In the same form, the Moyal bracket is shown to be the limiting case of the discrete dynamical bracket. The dynamics in quantum discrete phase spaces is shown not to be attained from discretization of the continuous case.

The dynamics of a pair of satellites similar to Enceladus-Dione is investigated with a two-degrees-of-freedom model written in the domain of the planar general three-body problem. Using surfaces of section and spectral analysis methods, we study the phase space of the system in terms of several parameters, including the most recent data. A detailed study of the main possible regimes of motion is presented, and in particular we show that, besides the two separated resonances, the phase space is replete of secondary resonances.

A probable capture of Phobos into an interesting resonance was presented in our previous work. With a simple model, considering Mars in a Keplerian and circular orbit, it was shown that once captured in the resonance, the inclination of the satellite reaches very high values. Here, the integrations are extended to much longer times and escape situations are analyzed. These escapes are due to the interaction of new additional resonances, which appear as the inclination starts to increase reaching some specific values. Compared to classical capture in mean motion resonances, we see some interesting differences in this problem. We also include the effect of Mars' eccentricity in the process of the capture. The role played by this eccentricity becomes important, particularly when Phobos encounters a double resonance at a approximate to 2.619R(M). Planetary perturbations acting on Mars and variation of its equator are also included. In general, some possible scenarios of the future of Phobos are presented.

This paper considers the dynamics of two planets, as the planets B and C of the pulsar PSR B1257+12, near a 3/2 mean-motion resonance. A two-degrees-of-freedom model, in the framework of the general three-body planar problem, is used and the solutions are analyzed through surfaces of section and Fourier techniques in the full phase space of the system.

Topography has been reported to be the major factor ruling the spatial distribution of Acrisols, Plinthosols and Gleysols on the seasonally flooded, low elevation plateaux of the upper Amazon basin occupied by Tertiary (Ica & Solimoes) sediments. In this study, detailed morphological and mineralogical investigations conducted in a representative 25-ha site were combined with hydro-geochemical data to relate the vertical and lateral soil differentiations observed to the hydro-geological history of that part of the basin. As a result of the uplift of the Andes, several cuts in the extensive Tertiary marshlands have formed, at first, slightly incised plateaux of low elevation. There, weathering under hot and humid climates would have generated a reddish, freely drained and bioturbated topsoil layer and the vertical differentiation in subsoil sediments of a plinthite over an iron-depleted mottled clay. The second episode of soil differentiation is linked to the replacement of the forest by a savannah under the drier climates of the late Pleistocene, which favours surface runoff and the infill of the incisions by fine particles. This infill, combined with the return to the present humid climate, has then enabled the local groundwater to rise on the plateaux and to generate episaturation at the topsoil/subsoil transition close to the depressions. Nowadays, ferrous iron is released from the partly iron-depleted topsoil weathering front at high water levels during the rainy seasons. It moves from footslope to low-lying positions and from top to bottom in the soil profile according to the groundwater dynamics. The present general trend is thus to the lateral export of iron at high water levels due to subsurface and overland flows, its vertical transfer during the recession of the groundwater and accumulation in a nodular plinthite. In the latter, ferrous iron is adsorbed onto its softest iron masses where it feeds the neoformation of ferrihydrite that rapidly dehydrates into haematite.

We investigate the Heston model with stochastic volatility and exponential tails as a model for the typical price fluctuations of the Brazilian São Paulo Stock Exchange Index (IBOVESPA). Raw prices are first corrected for inflation and a period spanning 15 years characterized by memoryless returns is chosen for the analysis. Model parameters are estimated by observing volatility scaling and correlation properties. We show that the Heston model with at least two time scales for the volatility mean reverting dynamics satisfactorily describes price fluctuations ranging from time scales larger than 20min to 160 days. At time scales shorter than 20 min we observe autocorrelated returns and power law tails incompatible with the Heston model. Despite major regulatory changes, hyperinflation and currency crises experienced by the Brazilian market in the period studied, the general success of the description provided may be regarded as an evidence for a general underlying dynamics of price fluctuations at intermediate mesoeconomic time scales well approximated by the Heston model. We also notice that the connection between the Heston model and Ehrenfest urn models could be exploited for bringing new insights into the microeconomic market mechanics. (c) 2005 Elsevier B.V. We revisit the long standing problem of analyzing an inertial electric charge from the point of view of uniformly accelerated observers in the context of semi-classical gravity. We Choose a suitable set of accelerated observers with respect to which there is no photon emission coming from the inertial charge. We discuss this result against previous claims.
