A 10 mol%Sc2O3, 1 mol%CeO2 stabilized-ZrO2 (SSZ) powder was successfully prepared using the sol-gel method. Subsequent SSZ electrolyte pellets were prepared by tape casting technique and sintered at 1400 °C, 1450 °C, 1500 °C, 1550 °C and 1600 °C. These were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). SSZ showed a pure cubic phase after sintering, the grain size of SSZ increased with the increase of sintering temperature. The SSZ sintered at 1550 °C showed the highest ion conductivity. The maximum power densities of Ni-SSZ/SSZ/La0.8Sr0.2MnO3-δ (LSM)-SSZ single cells sintered at 1550 °C were 0.18, 0.36, 0.51 and 0.72 W cm-2 at 650, 700, 750 and 800 °C, respectively. The polarization resistance (Rp) of the single cell attained 0.201 Ω cm2 at 800 °C.

In this paper, Sr2Fe1.5Mo0.4Nb0.1O6-δ (SFMNb)-xSm0.2Ce0.8O2-δ (SDC) (x = 0, 20, 30, 40, 50 wt%) composite cathode materials were synthesized by a one-pot combustion method to improve the electrochemical performance of SFMNb cathode for intermediate temperature solid oxide fuel cells (IT-SOFCs). The fabrication of composite cathodes by adding SDC to SFMNb is conducive to providing extended electrochemical reaction zones for oxygen reduction reactions (ORR). X-ray diffraction (XRD) demonstrates that SFMNb is chemically compatible with SDC electrolytes at temperature up to 1100 °C. Scanning electron microscope (SEM) indicates that the SFMNb-SDC composite cathodes have a porous network nanostructure as well as the single phase SFMNb. The conductivity and thermal expansion coefficient of the composite cathodes decrease with the increased content of SDC, while the electrochemical impedance spectra (EIS) exhibits that SFMNb-40SDC composite cathode has optimal electrochemical performance with low polarization resistance (Rp) on the La0.9Sr0.1Ga0.8Mg0.2O3 electrolyte. The Rp of the SFMNb-40SDC composite cathode is about 0.047 Ω cm2 at 800 °C in air. A single cell with SFMNb-40SDC cathode also displays favorable discharge performance, whose maximum power density is 1.22 W cm-2 at 800 °C. All results indicate that SFMNb-40SDC composite material is a promising cathode candidate for IT-SOFCs.

An Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) is a full disclosure document that discusses the environmental impacts of a proposed Class I action. The Draft EIS, which was distributed in July 2002, is incorporated by reference herein and made a part of the Final EIS.

Background Early intervention services (EIS) comprise low-stigma, youth-friendly mental health teams for young people undergoing first-episode psychosis (FEP). Engaging with the family of the young person is central to EIS policy and practice. Aims By analysing carers' accounts of their daily lives and affective challenges during a relative's FEP against the background of wider research into EIS, this paper explores relationships between carers' experiences and EIS. Method Semi-structured longitudinal interviews with 80 carers of young people with FEP treated through English EIS. Results Our data suggest that EIS successfully aid carers to support their relatives, particularly through the provision of knowledge about psychosis and medications. However, paradoxical ramifications of these user-focused engagements also emerge; they risk leaving carers' emotions unacknowledged and compounding an existing lack of help-seeking. Conclusions By focusing on EIS's engagements with carers, this paper draws attention to an urgent broader question: as a continuing emphasis on care outside the clinic space places family members at the heart of the care of those with severe mental illness, we ask: who can, and should, support carers, and in what ways?

The sediments of the Galicia Interior Basin in NW Iberia Margin are of particular palaeoclimatic interest as they are located at the boundary where the climatic oscillations of the glacial interval were interrupted by extreme events such as Heinrich events. These events are well characterized in Northern North Atlantic areas, but little is known about their occurrence beyond the Ruddiman belt. This study presents a combined environmagnetic and geochemical approach to the provenance and characterization of distal ice-rafted detritus (IRD) that occurred during the last glacial period in core CI12PC3 from the Galicia Interior Basin. The last six Heinrich Layers were identified by their magneto-mineralogical and geochemical properties. Their Sr and Nd isotopic signatures indicated that the Laurentide Ice Sheet was the major source for HL1, HL2, HL4 and HL5. However, the European ice sheets also influenced the initial development stages of HL1, HL2, HL4. HL3, HL6 and partially HL1, HL2 and HL4 were influenced by more juvenile provinces, such as Iceland/Faroes sheets and/or by the Fram Strait/East Greenland nearby areas. Separate provenance analyses of the coarse and fine fractions in the studied Heinrich Layers also indicated that IRDs and glacial flour sources might not always be the same. Our results shed unequivocal evidence that Canadian-sourced distal IRD are preceded by European-sourced IRD, at least from the H4. In our view, LIS and EIS instabilities registered in the Iberian Margin respond to the same climate forcing at different velocities.

An outline of the Pleistocene history of the southern Lüneburg Heide is given based on the interpretation of exposed sections and indicator-stone analysis. Locally, Elsterian sediments crop out at the surface, mainly near the Holsteinian kieselgur (diatomite), thus indicating the existence of a pre-Saalian relief. Most of the Pleistocene deposits were formed during the three Saali- an ice advances. The ground moraine (basal till) of the first advance (the main Drenthe moraine) and its outwash sands are only locally exposed and only at the margin of the Aller valley do they form a relatively extensive plain. To the north, they are overlain by outwash sands of the late Drenthe advance. Also the Uelzen end moraine consists mainly of these outwash sands. The Uelzen moraine was overridden by the same ice advance. The Warthe ice sheet left only minor traces ridge; its advance came to a final stop at the already dumped morainic material.

The selective solar absorber surface is a fundamental part of a solar thermal collector, as it is responsible for the solar radiation absorption and for reduction of radiation heat losses. The surface’s optical properties, the solar absorption (á) and the emittance (å), have great impact on the solar thermal collector efficiency. In this work, two coatings types were studied: coatings obtained by physical vapor deposition (PVDs) and coatings obtained by projection with different paints (PCs) on aluminum substrates. The most common industrial high performing solar selective absorbers are nowadays produced by vacuum deposition methods, showing some disadvantages, such as lower durability, lower resistance to corrosion, adhesion and scratch, higher cost and complex production techniques. Currently, spectrally selective paints are a potential alternative for absorbing surfaces in low temperature applications, with attractive features such as ease of processing, durability and commercial availability with low cost. Solar absorber surfaces were submitted to accelerated ageing tests, specified in ISO 22975-3. This standard is applicable to the evaluation of the long term behavior and service life of selective solar absorbers for solar collectors working under typical domestic hot water system conditions. The studied coatings have, in the case of PVDs solar absorptions between 0.93 and 0.96 and emittance between 0.07 and 0.10, and in the case of PCs, solar absorptions between 0.91 and 0.93 and emittance between 0.40 and 0.60. In addition to evaluating long term behavior based on artificial ageing tests, it is also important to know the degradation mechanism of different coatings that are currently in the market. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS) allows for the assessment of mechanistic information concerning the degradation processes, providing quantitative data as output, which can easily relate to the kinetic parameters of the system. EIS measures were carried out on Gamry FAS2 Femostat coupled with a PCL4 Controller. Two electrolytes were used, 0.5 M NaCl and 0.5 M Na2SO4, and the surfaces were tested at different immersion times up to 4 weeks. The following types of specimens have been tested: Aluminium with/without surface treatment, 3 selective paint coatings (one with a poly(urethane) binder and two with silicone binders) and 2 PVD coatings. Based on the behaviour of the specimens throughout the 4 weeks of immersion, it is possible to conclude that the coating showing the best protective properties corresponds to the selective paint coating with a polyurethane resin followed by the other paint coatings, whereas both the PVD coatings do not confer any protection to the substrate, having a deleterious effect as compared to the untreated aluminium reference.

Reconstructing Northern Hemisphere ice-sheet oscillations and meltwater routing to the ocean is important to better understand the mechanisms behind abrupt climate changes. To date, research efforts have mainly focused on the North American (Laurentide) ice-sheets (LIS), leaving the potential role of the European Ice Sheet (EIS), and of the Scandinavian ice-sheet (SIS) in particular, largely unexplored. Using neodymium isotopes in detrital sediments deposited off the Channel River, we provide a continuous and well-dated record for the evolution of the EIS southern margin through the end of the last glacial period and during the deglaciation. Our results reveal that the evolution of EIS margins was accompanied with substantial ice recession (especially of the SIS) and simultaneous release of meltwater to the North Atlantic. These events occurred both in the course of the EIS to its LGM position (i.e., during Heinrich Stadial –HS– 3 and HS2; ∼31–29 ka and ∼26–23 ka, respectively) and during the deglaciation (i.e., at ∼22 ka, ∼20–19 ka and from 18.2 ± 0.2 to 16.7 ± 0.2 ka that corresponds to the first part of HS1). The deglaciation was discontinuous in character, and similar in timing to that of the southern LIS margin, with moderate ice-sheet retreat (from 22.5 ± 0.2 ka in the Baltic lowlands) as soon as the northern summer insolation increase (from ∼23 ka) and an acceleration of the margin retreat thereafter (from ∼20 ka). Importantly, our results show that EIS retreat events and release of meltwater to the North Atlantic during the deglaciation coincide with AMOC destabilisation and interhemispheric climate changes. They thus suggest that the EIS, together with the LIS, could have played a critical role in the climatic reorganization that accompanied the last deglaciation. Finally, our data suggest that meltwater discharges to the North Atlantic produced by large-scale recession of continental parts of Northern Hemisphere ice sheets during HS, could have been a possible source for the oceanic perturbations (i.e., AMOC shutdown) responsible for the marine-based ice stream purge cycle, or so-called HE's, that punctuate the last glacial period.

Approximately 1.6 per 1,000 newborns in the U.S. are born with hearing loss. Congenital hearing loss poses a risk to their speech, language, cognitive, and social-emotional development. Early detection and intervention can improve outcomes. Every state has an Early Hearing Detection and Intervention program (EHDI) to promote and track screening, audiological assessments and linkage to early intervention. However, a large percentage of children are “lost to system (LTS),” meaning that they did not receive recommended care or that it was not reported. This study used data from the 2009-2010 National Survey of Children with Special Health Care Needs and data from the 2011 EHDI Hearing Screening and Follow-Up Survey to examine how 1) family characteristics; 2) EHDI program effectiveness, as determined by LTS percentages; and 3) the family conditions of education and poverty are related to parental report of inadequate care. The sample comprised 684 children between the ages of 0 and 5 years with hearing loss. The results indicated that living in states with less effective EHDI programs was associated with an increased likelihood of not receiving early intervention services (EIS) and of reporting poor family-centered communication. Sibling classification was associated with both receipt of EIS and report of unmet need. Single mothers were less likely to report increased difficulties accessing care. Poor and less educated families, assessed separately, who lived in states with less effective EHDI programs, were more likely to report non-receipt of EIS and less likely to report unmet need as compared to similar families living in states with more effective programs. Poor families living in states with less effective programs were more likely to report less coordinated care than were poor families living in states with more effective programs. This study supports the conclusion that both family characteristics and the effectiveness of state programs affect quality of care outcomes. It appears that less effective state programs affect disadvantaged families’ service receipt report more than that of advantaged families. These findings are important because they may provide insights into the development of targeted efforts to improve the system of care for children with hearing loss.

Tässä tutkielmassa tarkastellaan TSL:n, KvhL:n ja VirkamL:n sääntelemää oikeasuhtaisen seuraamuksen valintaa moitittavan sananvapauden käytössä oikeuskäytännössä muotoutuneiden kriteerien valossa. Tarkasteltavana on, millaisilla arviointiperusteilla huomautuksen ja varoituksen antamiskynnys sekä palvelussuhteen päättämiskynnys täyttyvät moitittavan sananvapauden käytössä työ- ja virkasuhteissa. Menetelmänä käytetään lainoppia tarkastelemalla TSL:n, KvhL:n ja VirkamL:n sanamuodosta tehtäviä tulkintoja hyödyntäen lain esitöitä ja oikeuskirjallisuutta sekä oikeuskäytäntöä. Valtion virkamiehen, kunnallisen viranhaltijan sekä työntekijän sananvapaus on turvattu PL 12 §:ssä ja EIS 10 art.:ssa. Sananvapaus ei oikeuta loukkaamaan muiden oikeuksia, ja työnantajalla on oikeus reagoida sananvapauden käyttöön, mikäli sillä esimerkiksi loukataan yrityksen tai viranomaisen oikeuksia taikka muiden työntekijöiden tai ulkopuolisten asiakkaiden oikeuksia. Sananvapauden rajoittamisen oikeusperustana on työsuhteessa TSL 3:1 mukainen lojaliteettivelvoite ja virkasuhteissa asiallisuusvaatimus (KvhL 17 §, VirkamL 14 §). Keskeistä seuraamusharkinnassa on työntekijän, viranhaltijan, valtion virkamiehen sananvapauden käytön moitittavuuden aste. Seuraamuskynnystä nostaa ja madaltaa oikeuskäytännössä muotonsa saaneet vertailuperusteet, joita tutkielmassa tarkastellaan. Mitä moitittavampaa sananvapauden käyttö on, sen todennäköisemmin seuraamuskynnys ylittyy. Arviointi tehdään kokonaisarviona in casu. Kaikkiin tapauksiin soveltuvaa yleissääntöä ei ole mahdollista asettaa lakien joustavien sananmuotojen vuoksi.

A presente pesquisa foi iniciada pela compreensão que, mesmo com os significativos avanços ocorridos nos últimos anos, relacionados aos debates de gênero, mulheres, feminismo, faz-se necessário, ainda, que educadoras/es consigam estabelecer diálogos nas salas de aula sobre o tema, eis que, ou está ausente ou é muito pouco debatido no âmbito das escolas. Pretende-se estabelecer uma relação entre o Ensino de História e o gênero/mulher no contexto da História. Para tanto, foi utilizado o conceito de literacia histórica, o qual aborda a História em múltiplas possibilidades e definições sobre como ela (História) pode ser “lida”, uma alfabetização histórica. Neste sentido espera-se que a abordagem de uma História local seja percebida como inter-relacionada com a História global. Para que tal propósito seja alcançado, serão utilizados os paradigmas da Educação Histórica e o conceito de Teoria Social. A partir da investigação das memórias de professoras e professores de História sobre a sua formação, busca-se identificar as influências que sofreram no meio escolar, e o quanto significou, para elas e para eles, estas nas suas vidas, os aprendizados e as dificuldades encontradas. Levando-se em conta que muitos trabalhos fundamentados em estudos sobre mulheres têm sido realizados por alunas/os da Universidade Federal do Rio Grande – FURG para a obtenção da titulação em vários níveis de formação acadêmica, na área de História, realizou-se um levantamento inicial, a fim de encontrar mulheres que escreveram sobre mulheres no Centro de Documentação Histórica Prof. Hugo Alberto Pereira Neves (CDH-FURG). Buscou-se também uma dissertação, resultante de curso realizado na Universidade Federal de Pelotas – UFPel. A partir da identificação de algumas mulheres que escreveram sobre mulheres e que se encontram atuando como docentes em sala de aula, ou em outros espaços onde desenvolvem atividades correlatas, idealizou-se conhecer como estão sendo abordadas, se o são, as questões relacionadas às mulheres no contexto em que se encontram essas profissionais. Por fim, foram realizadas entrevistas e buscou-se observar as coincidências e/ou divergências entre elas no tocante ao tema gênero/mulheres, no espaço escolar ou onde atuam.

O título desta obra define bem o programa proposto, no texto, que vai ser lido. Efetivamente, o que nele se preconiza é a promoção da inovação pedagógica, colocando, nas mãos dos formadores de formadores, um instrumento, que associa, indissoluvelmente, a investigação e a acção – pesquisar, em função da mudança da prática pedagógica, e investigar, mais uma vez, para resolver os problemas suscitados pela nova prática. E isto, num processo, que se quer circular, ou seja, teoricamente, ilimitado. Que tal programa é aliciante mostra-o o objetivo, que lhe está subjacente – fundar a prática pedagógica nas bases sólidas da investigação, ultrapassando soluções marcadas, em doses mais ou menos consideráveis, pelo subjetivismo, ou pelo intuicionismo, de horizontes necessariamente limitados. Por outro lado, nada melhor para dar consistência e firmeza à inovação pedagógica do que alicerçá-la, firmemente, na investigação, numa simbiose, que só pode resultar em utilidade para uma e para outra. A autora do presente trabalho mostra que estas expetativas teóricas e apriorísticas se não traduziram em resultados tão positivos como elas pareciam prometer. No entanto, após mais madura reflexão, parece que a prudência e o bom senso aconselhariam a moderar entusiasmos desmedidos. Efetivamente, aquilo que, em abstrato, se revela uma vantagem do processo, apresenta-se, na prática, como uma dificuldade, para não dizer uma desvantagem: como conciliar o rigor, sempre desejado, da investigação, com o seu caráter, eminentemente situacional, neste contexto particular? E, na exata medida, em que o alicerce da investigação não apresenta a firmeza desejada, o resto do edifício, ou seja, a prática, não pode deixar de vacilar. Eis porque as realizações e, nomeadamente, as inovações pedagógicas, se não traduziram, em termos quantitativos e qualitativos, naquilo que muitos esperariam. Falhanço, então, de um projeto que, dados os magros resultados, não justifica que se percam com ele mais tempo precioso e mais esforços? Não necessariamente. Este último é o parecer da autora, que à reflexão sobre a inovação pedagógica e à investiga- ção-ação, e bem assim à prática docente nelas inspirada, tem consagrado uma parte significativa dos seus esforços. In this study, the effect of anti-corrosion inhibitor addition to epoxy coating, on the disbanding rate was evaluated. First to determination of mechanism, the bare steel substrates were immersed in the 3.5% NaCl solution and the solution containing 1 mM anti corrosion. The Electrochemical Impedance Spectroscopy was performed after 5 and 24 hour. The results indicated a lower corrosion rate in the presence of inhibitor. During the time, charge transfer resistance, was decreased for the substrates immersed in NaCl solution, and increased for the substrates immersed in NaCl solution containing 1 mM anti corrosion. This result can be related to more stability of corrosion products in presence of anti-corrosion and film formation. The coated substrates, with four different concentration of anticorrosion in coating, were protected under -1.2 voltage in the 3.5% NaCl solution. After 12 and 24 hour, the EIS test and disbanding area measurement, were evaluate. The lower disbanding rate, more charge transfer resistance and less double layer capacitance for the coating containing 0.75w% inhibitor, were observed. The result of Pull-off test after 1 day immersion in 3.5% NaCl solution, showed more wet adhesion for the coating containing 0.75w% inhibitor. The images of FE-SEM electron microscope and surface analyses EDX on the coated substrate after disbanding and the bare substrate immersed in 3.5w% NaCl containing 1 mM inhibitor, were proved the formation of stabilized film.
