Työssä tutkittiin laboratorio-olosuhteissa yhdeksän eri adsorbentin sopivuutta kuparinuuttoliuosten adsorptiopuhdistukseen eli savikäsittelyyn. Tarkoituksena oli poistaa uuttoliuoksesta laimentimen ja reagenssin hapettumis- ja hajoamistuotteita. Adsorbenttien sopivuus uuttoliuosten puhdistukseen määritettiin adsorptio-, kinetiikka- ja faasien selkeytymisaikakokeilla. Tehdyissä kokeissa käytettiin sekä hapetettua synteettistä uuttoliuosta että teollisuudesta saatuja autenttisia kuparinuuttoliuoksia. Uuttoreagenssit olivat hydroksi-oksiimeihin perustuvia. Teollisuudesta saaduista käytetyistä adsorbenteista eluoidun liuoksen kaasugromatografi- ja massaspektrometrianalyysissä ei havaittu selviä merkkejä reagenssin tai laimentimen hajoamistuotteista. Savikäsittely lyhensi faasien selkeytymisaikaa merkittävästi. Bentoniittipohjaisten savien havaittiin soveltuvan parhaiten uuttoliuosten adsorptiopuhdistukseen. IR-analyysin perusteella niiden pinnalle adsorboitui myös eniten karbonyyliryhmiä sisältäviä yhdisteitä. Faasien selkeytymisajan havaittiin huonontuvan itsestään liuosten seistessä savikäsittelyn jälkeen. Noin vuorokauden jälkeen selkeytymisaika tasaantui tasolle, joka oli kuitenkin huomattavasti parempi kuin käsittelemättömällä liuoksella. Savikäsittelyssä käytettävän saven optimimäärä oli noin 1 p-%:a ja sekoitusaika muutamia minuutteja. Savikäsittelyllä ei ollut merkittävää vaikutusta kuparinuuton kinetiikkaan. Työssä tutkittiin laboratorio-olosuhteissa yhdeksän eri adsorbentin sopivuutta kuparinuuttoliuosten adsorptiopuhdistukseen eli savikäsittelyyn. Nitrogen isotope composition (δ15N) in plant organic matter is currently used as a natural tracer of nitrogen acquisition efficiency. However, the δ15N value of whole leaf material does not properly reflect the way in which N is assimilated because isotope fractionations along metabolic reactions may cause substantial differences among leaf compounds. In other words, any change in metabolic composition or allocation pattern may cause undesirable variability in leaf δ15N. Here, we investigated the δ15N in different leaf fractions and individual metabolites from rapeseed (Brassica napus) leaves. We show that there were substantial differences in δ15N between nitrogenous compounds (up to 30 ) and the content in (15N enriched) nitrate had a clear influence on leaf δ15N. Using a simple steady-state model of day metabolism, we suggest that the δ15N value in major amino acids was mostly explained by isotope fractionation associated with isotope effects on enzyme-catalysed reactions in primary nitrogen metabolism. δ15N values were further influenced by light versus dark conditions and the probable occurrence of alternative biosynthetic pathways. We conclude that both biochemical pathways (that fractionate between isotopes) and nitrogen sources (used for amino acid production) should be considered when interpreting the δ15N value of leaf nitrogenous compounds

OBJECTIVES: Invasive mould infections are associated with a high mortality rate and the emergence of MDR moulds is of particular concern. Calcineurin and its chaperone, the heat shock protein 90 (Hsp90), represent an important pathway for fungal virulence that can be targeted at different levels. We investigated the antifungal activity of compounds directly or indirectly targeting the Hsp90-calcineurin axis against different mould species. METHODS: The in vitro antifungal activity of the anticalcineurin drug FK506 (tacrolimus), the Hsp90 inhibitor geldanamycin, the lysine deacetylase inhibitor trichostatin A and the Hsp70 inhibitor pifithrin-μ was assessed by the standard broth dilution method against 62 clinical isolates of Aspergillus spp. and non-Aspergillus moulds (Mucoromycotina, Fusarium spp., Scedosporium spp., Purpureocillium/Paecilomyces spp. and Scopulariopsis spp.) RESULTS: FK506 had variable antifungal activity against different Aspergillus spp. and was particularly active against Mucor spp. Geldanamycin had moderate antifungal activity against Fusarium spp. and Paecilomyces variotii. Importantly, trichostatin A had good activity against the triazole-resistant Aspergillus ustus and the amphotericin B-resistant Aspergillus terreus as well as the MDR Scedosporium prolificans. Moreover, trichostatin A exhibited synergistic interactions with caspofungin against A. ustus and with geldanamycin against Rhizopus spp. for which none of the other agents showed activity. Pifithrin-μ exhibited little antifungal activity. CONCLUSIONS: Targeting the Hsp90-calcineurin axis at different levels resulted in distinct patterns of susceptibility among different fungal species. Lysine deacetylase inhibition may represent a promising novel antifungal strategy against emerging resistant moulds.

Vesistöissä laivojen pintaan tarttuvat eliöt ovat sekä taloudellinen että kosmeettinen ongelma. Kontrolloimattoman eliöiden kiinnittymisen seurauksena aiheutuu kitkaa, joka puolestaan hidastaa laivan nopeutta ja aiheuttaa polttoaineen kulutuksen kasvua. Tavallisesti eliöiden kiinnittymistä ehkäistään kiinnittymisenestomaalien avulla. Niiden toiminta perustuu biosidien liukenemiseen, jolloin veden ja pinnoitteen väliselle rajapinnalle muodostuu korkea biosidipitoisuus, joka estää eliöiden kiinnittymistä pinnalle. Maailmanlaajuinen orgaanisten tinayhdisteiden käyttökielto kiinnittymisen-estomaaleissa tulee voimaan vuoden 2003 alusta. Tällä hetkellä 70 % maailman laivastoista on suojattu orgaanista tinayhdistettä sisältävällä kiinnittymisenestomaalilla. Nyt onkin kasvava tarve kehittää uusia ympäristöystävällisempiä kiinnittymisenesto-pinnoitteita. Todennäköisesti tinayhdisteet tullaan korvaamaan synteettisillä orgaanisilla yhdisteillä käytettyinä yhdessä kuparin kanssa. Työn tarkoituksena oli valmistaa ympäristöystävällisempi tyydyttämätön polyesteripinnoite, joka itsessään ehkäisisi eliöiden kiinnittymistä. Kirjallisuusosassa tutustuttiin markkinoilla oleviin biosideihin, niiden myrkyllisyyteen ja vaikutuksiin ympäristölle sekä muuttuvaan lainsäädäntöön. Työssä tarkasteltiin myös tällä hetkellä markkinoilla olevia pinnoitteita ja niiden toimintamekanismeja sekä myrkyttömiä vaihtoehtopinnoitteita kiinnittymisenestoon. Kokeellinen osa koostui kahdesta osasta. Ensimmäisessä osassa tutkittiin biosidien sopivuutta käytettäväksi yhdessä tyydyttymättömän polyesterin kanssa. Yhteensopivuutta määritettiin applikaatiotesteillä ja pinnoitteen käyttäytymisen perusteella. Toinen vaihe oli selvittää pinnoitteen tehokkuus leväntarttumista vastaan. Tyydyttymätön polyesteri gel coat kiinnittymisenesto-ominaisuuksilla valmistettiin dispergoimalla biosideja tyydyttymättömään polyesterigeeliin. Yhteensopivuustestien tulosten perusteella huomattiin, ettei biosidien lisääminen geeliin vaikuta mainittavasti applikaatio-ominaisuuksien huononemiseen. Brookfield viskositeetin stabiilisuus jopa paranee ja yksi työssä käytetyistä biosideista parantaa pinnoitteen säänkestoominaisuuksia. Tässä työssä ei pystytty määrittämään eri biosidien välisiä eroja tehokkuudessa levää vastaan.

ABSTRACT Healthy eating is associated with the consumption of fruits, which are notable for their beneficial effects on human health. The aim of this study was to evaluate the proximate composition, composition of fibers and components with antioxidant activity in soursops varieties Crioula, Lisa and Morada of physiological maturity (PM) and mature (M). The protein, lipid and moisture contents did not differ between soursop varieties, but the ash contents were higher in the Morada-PM (0.56%±0.03) and the Morada-M (0.82%±0.10) varieties. The Crioula-M variety showed higher levels of total dietary fibre (5.76%±0.12). The Lisa-M variety showed higher levels of insoluble dietary fibre (4.46%±0.00). The Lisa-M variety also showed a higher level of phenolic compounds (284.25 mg gallic acid/100 g of soursop pulp), differing significantly (p <0.05) from the Crioula-PM soursop (154.40 mg of gallic acid/100 g of soursop pulp). Under the DPPH• system, the soursops that showed highest antioxidant activity were the Crioula-M (EC50 of 156.40 g.g DPPH-1) and the Crioula-PM (EC50 of 162.41 g.g DPPH-1), which differed significantly from the Morada soursops. The results suggest that the consumption of soursops is useful for increasing concentrations of bioactive compounds and dietary fibre.

En aquest treball s’ha estudiat el comportament de compostos antimalàrics com els fàrmacs i els polímers en diferents situacions. Una de les barreres que ha estat identificada com a principal obstacle per a una millora de l’eficàcia dels compostos antimalàrics, és la limitació en la quantitat de fàrmac que pot ser encapsulada dins un liposoma, i que depèn de la seva solubilitat en medi aquós. Amb la inspiració de la descripció d’un nou tipus de nanocàpsules amb aplicacions oncològiques capaces d’encapsular grans quantitats de fàrmacs (protocells, Ashley et al., 2011). Els constructes formats per liposomes amb un nucli d’òxid de silici altament porós capaç de contenir el fàrmac, s’anomenen “protocells”, que en comparació als liposomes, tenen una major selectivitat i estabilitat, i permeten alliberar altes concentracions de droga directament al citosol de les cèl·lules cancerígenes. Aquest estudi es basa en la fabricació d’aquests nous nanovectors que continguin fàrmacs antimalàrics i té com a objectiu futur dirigir-los a eritròcits infectats per malària (pRBCs). Una altra part del treball és l’estudi de la distribució del polímer ISA-FITC en Anopheles atroparvus. Sabent que els polímers han estat utilitzats com a transportadors antimalàrics, es va pensar en l’opció d’eliminar el paràsit a dins del mateix mosquit, com una alternativa a tots el estudis realitzats fins ara centrats en les etapes d’infecció de l’hoste. Per aquest motiu es va idear l’experiment pensant en aquest polímer amb la intenció final de veure la seva localització en un mosquit Anopheles lliure del paràsit. OBJECTIUS: Determinació de la capacitat encapsuladora de tres tipus de nanopartícules, fabricades amb el mateix material però amb característiques de mida i càrrega diferents, incubant-les amb cinc fàrmacs antimalàrics. El blau de metilè, la primaquina, la cloroquina, la quinina i la curcumina, cadascun d’ells amb característiques de pH, solubilitat i estructura diferents. Alguns d’ells són fàrmacs que no s’han emprat en altres estudis degut a la seva toxicitat o elevada inespecificitat (la qual es pretén reduir un cop encapsulats en protocells). Construcció de “protocells” un cop determinada la millor nanopartícula encapsuladora i fàrmac candidat i determinació de la concentració de fàrmac que podien contenir, i el ritme d’alliberament d’aquest en PBS (simulant les condicions fisiològiques dels pRBCs). The effects of dark-induced stress on the evolution of the soluble metabolites present in senescent soybean (Glycine max L.) nodules were analysed in vitro using C-13- and P-31-NMR spectroscopy. Sucrose and trehalose were the predominant soluble storage carbons. During dark-induced stress, a decline in sugars and some key glycolytic metabolites was observed. Whereas 84% of the sucrose disappeared, only one-half of the trehalose was utilised. This decline coincides with the depletion of Gln, Asn, Ala and with an accumulation of ureides, which reflect a huge reduction of the N-2 fixation. Concomitantly, phosphodiesters and compounds like P-choline, a good marker of membrane phospholipids hydrolysis and cell autophagy, accumulated in the nodules. An autophagic process was confirmed by the decrease in cell fatty acid content. In addition, a slight increase in unsaturated fatty acids (oleic and linoleic acids) was observed, probably as a response to peroxidation reactions. Electron microscopy analysis revealed that, despite membranes dismantling, most of the bacteroids seem to be structurally intact. Taken together, our results show that the carbohydrate starvation induced in soybean by dark stress triggers a profound metabolic and structural rearrangement in the infected cells of soybean nodule which is representative of symbiotic cessation.

Substances emitted into the atmosphere by human activities in urban and industrial areas cause environmental problems such as air quality degradation, respiratory diseases, climate change, global warming, and stratospheric ozone depletion. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are major air pollutants, emitted largely by industry, transportation and households. Many VOCs are toxic, and some are considered to be carcinogenic, mutagenic, or teratogenic. A wide spectrum of VOCs is readily oxidized photocatalytically. Photocatalytic oxidation (PCO) over titanium dioxide may present a potential alternative to air treatment strategies currently in use, such as adsorption and thermal treatment, due to its advantageous activity under ambient conditions, although higher but still mild temperatures may also be applied. The objective of the present research was to disclose routes of chemical reactions, estimate the kinetics and the sensitivity of gas-phase PCO to reaction conditions in respect of air pollutants containing heteroatoms in their molecules. Deactivation of the photocatalyst and restoration of its activity was also taken under consideration to assess the practical possibility of the application of PCO to the treatment of air polluted with VOCs. UV-irradiated titanium dioxide was selected as a photocatalyst for its chemical inertness, non-toxic character and low cost. In the present work Degussa P25 TiO2 photocatalyst was mostly used. In transient studies platinized TiO2 was also studied. The experimental research into PCO of following VOCs was undertaken: - methyl tert-butyl ether (MTBE) as the basic oxygenated motor fuel additive and, thus, a major non-biodegradable pollutant of groundwater; - tert-butyl alcohol (TBA) as the primary product of MTBE hydrolysis and PCO; - ethyl mercaptan (ethanethiol) as one of the reduced sulphur pungent air pollutants in the pulp-and-paper industry; - methylamine (MA) and dimethylamine (DMA) as the amino compounds often emitted by various industries. The PCO of VOCs was studied using a continuous-flow mode. The PCO of MTBE and TBA was also studied by transient mode, in which carbon dioxide, water, and acetone were identified as the main gas-phase products. The volatile products of thermal catalytic oxidation (TCO) of MTBE included 2-methyl-1-propene (2-MP), carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and water; TBA decomposed to 2-MP and water. Continuous PCO of 4 TBA proceeded faster in humid air than dry air. MTBE oxidation, however, was less sensitive to humidity. The TiO2 catalyst was stable during continuous PCO of MTBE and TBA above 373 K, but gradually lost activity below 373 K; the catalyst could be regenerated by UV irradiation in the absence of gas-phase VOCs. Sulphur dioxide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and water were identified as ultimate products of PCO of ethanethiol. Acetic acid was identified as a photocatalytic oxidation by-product. The limits of ethanethiol concentration and temperature, at which the reactor performance was stable for indefinite time, were established. The apparent reaction kinetics appeared to be independent of the reaction temperature within the studied limits, 373 to 453 K. The catalyst was completely and irreversibly deactivated with ethanethiol TCO. Volatile PCO products of MA included ammonia, nitrogen dioxide, nitrous oxide, carbon dioxide and water. Formamide was observed among DMA PCO products together with others similar to the ones of MA. TCO for both substances resulted in the formation of ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, carbon monoxide, carbon dioxide and water. No deactivation of the photocatalyst during the multiple long-run experiments was observed at the concentrations and temperatures used in the study. PCO of MA was also studied in the aqueous phase. Maximum efficiency was achieved in an alkaline media, where MA exhibited high fugitivity. Two mechanisms of aqueous PCO – decomposition to formate and ammonia, and oxidation of organic nitrogen directly to nitrite - lead ultimately to carbon dioxide, water, ammonia and nitrate: formate and nitrite were observed as intermediates. A part of the ammonia formed in the reaction was oxidized to nitrite and nitrate. This finding helped in better understanding of the gasphase PCO pathways. The PCO kinetic data for VOCs fitted well to the monomolecular Langmuir- Hinshelwood (L-H) model, whereas TCO kinetic behaviour matched the first order process for volatile amines and the L-H model for others. It should be noted that both LH and the first order equations were only the data fit, not the real description of the reaction kinetics. The dependence of the kinetic constants on temperature was established in the form of an Arrhenius equation.

Many strategies for treating diseases require the delivery of drugs into the cell cytoplasm following internalization within endosomal vesicles. Thus, compounds triggered by low pH to disrupt membranes and release endosomal contents into the cytosol are of particular interest. Cationic nanovesicles have attracted considerable interest as effective carriers to improve the delivery of biologically active molecules into and through the skin. In this study, lipid-based nanovesicles containing three different cationic lysine-based surfactants were designed for topical administration. We used representative skin cell lines and in vitro assays to assess whether the cationic compounds modulate the toxic responses of these nanocarriers. The nanovesicles were characterized in both water and cell culture medium. In general, significant agglomeration occurred after 24 h incubation under cell culture conditions. We found different cytotoxic responses among the formulations, which depended on the surfactant,cell line (3T3, HaCaT, and THP-1) and endpoint assayed (MTT, NRU, and LDH). Moreover, no potential phototoxicity was detected in fibroblast or keratinocyte cells, whereas only a slight inflammatory response was induced, as detected by IL-1a and IL-8 production in HaCaT and THP-1 cell lines, respectively. A key finding of our research was that the cationic charge position and the alkyl chain length of the surfactants determine the nanovesicles resulting toxicity. The charge on the a-amino group of lysine increased the depletion of cell metabolic activity, as determined by the MTT assay, while a higher hydrophobicity tends to enhance the toxic responses of the nanovesicles. The insights provided here using different cell lines and assays offer a comprehensive toxicological evaluation of this group of new nanomaterials.

Diplomityön tarkoituksena oli tutkia ja kehittää käyttökohde kaivosteollisuudessa syntyvälle märälle kipsisivuvirralle, joka sisältää metalliepäpuhtauksina alumiinia, rautaa ja mangaania ja jonka määrä on noin 1 000 000 t/a. Kirjallisuuden pohjalta tutkittiin aluksi mahdollisuutta hyödyntää kipsiaines asfaltti- ja sementtiteollisuuden raaka-aineena. Sementin joukkoon lisätään tavallisesti noin 5 p-% kipsiä, mutta harvinaisimpiin sementtilaatuihin sitä voidaan lisätä jopa 30 p-%. Tästä huolimatta vain pieni osa tutkimuksen kohteessa syntyvästä kipsisivuvirrasta voitaisiin hyödyntää tässä sovelluksessa. Lisäksi kipsisivuvirran sisältämät epäpuhtaudet täytyisi poistaa tai saattaa inaktiiviseen muotoon. Myöskään sen kosteuspitoisuus ei saisi olla suuri. Näin ollen tämän kipsisivuvirran hyödyntäminen asfaltti- ja sementtiteollisuuden lisäaineena ei ole mahdollista Seuraavaksi harkittiin kipsin kierrättämistä, jolloin yhtenä vaihtoehtona oli hajottaa kipsi termisesti rikkioksideiksi ja valmistaa niistä rikkihappoa. Taloudellisista syistä hajoamistuotteen on oltava rikkitrioksidia, josta voitaisiin veteen imeyttämällä valmistaa rikkihappoa. Kipsin hajottaminen termovaa´alla osoitti, että kipsi vaatii noin 1400 ºC:n lämpötilan ja haihtuvat komponentit ovat H2O, SO ja SO2, muttei SO3. Alempien oksidien muuttaminen rikkihapoksi vaatisi katalyyttisen hapetuksen, mikä olisi käytännössä liian kallista. Toisena vaihtoehtona kipsin kierrättämiseksi tutkittiin sen biologista pelkistämistä rikkivedyksi ja kalsiumhydroksidilietteeksi. Laboratoriossa Ca(OH)2-lietteestä valmistettiin hiilidioksidin avulla kalsiumkarbonaattia, jolloin päästiin 90 %:n kalsiumhydroksidin konversiossa. Lisäksi alumiinihydroksidi saatiin erotettua kipsilietteestä kokeellisesti hydrosyklonin avulla. Diplomityössä päädyttiin siihen, että sulfaatin biologinen pelkistäminen ja alumiinihydroksidin mekaaninen erotus jatkuvatoimisesti on varteenotettava vaihtoehto kipsisivuvirran hyödyntämiseksi.

The design and synthesis of two Janus-type heterocycles with the capacity to simultaneously recognize guanine and uracyl in G-U mismatched pairs through complementary hydrogen bond pairing is described. Both compounds were conveniently functionalized with a carboxylic function and efficiently attached to a tripeptide sequence by using solid-phase methodologies. Ligands based on the derivatization of such Janus compounds with a small aminoglycoside, neamine, and its guanidinylated analogue have been synthesized, and their interaction with Tau RNA has been investigated by using several biophysical techniques, including UV-monitored melting curves, fluorescence titration experiments, and 1H NMR. The overall results indicated that Janus-neamine/guanidinoneamine showed some preference for the +3 mutated RNA sequence associated with the development of some tauopathies, although preliminary NMR studies have not confirmed binding to G-U pairs. Moreover, a good correlation has been found between the RNA binding affinity of such Janus-containing ligands and their ability to stabilize this secondary structure upon complexation.

Many people regard the concept of hypothesis testing as fundamental to inferential statistics. Various schools of thought, in particular frequentist and Bayesian, have promoted radically different solutions for taking a decision about the plausibility of competing hypotheses. Comprehensive philosophical comparisons about their advantages and drawbacks are widely available and continue to span over large debates in the literature. More recently, controversial discussion was initiated by an editorial decision of a scientific journal [1] to refuse any paper submitted for publication containing null hypothesis testing procedures. Since the large majority of papers published in forensic journals propose the evaluation of statistical evidence based on the so called p-values, it is of interest to expose the discussion of this journal's decision within the forensic science community. This paper aims to provide forensic science researchers with a primer on the main concepts and their implications for making informed methodological choices.

BACKGROUND: The most recommended NRTI combinations as first-line antiretroviral treatment for HIV-1 infection in resource-rich settings are tenofovir/emtricitabine, abacavir/lamivudine, tenofovir/lamivudine and zidovudine/lamivudine. Efficacy studies of these combinations also considering pill numbers, dosing frequencies and ethnicities are rare. METHODS: We included patients starting first-line combination ART (cART) with or switching from first-line cART without treatment failure to tenofovir/emtricitabine, abacavir/lamivudine, tenofovir/lamivudine and zidovudine/lamivudine plus efavirenz or nevirapine. Cox proportional hazards regression was used to investigate the effect of the different NRTI combinations on two primary outcomes: virological failure (VF) and emergence of NRTI resistance. Additionally, we performed a pill burden analysis and adjusted the model for pill number and dosing frequency. RESULTS: Failure events per treated patient for the four NRTI combinations were as follows: 19/1858 (tenofovir/emtricitabine), 9/387 (abacavir/lamivudine), 11/344 (tenofovir/lamivudine) and 45/1244 (zidovudine/lamivudine). Compared with tenofovir/emtricitabine, abacavir/lamivudine had an adjusted HR for having VF of 2.01 (95% CI 0.86-4.55), tenofovir/lamivudine 2.89 (1.22-6.88) and zidovudine/lamivudine 2.28 (1.01-5.14), whereas for the emergence of NRTI resistance abacavir/lamivudine had an HR of 1.17 (0.11-12.2), tenofovir/lamivudine 11.3 (2.34-55.3) and zidovudine/lamivudine 4.02 (0.78-20.7). Differences among regimens disappeared when models were additionally adjusted for pill burden. However, non-white patients compared with white patients and higher pill number per day were associated with increased risks of VF and emergence of NRTI resistance: HR of non-white ethnicity for VF was 2.85 (1.64-4.96) and for NRTI resistance 3.54 (1.20-10.4); HR of pill burden for VF was 1.41 (1.01-1.96) and for NRTI resistance 1.72 (0.97-3.02). CONCLUSIONS: Although VF and emergence of resistance was very low in the population studied, tenofovir/emtricitabine appears to be superior to abacavir/lamivudine, tenofovir/lamivudine and zidovudine/lamivudine. However, it is unclear whether these differences are due to the substances as such or to an association of tenofovir/emtricitabine regimens with lower pill burden.

A method to generate carbonylic compounds from alkynes under mild and neutral conditions, with excellent functional group compatibility and high yields, is described. Herein is described the synthesis of several analogs of the natural product IB-01211 from concatenated azoles, via a biomimetic pathway based on cyclization-oxidation of serine containing peptides combined with the Hantzsch synthesis. The macrocyclization of rigid peptide compounds 1 and 2 to give IB-01211 and its epimer 12b was explored, and the results are compared here to those previously obtained for the macrocyclization of more flexible structures in the syntheses of YM-216391, telomestatin, and IB-01211. Lastly, the preliminary results of anti-tumor activity screening of the synthesized analogs are discussed.
