Mining Events from Multimedia streams, Jon Hare

peaker(s): Jon Hare Organiser: Time: 25/06/2014 11:00-11:50 Location: B32/3077 Abstract The aggregation of items from social media streams, such as Flickr photos and Twitter tweets, into meaningful groups can help users contextualise and effectively consume the torrents of information on the social web. This task is challenging due to the scale of the streams and the inherently multimodal nature of the information being contextualised. In this talk I'll describe some of our recent work on trend and event detection in multimedia data streams. We focus on scalable streaming algorithms that can be applied to multimedia data streams from the web and the social web. The talk will cover two particular aspects of our work: mining Twitter for trending images by detecting near duplicates; and detecting social events in multimedia data with streaming clustering algorithms. I'll will describe in detail our techniques, and explore open questions and areas of potential future work, in both these tasks.

Procesos de diseño y desarrollo de un entorno de formación online y de distribución de materiales multimedia para la unidad de apoyo técnico-pedagógico de Campus Extens y de un material formativo multimedia como curso prototipo.

Ofrecer información corporativa de la USTP. Ofrecer un entorno tecnológico que posibilite el trabajo cooperativo, y la investigación educativa. Hacer accesible desde la red, información y contenidos de aprendizaje. Promover la formación y la autoformación a través de las redes y el uso de herramientas tecnológicas. La muestra son los destinatarios, que son nuevos profesionales del ámbito técnico pedagógico, autores de materiales para Campus Extens, profesorado y tutores, investigadores o profesionales del ámbito de la enseñanza superior. El ámbito de aplicación son las tecnologías de la Información y la Comunicación. Lo que se pretende con el material es disponer de una herramienta de trabajo para la USTP, para seguir desarrollando su función de soporte técnico-pedagógico. Los usuarios a través de la presentación que encontraran en el entorno encontraran información sobre la estructura organizativa de la unidad y áreas y funciones que la componen. El resultado de la estrategia didáctica es el propio entorno, que agrupa unos elementos que se unen de una forma determinada en el tiempo y el espacio en un entorno virtual, con los objetivos de dar información y ofrecer una información flexible y personalizada, sobre nuevas tecnologías aplicadas a la educación. Los instrumentos principales son los mapas de navegación mediante los cuales el usuario accede a la información visual de cada pantalla. Programa de Macromedia, Director 4. Los resultados muestran que los criterios de calidad en los que se basa para la creación de este material son : eficacia, facilidad de uso, versatilidad, autoaprendizaje, posibilita el trabajo cooperativo, adecuación de los contenidos de aprendizaje a los usuarios. Como conclusiones generales podemos decir que el presente entorno es una herramienta de trabajo de la USTP, en el desarrollo de su función como servicio de apoyo técnico y pedagógico a una comunidad universitaria. El entorno pone a disposición de sus usuarios recursos tecnológicos y hace accesible contenidos de aprendizaje. El entorno pretende ser un elemento motivador ofreciendo recursos tecnológicos con la intención de habituar a sus usuarios en el uso de herramientas de trabajo cooperativo para favorecer la investigación y animar a los profesores, tutores, autores, creadores y elaboradores de materiales multimedia aparte de utilizar los recursos que ofrece el entorno, a buscar o crear sus propias herramientas y recursos.

Análisis de la incidencia de la producción de biocombustibles a través de cultivos transgénicos en la seguridad alimentaria. Estudio de caso: Cultivos de soja transgénica en Argentina

La búsqueda de los Estados por mitigar su dependencia energética de las fuentes fósiles, ha traído consigo la búsqueda de energías alternativas, desencadenando en el uso y producción de biocombustibles. A su vez, la producción de estos últimos a través de cultivos transgénicos ha ido cobrando importancia en el escenario internacional. Esta opción se ha considerado como una salida al dilema de utilización de tierras "Biocombustible vs. Alimentos". En este contexto, el caso de Argentina, como uno de los mayores productores de cultivos transgénicos del mundo, entre los cuales se destaca la soja, se analiza en esta investigación por ser importante para determinar cuál es el impacto de los biocombustibles producidos a través de cultivos transgénicos en la seguridad alimentaria de la población.

Work-family conflict, burnout and work engagement among teachers: The moderating effect of job and personal resources

The present study contributes to the literature on the Job Demands-resources model in the italian school context. the aim of this paper is to examine how the interaction between work-family conflict (i.e., a typical job demand) and opportunities to learn and to develop and self-efficacy (i.e., typical job and personal resources, respectively) affect the core dimensions of burnout (exhaustion and depersonalization) and work engagement (vigor and dedication). Hypotheses were tested with a cross-sectional design among 143 teachers of a junior high school in the north of Italy. Results of moderated multiple regression analysis partially supported the hypotheses as the opportunities to learn and to develop buffered against the aversive effects of work-family conflict on depersonalization, whereas self-efficacy moderated the relationship between work-family conflict and vigor. From a practical viewpoint, our findings suggest that opportunities to learn and to develop and self-efficacy are important re- sources that help teachers to reduce the negative effects related to work-family conflict.

Interdisciplinary Pedagogical Experience for Health Human Resources Focused on the Holistic Promotion of Health and the Prevention of the Disease

The object of this experience is to offer the students the opportunity to take part in the construction of a pedagogic strategy centred on the ludic, for the promotion of the integral health and the prevention of the disease with an educational community; directed to supporting and qualifying the well-being so much individually as group. The project is designed to five years, about interdisciplinary character (Speech Therapy, Medicine, Psychology, Nursery, Occupational Therapy), interinstitutional (Universidad del Rosario, Universidad de San Buenaventura y Universidad de Cundinamarca) and intersectorial (Education and Health). It considers the different actors of the educational community and school and the home as propitious scenes for the strengthening potential, beside being the fundamental spaces for the construction of knowledges and learnings concerning the integral health. To achieve the target, one has come constructing from the second semester of 2003, one pedagogic strategy centred on the ludic and the creativity, from which they are planned, they develop and evaluate the actions of promotion of skills, values, behaviors and attitudes in the care of the health and the prevention of disease, orientated to the early, opportune and effective detection of risk factors and problematic of the development that they affect the integral health. The above mentioned strategy raises a so called scene Bienestarópolis: A healthy world for conquering, centred on prominent figures, spaces and elements that alternate between the fantasy and the reality to facilitate the approximation, the interiorización and the appropriation of the integral health. Across this one, the children motivated by the adults enter an imaginary world in that theirs desires, knowledges and attitudes are the axis of his development. Since Vigotsky raises it, in the game the child realizes actions in order to adapt to the world that surrounds it acquiring skills for the learning. The actions of the project have involved 410 children and 25 teachers, of the degrees Zero, The First and The Second of basic primary; 90 parents of family, and an average of 40 students and 8 teachers of the already mentioned disciplines.

The Human Resources Strategy as the Key to Success of Knowledge Management in Companies Implementing New Technologies in the City of Montería

Knowledge management has been one of the topics of greatest interest in the field of organizational studies in recent years. The objective of this research is to analyze the adoptionof knowledge management practices and their relation to human resource policies. The study was carried out in companies operating in the city of Monteria from a quantitative analysis.

La biblioteca multimedia.

El Proyecto se llevó a cabo en el CP Ramón Menéndez Pidal en Torrelavega. Cinco profesores lo llevaron a cabo estableciendo los objetivos: 1. Modernizar la biblioteca y potenciar su utilización. 2. Experimentar materiales didáctivos para cada etapa educativa y área curricular. 3. Familiarizar al alumnado con la utilización del ordenador como medio de consulta. 4. Familiarizar al profesorado con el uso del ordenador como recurso didáctico utilizable en tosas las asignaturas y ámbitos escolares. 5. Sistematizar los procesos pedagógicos y organizativos: Establecer horarios de utilización de la Biblioteca-Aula de Informática y Establecer los apoyos de profesorado necesarios para garantizar la atención del alumnado implicado. 6. Favorecer la coordinación entre los diferentes ciclos y niveles educativos del colegio, por medio de la realización de actividades comunes y llevando a cabo experiencias innovadoras. 7. Extender la experiencia a toda la comunidad educativa, permitiendo el acceso a la Biblioteca Multimedia por parte de los padres y madres de alumnos, y de ex-alumnos. Los programas utilizados para las actividades del proyecto fueron: Enciclopedia del cuerpo humano en 3D de Anaya (un cuerpo masculino y otro femenino en tres dimensiones que se puden rotar, acercar y alejar). Enciclopedia de los dinusarios de Anaya. Mi primera enciclopedia de Anaya. Jesús, una visión a través del arte de Anaya. Enciclopedia y atlas mundial encarta de Microsoft. La isla de la ciencia de Lodisoft y ocho programas más además de dos más que había en el centro. En la evaluación establecen que han conseguido: Inventariado informático de los fondos bibliográficos. Realización de consultas multimedia y utilización didáctica de Internet. Los materiales utilizados fueron: ordenador, adquisición de hardware y un sistema operativo, software.

Resources for an Intersectorial Management of Public Policies: Mobility and Access

The objective of this paper is to integrate mobility as across component of the management of specific public actions. The case of study concerns the public health services in Argentina, and mother’s mobility conditions in the suburban of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area. In terms of methodology, the paper working on the concept of access trying to identify, measure and evaluate the relationship between mobility conditions and maternal health care. Access is weighted according to the realization of health services, and not according to the arrival at the places where they are offers. The result is innovative empirical evidence, useful as an indicator to make more relevant the role of mobility within the public agenda of transport and others specific sectors, asa basic social right behind the access that requires coordinated actions and cross-sectoral approaches.
