Dissecting drivers of plant defence investment remains central for understanding the assemblage of communities across different habitats. There is increasing evidence that direct defence strategies against herbivores, including secondary metabolites production, differ along ecological gradients in response to variation in biotic and abiotic conditions. In contrast, intraspecific variation in indirect defences remains unexplored. Here, we investigated variation in herbivory rate, resistance to herbivores, and indirect defences in ant-attracting Vicia species along the elevation gradient of the Alps. Specifically, we compared volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and ant attraction in high and low elevation ecotypes. Consistent with adaptation to the lower herbivory conditions that we detected at higher elevations in the field, high elevation plants were visited by fewer ants and were more susceptible to herbivore attack. In parallel, constitutive volatile organic compound production and subsequent ant attraction were lower in the high elevation ecotypes. We observed an elevation-driven trade-off between constitutive and inducible production of VOCs and ant attraction along the environmental cline. At higher elevations, inducible defences increased, while constitutive defence decreased, suggesting that the high elevation ecotypes compensate for lower indirect constitutive defences only after herbivore attack. Synthesis. Overall, direct and indirect defences of plants vary along elevation gradients. Our findings show that plant allocation to defences are subject to trade-offs depending on local conditions, and point to a feedback mechanism linking local herbivore pressure, predator abundance and the defence investment of plants.

1. Landscape modification is often considered the principal cause of population decline in many bat species. Thus, schemes for bat conservation rely heavily on knowledge about species-landscape relationships. So far, however, few studies have quantified the possible influence of landscape structure on large-scale spatial patterns in bat communities. 2. This study presents quantitative models that use landscape structure to predict (i) spatial patterns in overall community composition and (ii) individual species' distributions through canonical correspondence analysis and generalized linear models, respectively. A geographical information system (GIS) was then used to draw up maps of (i) overall community patterns and (ii) distribution of potential species' habitats. These models relied on field data from the Swiss Jura mountains. 3. Fight descriptors of landscape structure accounted for 30% of the variation in bat community composition. For some species, more than 60% of the variance in distribution could be explained by landscape structure. Elevation, forest or woodland cover, lakes and suburbs, were the most frequent predictors. 4. This study shows that community composition in bats is related to landscape structure through species-specific relationships to resources. Due to their nocturnal activities and the difficulties of remote identification, a comprehensive bat census is rarely possible, and we suggest that predictive modelling of the type described here provides an indispensable conservation tool.

Chrysomya albiceps specimens were derived from colonies kept under laboratory conditions. The oviposition period, total number of eggs-mass and the weight of the eggs-mass (average/female) presented significant differences between colonies regarding the sexual ratio of 1male/1female (situation I), when compared to the other ratios (1male/3female, situation II), (1male/5female, situation III), (3male/1female, situation IV) and (5 male/1female, situation V). It was ascertained that the increase in the proportion of females, resulted in higher weight and greater number of ovipositions and lenghtening of the period of oviposition, leads to a decrease in their lifespan.

An indirect estimate of consumable food and probability of acquiring food in a blowfly species, Chrysomya putoria, is presented. This alternative procedure combines three distinct models to estimate consumable food in the context of the exploitative competition experienced by immature individuals in blowfly populations. The relevant parameters are derived from data for pupal weight and survival and estimates of density-independent larval mortality in twenty different larval densities. As part of this procedure, the probability of acquiring food per unit of time and the time taken to exhaust the food supply are also calculated. The procedure employed here may be valuable for estimations in insects whose immature stages develop inside the food substrate, where it is difficult to partial out confounding effects such as separation of faeces. This procedure also has the advantage of taking into account the population dynamics of immatures living under crowded conditions, which are particularly characteristic of blowflies and other insects as well.

The equilibrium dynamics of native and introduced blowflies is modelled using a density-dependent model of population growth that takes into account important features of the life-history in these flies. A theoretical analysis indicates that the product of maximum fecundity and survival is the primary determinant of the dynamics. Cochliomyia macellaria, a blowfly native to the Americas and the introduced Chrysomya megacephala and Chrysomya putoria, differ in their dynamics in that the first species shows a damping oscillatory behavior leading to a one-point equilibrium, whereas in the last two species population numbers show a two-point limit cycle. Simulations showed that variation in fecundity has a marked effect on the dynamics and indicates the possibility of transitions from one-point equilibrium to bounded oscillations and aperiodic behavior. Variation in survival has much less influence on the dynamics.

In order to study the morphology of young Chrysomya albiceps forms, newly hatched larvae were collected at 2 hr intervals, during the first 56 hr; after this time the collection was made at 12 hr intervals. For identification and drawing, larvae were placed between a slide and a coverslip. The cephalopharyngeal skeletons along with the first and last segments were cut off for observation of their structures and spiracles. The larvae present microspines, which are distributed randomly throughout the 12 segments of the body surface; the cephalopharyngeal skeleton varies in shape and extent of sclerotization according to larval instar; the second and third instars have relatively long processes (tubercles) on the dorsal, lateral and ventral surfaces, with microspine circles on the terminal portion

SUMMARY LATS2 is a member of the Lats tumour suppressor gene family. The human LATS2 gene is located at chromosome 13q11-12, which has been shown to be a hot spot (67%) for LOH in nonsmall cell lung cancer. Both lats mosaic flies and LATS1 deficient mice spontaneously develop tumours, an observation that is explained by the function of LATS1 in suppressing tumourigenesis by negatively regulating cell proliferation by modulating Cdc2/Cyclin A activity. LATS1 also plays a critical role in maintenance of ploidy through its action on the spindle assembly checkpoint. Initial insights into the function of LATS2 reveals that the protein is involved in the G2/M transition of the cell cycle, whereby it controls the phosphorylation status of Cdc25C. The aim of the present study was to identify LATS2 interacting partners that would provide a more thorough understanding of the molecular pathways in which the protein is involved. The yeast two-hybrid system identified a number of candidate genes that interact with LATS2. Most of the interactions were confirmed biochemically by GST-pull down assays that enabled us to demonstrate that LATS2 is an integral component of the Signalosome complex. The Signalosome is thought to be required for the establishment of functional Cullin-based E3 ubiquitin ligases, the substrate-recognition elements of the ubiquitin-mediated protein proteolytic pathway. The findings that LATS2 also interacts with all of the components of the E3 enzymes allows us to postulate that LATS2 is probably involved in the regulation of this Signalosome-E3 super-complex. In addition, the discovery that LATS2 associates with multiple protein kinases localised at the cellular membrane and in various signalling cascades supports the idea that LATS2 functions as an integrator of signals which allows it to monitor the activity of these pathways and translate these signals through its action on the Signalosome. Furthermore, the observation that a kinase-dead LATS2 mutant arrests at the G2/M phase of the cell cycle, demonstrates that the protein, through the action of its kinase domain, is crucial for progression through the cell cycle, an action in accordance to its proposed role as a regulator of E3 ubiquitin ligases. The findings presented herein provide evidence that LATS2 associates with the Signalosome-E3 ubiquitin ligases super-complex which governs protein stability. Any alteration of the protein would have a strong impact on pathways that modulate cell proliferation, as shown by its implication in tumourigenesis. Le gène humain LATS2 est situé sur le chromosome 13q11-12, une région qui s'est avérée être un point sensible (67%) dans la perte d'hétérozigosité (LOH) notamment pour le cancer du poumon. Le fait que des tumeurs se développent spontanément chez les souris qui sont déficientes pour le gène LATS1 ainsi que dans des cellules mutantes pour LATS chez la Drosophile, est expliqué Par la fonction de LATS1, qui est de supprimer l'apparition de tumeurs en réprimant la prolifération cellulaire à travers sa capacité à réguler l'activité de Cdc2/Cyciine A. LATS1 joue également un rôle important au niveau du maintient de la ploïdie de la cellule, au travers de son action sur les points de contrôle de l'assemblage du fuseau mitotique. Les premières études du gène LATS2 indiquent que la protéine est, par son contrôle des réactions de phosphorylation de la Cdc25C, impliquée dans la transition 021M. Le but de cette étude était d'identifier les protéines qui interagissent avec LATS2, en vue d'obtenir une compréhension plus approfondie des mécanismes moléculaires dans lesquels LATS2 se trouve engagée. Le système de double-hybride chez la levure a permis l'identification d'un grand nombre de gènes qui interagissent avec LATS2. La plupart des interactions ont été confirmées par GST «pull clown», une technique in vitro qui a permis de démontrer que LATS2 est un composant intégral du Signalosome. Ce complexe est supposé réguler l'activité des E3 ubiquitine-rigases, les éléments responsables du recrutement des substrats qui doivent être recyclés par la voie de dégradation ubiquitine-dépendante. Les résultats obtenus indiquent également que LATS2 interagit avec tous les composants des enzymes E3, ce qui nous permet de soumettre l'idée selon laquelle la protéine LATS2 est en fait impliquée dans la régulation du complexe Signalosorne-E3. De plus, la découverte que LATS2 se trouve associée à plusieurs protéines kinases localisées au niveau de la membrane cellulaire, ainsi que dans diverses voies de transduction, confirment l'idée que LATS2 fonctionne en tant que molécule qui intègre les signaux en provenance de ces différentes voies cellulaires. De ce fait, il lui serait possible de coordonner la destruction des protéines au moyen du complexe Signalosome, permettant ainsi de réprimer l'activité des voies de signalisation. En outre, l'introduction d'une mutation dans le domaine kinase de LATS2 résulte en l'arrêt du cycle cellulaire en G2/M, ce qui montre que la protéine, au travers de son domaine kinase, est cruciale pour le bon fonctionnement du cycle cellulaire, ceci en accord avec son rôle proposé comme régulateur des E3 ubiquitine-ligases. Les résultats présentés dans ce manuscrit démontrent que la protéine LATS2 se trouve associée au complexe Signalosome-E3 qui régule la dégradation des protéines. La moindre modification de la protéine engendrerait des répercussions importantes au niveau des voies de transduction qui contrôlent fa prolifération ceilulaire, ce qui atteste du rôle déterminant que joue LAT32 dans la tumorigénèse.

The metasomatism observed in the oceanic and continental lithosphere is generally interpreted to represent a continuous differentiation process forming anhydrous and hydrous veins plus a cryptic enrichment in the surrounding peridotite. In order to constrain the mechanisms of vein formation and potentially clarify the nature and origin of the initial metasomatic agent, we performed a series of high-pressure experiments simulating the liquid line of descent of a basanitic magma differentiating within continental or mature oceanic lithosphere. This series of experiments has been conducted in an end-loaded piston cylinder apparatus starting from an initial hydrous ne-normative basanite at 1.5 GPa and temperature varying between 1,250 and 980°C. Near-pure fractional crystallization process was achieved in a stepwise manner in 30°C temperature steps and starting compositions corresponding to the liquid composition of the previous, higher-temperature glass composition. Liquids evolve progressively from basanite to peralkaline, aluminum-rich compositions without significant SiO2 variation. The resulting cumulates are characterized by an anhydrous clinopyroxene + olivine assemblage at high temperature (1,250-1,160°C), while at lower temperature (1,130-980°C), hydrous cumulates with dominantly amphibole + minor clinopyroxene, spinel, ilmenite, titanomagnetite and apatite (1,130-980°C) are formed. This new data set supports the interpretation that anhydrous and hydrous metasomatic veins could be produced during continuous differentiation processes of primary, hydrous alkaline magmas at high pressure. However, the comparison between the cumulates generated by the fractional crystallization from an initial ne-normative liquid or from hy-normative initial compositions (hawaiite or picrobasalt) indicates that for all hydrous liquids, the different phases formed upon differentiation are mostly similar even though the proportions of hydrous versus anhydrous minerals could vary significantly. This suggests that the formation of amphibole-bearing metasomatic veins observed in the lithospheric mantle could be linked to the differentiation of initial liquids ranging from ne-normative to hy-normative in composition. The present study does not resolve the question whether the metasomatism observed in lithospheric mantle is a precursor or a consequence of alkaline magmatism; however, it confirms that the percolation and differentiation of a liquid produced by a low degree of partial melting of a source similar or slightly more enriched than depleted MORB mantle could generate hydrous metasomatic veins interpreted as a potential source for alkaline magmatism by various authors.

The oxalate-carbonate pathway (OCP) is a biogeochemical process, which has been described in Milicia excelsa tree ecosystems of Africa. This pathway involves biological and geological parameters at different scales: oxalate, as a by-product of photosynthesis, is oxidized by oxalotrophic bacteria leading to a local pH increase, and eventually to carbonate accumulation through time in previously acidic and carbonate-free tropical soils. Former studies have shown that this pedogenic process can potentially lead to the formation of an atmospheric carbon sink. Considering that 80% of plant species are known to produce oxalate, it is reasonable to assume that M. excelsa is not the only tree that can support OCP ecosystems. The search for similar conditions on another continent led us to South America, in an Amazon forest ecosystem (Alto Beni, Bolivia). This area was chosen because of the absence of local inherited carbonate in the bedrock, as well as its expected acidic soil conditions. Eleven tree species and associated soils were tested positive for the presence of carbonate with a more alkaline soil pH close to the tree than at a distance from it. A detailed study of Pentaplaris davidsmithii and Ceiba speciosa trees showed that oxalotrophy impacted soil pH in a similar way to at African sites (at least with 1 pH unit increasing). African and South American sites display similar characteristics regarding the mineralogical assemblage associated with the OCP, except for the absence of weddellite. The amount of carbonate accumulated is 3 to 4 times lower than the values measured in African sites related to M. excelsa ecosystems. Still, these secondary carbonates remain critical for the continental carbon cycle, as they are unexpected in the acidic context of Amazonian soils. Therefore, the present study demonstrates the existence of an active OCP in South America. The three critical components of an operating OCP are the presence of: i) local alkalinization, ii) carbonate accumulations, and iii) oxalotrophic bacteria, which were identified associated to the oxalogenic tree C. speciosa. If the question of a potential carbon sink related to oxalotrophic-oxalogenic ecosystems in the Amazon Basin is still pending, this study highlights the implication of OCP ecosystems on carbon and calcium biogeochemical coupled cycles. As previously mentioned for M. excelsa tree ecosystems in Africa, carbonate accumulations observed in the Bolivian tropical forest could be extrapolated to part or the whole Amazon Basin and might constitute an important reservoir that must be taken into account in the global carbon balance of the Tropics.

Spectacular shallow-level migmatization of ferrogabbroic rocks occurs in a metamorphic contact aureole of a gabbroic pluton of the Tierra Mala massif (TM) on Fuerteventura (Canary Islands). In order to improve our knowledge of the low pressure melting behavior of gabbroic rocks and to constrain the conditions of migmatization of the TM gabbros, we performed partial melting experiments on a natural ferrogabbro, which is assumed as protolith of the migmatites. The experiments were performed in an internally heated pressure vessel (IHPV) at 200 MPa, 930-1150 degreesC at relatively oxidizing conditions. Distinct amounts of water were added to the charge. From 930 to 1000 degreesC, the observed experimental phases are plagioclase (An(60-70)), clinopyroxene, amphibole (titanian magnesiohastingsites), two Fe-Ti oxides, and a basaltic, K-poor melt. Above 1000 degreesC, amphibole is no longer stable. The first melts are very rich in non-native plagioclase (>70 wt.%). This indicates that at the beginning of partial melting plagioclase is the major phase which is consumed to produce melt. In the experiments, plagioclase is stable up to high temperatures (1060 degreesC) showing increasing An content with temperature. This is not compatible with the natural migmatites, in which An-rich plagioclase is absent in the melanosomes, while amphibole is stable. Our results show that the partial melting of the natural rocks cannot be regarded as an ``in-situ'' process that occurred in a closed system. Considerable amounts of alkalis probably transported by water-rich fluids, derived from the mafic pluton underplating the TM gabbro, were necessary to drive the melting reaction out of the stability range of plagioclase. A partial melting experiment with a migmatite gabbro showing typical ``in-situ'' textures as starting material supports this assumption. Crystallization experiments performed at 1000 degreesC on a glass of the fitised ferrogabbro with different water contents added to the charge show that generally high water activities could be achieved (crystallization of amphibole), independently of the bulk water content, even in a system with very low initial bulk water content (0.3 wt.%). Increasing water contents produce plagioclase richer in An, reduces the modal proportion of plagioclase in the crystallizing assemblage and extends the melt fraction. High melt fractions of >30 wt.% could only be observed in systems with high bulk water contents (> - 2 wt.%). This indicates that the migmatites were generated under water-rich conditions (probably water-saturated), since those migmatites, which are characterized as ``in-situ'' formations, show generally high amounts of leucosomes (>30 wt.%). Introduction L'écriture manuelle fluide et automatisée constitue, avec la lecture, les fondements au développement des compétences scolaires. En effet, l'enfant peut développer le langage écrit avec l'acquisition de l'écriture, il a besoin d'une écriture manuelle automatisée lors d'évaluations scolaires écrites. De plus, la sollicitation de l'écriture manuelle augmente au cours de la scolarité, que ce soit au niveau de l'endurance, de la vitesse ou de la qualité. L'acquisition de l'écriture requiert des processus cognitifs, linguistiques et perceptivomoteurs, définis en tant que facteurs internes ou endogènes (Beeson et al., 2003) et résulte d'une démarche d'enseignement et d'un processus d'apprentissage constituant des facteurs externes ou exogènes. Les perturbations de l'acquisition de l'écriture sont nommées de différentes manières dans la littérature scientifique. Les chercheurs anglo-saxons convoquent la notion de faible écriture manuelle (poor handwriting), de troubles grapho-moteurs ou de difficultés d'écriture (Weintraub & Graham, 2000 ; Jongmans, Smits-Engelsman, & Schoemaker, 2003 ; Volman, van Schendel, &Jongmans, 2006) qui se caractérisent par une absence de régularité du tracé et/ ou de l'espace entre les mots, par des lettres ambiguës (Rosenblum, Weiss, & Parush, 2006). Les auteurs francophones, le plus souvent de formation médicale (Gubbay & de Klerk, 1995 ; Mazeau, 2005), utilisent plus fréquemment le diagnostic de dysgraphie qui renvoie à des difficultés d'assemblage de ronds et de traits pour former une lettre perturbant ainsi l'apprentissage de l'écriture (Mazeau, 2005). Selon Mazeau, la dysgraphie fait partie des troubles d'apprentissage. Les conséquences d'une faible écriture manuelle sont multiples. Si l'écriture n'est pas automatisée, l'enfant est placé dans une situation de double tâche nécessitant une attention focalisée à la fois sur l'acte d'écrire et sur le raisonnement nécessaire pour réaliser les exigences d'une tâche scolaire (Berningér et al., 1997). Si l'enfant se concentre sur la formation des lettres et le contrôle des mouvements, le raisonnement nécessaire à l'application de règles de grammaire et d'orthographe est perturbé tout comme la qualité des idées lors d'une composition. L'enfant présentant une écriture lente ne parviendra pas à finaliser son travail dans les situations de tests. Les difficultés d'écriture manuelle constituent un facteur de prédiction des troubles d'apprentissage (Harvey & Henderson, 1997 ; Simner, 1982) et elles sont fréquemment citées parmi les causes de la littératie. Car, comme le relèvent Berninger, Mizokawa et Bragg (1991), l'enfant présentant des difficultés d'écriture manuelle aura tendance à éviter toute activité d'écriture renforçant ainsi l'écart avec ses pairs dans ce domaine. Si ces comportements d'évitement se situent dans la période d'apprentissage de l'écriture, ils perturberont la mémorisation des lettres. En effet, la mémorisation des lettres est meilleure lorsque l'apprentissage se fait en situation d'écriture manuelle qu'en situation de lecture uniquement (Longcamp, Boucard, Guilhodes, & Velay, 2006). Par ailleurs, les épreuves dont la qualité de l'écriture est faible font l'objet d'évaluation moins favorable que celles dont l'écriture est plus facilement lisible. Les enseignants/es seraient alors moins persévérants/es dans leur lecture et plus sévères lors de la notation d'une rédaction. Ils, elles développeraient une faible perception des compétences en composition lorsqu'ils, elles sont confrontés/es à une épreuve dont la qualité est peu fluide et peu lisible (Alston & Taylor, 1987). L'identification des difficultés d'écriture peut se fairé de différentes manières (Kozatiek & Powell, 2002 ; Simons & Thijs, 2006 ). D'une part, l'appréciation de la qualité et de la vitesse d'écriture manuelle peut être subjective avec l'avis de l'enseignant et, d'autre part, objective avec l'utilisation de tests standardisés comportant des critères permettant de mesurer la vitesse et la qualité de l'écriture. Les conditions de passation des évaluations peuvent varier (copie, dictée ou composition) et influencer la vitesse et la qualité de l'écriture. La vitesse est moindre et la taille des lettres est inférieure en situation de composition qu'en situation de copie tandis que la régularité du tracé est plus stable en situation de copie que lors d'une composition. Si le dépistage et l'identification des difficultés d'écriture contribuent à la prévention de risques ultérieurs tels que de faibles compétence en littératie, la compréhension des causes de ces difficultés permettra le développement de moyens de remédiation de ces difficultés. Dans la littérature scientifique traitant de cette problématique, des facteurs endogènes ou exogènes peuvent être identifiés. Les facteurs endogènes regroupent autant la maturation développementale et le genre que les fonctions sensorimotrices telles que les dextérités manuelle et digitale, l'intégration visuomotrice, la visuoperception, l'attention visuelle et les fonctions cognitives. En outre, les troubles du développement tels qu'un trouble du langage, un déficit de l'attention ou un Trouble de l'acquisition de la coordination (TAC) (DSM-IV) (American Psychiatric Association, 2003) peuvent perturber l'acquisition de l'écriture. Les facteurs exogènes correspondent soit aux facteurs environnementaux tels que la position de l'enfant ou l'outil scripteur utilisé, soit aux modalités et à la durée de l'enseignement de l'écriture. En effet, la durée de l'enseignement de l'écriture et les modalités pédagogiques contribuent à marquer les différences interindividuelles pour la qualité et pour la vitesse de l'écriture. Actuellement, l'enseignement de l'écriture est, dans la plupart des programmes scolaires, intégré dans le cadre d'autres cours et ne fait pas l'objet d'un enseignement spécifique. Cette pratique entraîné un auto-apprentissage de la part de l'enfant et, par conséquent, un apprentissage implicite de l'écriture alors que les bénéfices d'un enseignement explicite ont été largement mis en évidence par Willingham et Goedert-Eschmann (1999). En effet, ces auteurs ont montré qu'un enseignement explicite favorise l'acquisition, la performance et le transfert d'apprentissage de manière plus importante que l'apprentissage implicite. Paradoxalement, alors que l'enseignement de l'écriture tend à être délaissé dans les programmes scolaires, les études mettant en évidence l'efficacité de l'enseignement de l'écriture (Berninger et al., 1997 ; Jongmans, Linthorst-Bakker, Westenberg & SmitsEngelsman et al., 2003 ; Schoemaker, Niemeijer, Reynders, & Smits-Engelsman , 2003) sont nombreuses. Leurs résultats montrent que l'enseignement d'une seule catégorie d'écriture (liée ou scripte) est plus efficace que l'enseignement de deux catégories d'écriture scripte en début d'apprentissage et écriture liée dans un second temps. Un enseignement régulier et intensif consacré à l'écriture au début de la scolarité va permettre une acquisition plus rapide de l'écriture et de la lecture (Graham & Weintraub, 1996 ; Denton, Cope & Moser, 2006). Selon Berninger, Abbot, Abbot, Graham et Richards (2002), la lecture et l'écriture devraient faire l'objet d'un enseignement coordonné et harmonisé. L'enseignement de l'écriture favorisant les liens avec les contextes d'utilisation de l'écriture montre une efficacité plus grande que lorsqu'il est déconnecté de son contexte (Denton, Cope, & Moser, 2006). L'enjeu d'une automatisation de l'écriture de qualité est important et relève d'une priorité afin de permettre aux enfants de développer de manière optimale leurs compétences académiques. Lorsque des troubles d'écriture sont constatés, l'identification des causes liées à ces difficultés tout comme une prise en charge spécifique faciliteront l'acquisition de cette compétence fondamentale (Berninger et al., 1997). Dans ces perspectives, cette thèse vise à identifier les facteurs endogènes et les facteurs exogènes intervenant dans l'écriture manuelle, que ce soit au niveau de la qualité ou de la vitesse de l'écriture. Au niveau théorique, elle développe l'étai des connaissances dans le domaine de l'écriture en neuropsychologie, en neurosciences et en sciences du mouvement humain. Elle présente, dans une perspective développementale, les modèles de l'apprentissage de l'écriture ainsi que les étapes d'acquisition de l'écriture tout en considérant les différences liées au genre. Ensuite, la description des difficultés d'écriture manuelle précède les moyens d'évaluation de l'écriture. Un chapitre est consacré aux fonctions perceptivomotrices et cognitives influençant l'écriture. Puis, comme les difficultés d'acquisition de l'écriture manuelle font partie du TAC, ce trouble est développé dans le chapitre 5. Enfin, les facteurs exogènes sont présentés dans le chapitre 6, ils comprennent les conditions environnementales (position de l'enfant, types de papiers, types d'outils scripteurs) ainsi que les dimensions d'un programme d'enseignement de l'écriture manuelle. Les effets des programmes de remédiation ou d'enseignement intensif de l'écriture sont traités en dernière partie du chapitre 6. Cette thèse est composée d'une partie de recherche fondamentale et d'une partie de recherche appliquée. La recherche fondamentale, qui comprend deux étapes d'investigation (Etudes 1 et 2), a pour objectifs d'identifier les facteurs endogènes prédictifs d'une écriture manuelle non performante (dextérités digitale et manuelle, intégration visuomotrice ou visuoperception) et d'investiguer les relations entre la lecture, l'attention visuelle, la mémoire audtive et l'écriture manuelle. De plus, elle déterminera la prévalence du TAC parmi les enfants présentant une faible écriture manuelle. La recherche appliquée comporte deux expérimentations. La première expérience a pour but de mesurer les effets d'un programme d'enseignement de l'écriture introduit en fin de deuxième année primaire visant à permettre aux enfants les plus faibles dans le domaine de l'écriture d'améliorer leurs performances. La seconde expérience analyse les effets d'un programme d'enseignement intensif de l'écriture manuelle qui s'est déroulé au début de la première année de scolarité obligatoire. L'acquisition de l'écriture est complexe tant au niveau du contróle moteur que du codage phonème -graphème ou de l'attention. L'écriture manuelle, en tant que compétence de base dans le développement des acquisitions scolaires, demeure tout au long de la scolarité et de la vie professionnelle, une compétence incontournable malgré le développement des nouvelles technologies. Remplir un formulaire, prendre des notes dans une séance ou à un cours, signer des documents, consigner des notes dans des dossiers, utiliser des écrans tactiles constituent des activités nécessitant une écriture manuelle fonctionnelle.

One hypothesis for the origin of alkaline lavas erupted on oceanic islands and in intracontinental settings is that they represent the melts of amphibole-rich veins in the lithosphere (or melts of their dehydrated equivalents if metasomatized lithosphere is recycled into the convecting mantle). Amphibole-rich veins are interpreted as cumulates produced by crystallization of low-degree melts of the underlying asthenosphere as they ascend through the lithosphere. We present the results of trace-element modelling of the formation and melting of veins formed in this way with the goal of testing this hypothesis and for predicting how variability in the formation and subsequent melting of such cumulates (and adjacent cryptically and modally metasomatized lithospheric peridotite) would be manifested in magmas generated by such a process. Because the high-pressure phase equilibria of hydrous near-solidus melts of garnet lherzolite are poorly constrained and given the likely high variability of the hypothesized accumulation and remelting processes, we used Monte Carlo techniques to estimate how uncertainties in the model parameters (e.g. the compositions of the asthenospheric sources, their trace-element contents, and their degree of melting; the modal proportions of crystallizing phases, including accessory phases, as the asthenospheric partial melts ascend and crystallize in the lithosphere; the amount of metasomatism of the peridotitic country rock; the degree of melting of the cumulates and the amount of melt derived from the metasomatized country rock) propagate through the process and manifest themselves as variability in the trace-element contents and radiogenic isotopic ratios of model vein compositions and erupted alkaline magma compositions. We then compare the results of the models with amphibole observed in lithospheric veins and with oceanic and continental alkaline magmas. While the trace-element patterns of the near-solidus peridotite melts, the initial anhydrous cumulate assemblage (clinopyroxene +/- garnet +/- olivine +/- orthopyroxene), and the modelled coexisting liquids do not match the patterns observed in alkaline lavas, our calculations show that with further crystallization and the appearance of amphibole (and accessory minerals such as rutile, ilmenite, apatite, etc.) the calculated cumulate assemblages have trace-element patterns that closely match those observed in the veins and lavas. These calculated hydrous cumulate assemblages are highly enriched in incompatible trace elements and share many similarities with the trace-element patterns of alkaline basalts observed in oceanic or continental setting such as positive Nb/La, negative Ce/Pb, and similiar slopes of the rare earth elements. By varying the proportions of trapped liquid and thus simulating the cryptic and modal metasomatism observed in peridotite that surrounds these veins, we can model the variations in Ba/Nb, Ce/Pb, and Nb/U ratios that are observed in alkaline basalts. If the isotopic compositions of the initial low-degree peridotite melts are similar to the range observed in mid-ocean ridge basalt, our model calculations produce cumulates that would have isotopic compositions similar to those observed in most alkaline ocean island basalt (OIB) and continental magmas after similar to 0 center dot 15 Gyr. However, to produce alkaline basalts with HIMU isotopic compositions requires much longer residence times (i.e. 1-2 Gyr), consistent with subduction and recycling of metasomatized lithosphere through the mantle. such as a heterogeneous asthenosphere. These modelling results support the interpretation proposed by various researchers that amphibole-bearing veins represent cumulates formed during the differentiation of a volatile-bearing low-degree peridotite melt and that these cumulates are significant components of the sources of alkaline OIB and continental magmas. The results of the forward models provide the potential for detailed tests of this class of hypotheses for the origin of alkaline magmas worldwide and for interpreting major and minor aspects of the geochemical variability of these magmas.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the genotypes of Giardia lamblia from human and animal feces and their epidemiological and clinical characteristics in Argentina, South America. Seventy isolates, 60 from humans (adults and children), eight from dogs and two from cows were processed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. Data corresponding to demographic, socio-cultural and environmental variables and presence/absence of signs/symptoms were collected. The triosephosphate isomerase gene was amplified from 43 (71.66%) of the 60 human fecal samples. Among these, 3/43 (6.98%) were genotype AII and 40/43 (93.02%) were genotype B. Assemblage AII was detected in three children who lived together in a shantytown and they were oligosymptomatic and none had diarrhea. This genotype was not found in animals. Genotype B showed a high prevalence in both adults and children. It was also found in polysymptomatic people, many of whom presented diarrhea. It was also found only in one dog. The present study represents the first contribution to the knowledge of G. lamblia genotypes in Argentina.

The observation of non-random phylogenetic distribution of traits in communities provides evidence for niche-based community assembly. Environment may influence the phylogenetic structure of communities because traits determining how species respond to prevailing conditions can be phylogenetically conserved. In this study, we investigate the variation of butterfly species richness and of phylogenetic - and -diversities along temperature and plant species richness gradients. Our study indicates that butterfly richness is independently positively correlated to temperature and plant species richness in the study area. However, the variation of phylogenetic - and -diversities is only correlated to temperature. The significant phylogenetic clustering at high elevation suggests that cold temperature filters butterfly lineages, leading to communities mostly composed of closely related species adapted to those climatic conditions. These results suggest that in colder and more severe conditions at high elevations deterministic processes and not purely stochastic events drive the assemblage of butterfly communities.
