A method for the determination of Au, Pt and Pd in geological samples is described. Au, Pt and Pd can be separated and concentrated quantitatively by C-410 anion-exchange resin in the condition of 1.5 mol/L HCl with the adsorption rates of 91.2%, 100.0% and 95.7% respectively. No interference exists from coexisting elements except for Ge(IV), Cr(VI),Ti(IV) in inductively coupled plasma-mass spectrometry. The detection limits are 0.27 mug/L, 0.40 mug/L and 0.19 mug/L for Au, Pt and Pd respectively. The results of these elements in standard geological materials are in agreement with certified values with precision of 19.2% RSD for Au (n = 8), 28.1% RSD for Pt (n=8), and 15.6% RSD for Pd (n=8).

The phase transition and transition kinetics of a liquid crystalline copoly(amide-imide) (PAI37), which was synthesized from 70 mol% pyromellitic dianhydride, 30 mol% terephthaloyl chloride, and 1,3-bis[4-(4'-aminophenoxy)cumyl]benzene, was characterized by differential scanning calorimetry, polarized light microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and rheology. PAI37 exhibits a glass transition temperature at 182 degreesC followed by multiple phase transitions. The crystalline phase starts to melt at similar to 220 degreesC and forms smectic C (S-C) phase. The Sc phase transforms into smectic A (S-A) phase when the temperature is above 237 degreesC. The S-C to S-A transition spans a broad temperature range in which the S-A phase vanishes and forms isotropic melt. The WARD fiber pattern of PAI37 pulled from the anisotropic melt revealed an anomalous chain orientation, which was characterized by its layer normal perpendicular to the fiber direction. The transition kinetics for the mesophase and crystalline phase formation was also studied.

The valence of Pr and relationship between bond covalency and T-c in Y1-xPrxBa2Cu3O7 (x = 0-1) have been studied using complex chemical bond theory. The results indicate that the depression of superconductivity in Y1-xPrxBa2Cu3O7 can be reasonably explained by bond covalency difference for the bonds between CuO2 plane and CuO chain. T-c decreases with the decreasing of bond covalency difference and reaches zero when bond covalency difference is zero (or bond covalency in CuO2 exceeds that in CuO chain) at Pr concentration 0.55 and valence +3.30. These are in good agreement with the experiments and meanwhile suggest that the valence of Pr is + 3.30 in Y1-xPrxBa2Cu3O7. The results also indicate that for Pr valence less than +3.15, superconductivity always exists for whatever Pr concentration, whereas for Pr with a valence of +4.0, superconductivity disappears as soon as Pr concentration exceeds 0.19. This supports with the viewpoint that higher valence Pr will contribute more electrons to CuO2 plane, filling the mobile holes responsible for conduction. For PrBa2Cu3O7 with no Ba-site Pr, our calculation suggests that it will be a superconductor if the average valence of Pr is less than +3.15. (C) 1998 Published by Elsevier Science B.V. Gas-phase ion-molecule reactions of buckminsterfullerene (C-60) with the ion systems generated from the self-chemical-ionization of alkyl methyl ethers(CH3OCnH2n+1, n =2 , 3, 4) were studied in the ion source of a mass spectrometer. The adduct cation [C60C2H5O](+) and protonated molecular ion [C60H](+) were observed as the major products, The former was produced by the reactions.of C-60 with the methoxymethyl ion [CH3O = CH2](+) , the latter corresponded to the proton transfer reactions from the protonated alkyl methyl ethers to C60 It is suggested that the [3+2] cycloadduct is the most favorable structure among the probable isomers with special chemical properties, Our investigation provides the guidance for the synthesis of this compound in condensed phase.

A liquid crystalline carbosilane dendrimer with Sc* phase has been synthesized in successive steps, resulting in the formation of defined, unimolecular compound. Twelve biphenyl mesogenic units were attached on its periphery and it has a three dimentional, treelike starburst structure. Its phase behavior was K95S(c)*103Ch118I. Compared.with its biphenyl mesogenic unit , 4-(2'-methylbutyl)-4'-(omega-hydroxyhexyl) azobenzene , which was melted at 128 degrees C and is not a liquid crystal, it is a good liquid crystal material with Sc* phase.

The shear fracture morphology of SCF/PEK-C composite with carbon fibers treated for different times was studied carefully by SEM. The result shows that the adhesion between fiber and matrix was improved and fractured model also changed from interface fracture to brittle fracture with increasing treatment time of carbon fiber. The fracture mechanism was discussed preliminary.

研究了不同活性炭负载的Pd催化剂在NO+CO反应中和单独处理NO时的催化行为.结果表明,Pd的引入可大大提高催化活性,且活性与Pd含量呈顺变关系.不同的载体对催化剂活性有很大影响.在NO+CO反应中,由煤质炭为载体制得的催化剂活性很高,在低于550K时NO即可达到100%转化,而在单独NO时,由山桃核炭制得的催化剂有较高的活性,在低于650K时NO可达到100%转化.催化剂活性的差异与活性炭表面性质有关.当反应体系中有还原物质CO存在时,活性炭作为载体,Pd在其上的分散对活性有重要影响;当体系中没有还原物质时,活性炭作为还原剂参与反应,这时活性炭本身的性质变得十分重要.

Ion/molecule reactions of C-60 with vinyl acetate under chemical ionization conditions have been studied here. Compared with C2H3O+ from acetone, C2H3O+ from vinyl acetate undergoes the reactions more easily, a new heterocycle between C-60 and the studied ion is formed The generation of two sigma-bonds and little angle tensile force of pentatomic ring make it more stable.

A high-temperature, high-pressure extraction technique with toluene and pyridine were employed for the extraction of metallofullerenes Gd@C-2n, A series of Gd@C-2n for 2n from 70 to 96 were effectively extracted by toluene. Gd@C-74 was shown to be a new stable soluble metallofullerene species. Pyridine was found to be more useful for the extraction of Gd@C-82 and Gd-2@C-80 from empty fullerenes and other metallofullerene species.

The electrochemical identification of the urea denaturation of horse heart cytochrome c in bulk solution at the 4,4'-dithiodipyridine-modified gold electrode is reported. The results are similar to the three-step transitions of equilibrium studies (Myer et al., Biochemistry, 19 (1980) 199) of urea denaturation of cytochrome c in bulk solution. This method permits a clear resolution of which of the three steps of urea denaturation is electrochemically related. In addition, by analysing the effects of urea on the structural forms of cytochrome c and on the solution properties, as well as the cyclic voltammetric responses of the protein, the individual forms of the urea denaturation of cytochrome c can be understood. The results reflect the superposition of protein denaturation on the electrode surface and in solution.

In fast atom bombardment, two fullerenols C-60(OH)(x) (x=13-15) and C-60(OH)(x) (x-24-26) gave rise to a group of ions centered at C-118 with intervals of 24 mass units in the high mass region. In contrast, no such ions appeared in the mass spectra of pure C-60, C-70 and other fullerene derivatives such as C-60(C6H5)(10), under the same conditions. It is proposed that the pinacol rearrangement of C-60(OH)(2), resulting from partial rupture of the polyhydroxy molecules, produces C-59 with two carbon atoms bearing an unpaired electron, and that dimerization of this reactive intermediate is responsible for the formation of the predominant product C-118. An intermolecular nC(2) transfer process is used to explain the symmetrical abundance distribution of these product ions in the spectra of fullerenols.

Endohedral metallofullerene Gd@C-2n were synthesized with high-yield using the carbon-arc discharge method of activating the Gd2O3-containing graphite anode in situ and back-burning technique. A series of Gd@C-2n for 2n from 70 to 96 were effectively extracted by toluene at high-temperature and under high-pressure condition. Gd@C-82, Gd@C-74 were considered to be fairly stable and soluble metallofullerene species.

The title compound, dichlorobis{eta(5)-[1-(3-methylbutyl)-cyclohex-1 -yl]cyclopentadienyl}zirconium(IV), [ZrCl2-(C16H25)(2)], has a pseudo-tetrahedral bent-metallocene structure in which the substituted cyclopentadienyl rings are asymmetrically bonded to the central Zr atom, due primarily to the interaction between the large substituents and the Cl atoms. The molecule has local C-2 symmetry with the substituents positioned in a trans arrangement and directed towards the lateral sectors of the bent-metallocene unit.

In this paper, we introduce a very convenient method to produce water soluble C-60 derivatives- fullerols by the reaction of C-60 with potassium in toluene solution, FT-IR, H-1 NMR and FABMS proved the multi-hydroxyl and C-60 cage structures of the products, The properties of unstability to light, heat, basicity of aqueous solution and the solubility in some common polar solvents were also described.

The voltammetric behavior of cytochrome c entrapped in hydrogel membranes at paraffin wax-impregnated spectroscopic graphite electrodes (WISGE) was studied in this paper. A pair of well-defined peaks appeared at +70 mV (vs. Ag/AgCl). Beside these two peaks, another pair of peaks emerged at around +225 mV. Further investigations suggested that at least three states of cytochrome c existed in the membranes due to the special structure of the hydrogel. The native conformation of cytochrome c molecules was stabilized by the hydrophilic environment that was formed by the hydroxyl structure of the membranes and facilitated the cytochrome c electron transfer reaction at +70 mV. The molecules directly adsorbed on the surface of the graphite electrode were responsible for the redox peaks at around +225 mV. Whether the adsorption peaks were detectable or not was related to the thickness of membranes and the pre-retaining time before the formation of membranes.
