The aim of this ex vivo study was to evaluate, by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), the presence of gaps at the interface between filling material and three root-end filling materials. Thirty human upper molars disto-buccal roots were instrumented and filled with gutta-percha and eugenol-based sealer. The apicoectomy was performed 2mm from the apex and retrograde cavities were prepared with ultrasonic points (3mm in deep). The samples were divided into three experimental groups (n=10): Group Iwhite mineral trioxide aggregate (MTA); Group IISuper EBA; and Group IIIPortland cement. The root-end filling materials were inserted into the retocavities using a MTA carrier. After 48h, the roots were transversally sectioned in order to obtain the apical 5mm. Next, each specimen was prepared longitudinally with crescent granulation of abrasives water-wet sandpapers in order to expose the filling and root-end filling materials. Then, the specimens were subjected to slow dehydration with silica gel, mounted onto specific stubs and coated with paladium coverage for SEM analysis of the interface between filling and root-end filling materials. The percentage of gaps at the interfacial area was calculated by using Image Tool 3.0 software. Super EBA presented the higher percentage of gaps (1.5 +/- 0.67%), whereas MTA presented the lowest values (0.33 +/- 0.20%; p=0.0004). Despite the statistical differences observed between Super EBA and MTA, all the root-end filling materials presented great adaptation to the filling material, presenting small amount of gaps. Developmental Dyslexia negatively affects children's reading and writing ability and, in most cases, performance in sensorimotor tasks. These deficits have been associated with structural and functional alterations in the cerebellum and the posterior parietal cortex (PPC). Both neural structures are active during visually guided force control and in the coordination of load force (LF) and grip force (GF) during manipulation tasks. Surprisingly, both phenomena have not been investigated in dyslexic children. Therefore, the aim of this study was to compare dyslexic and non-dyslexic children regarding their visuomotor processing ability and GF-LF coordination during a static manipulation task. Thirteen dyslexic (8-14YO) and 13 age- and sex-matched non-dyslexic (control) children participated in the study. They were asked to grasp a fixed instrumented handle using the tip of all digits and pull the handle upward exerting isometric force to match a ramp-and-hold force profile displayed in a computer monitor. Task performance (i.e., visuomotor coordination) was assessed by RMSE calculated in both ramp and hold phases. GF-LF coordination was assessed by the ratio between GF and LF (GF/LF) calculated at both phases and the maximum value of a cross-correlation function (r(max)) and its respective time lag calculated at ramp phase. The results revealed that the RMSE at both phases was larger in dyslexic than in control children. However, we found that GF/LF, rmax, and time lags were similar between groups. Those findings indicate that dyslexic children have a mild deficit in visuomotor processing but preserved GF-LF coordination. Altogether, these findings suggested that dyslexic children could present mild structural and functional alterations in specific PPC or cerebellum areas that are directly related to visuomotor processing. 2,25Cr-1Mo alloy steels are widely used in petrochemical plant equipments working in high temperature conditions because of their good mechanical proprieties in these conditions. Although, when exposed for a long time at high temperature, in the rage of 343 °C to 593 °C, may present the temper embrittlement phenomenon. The component named stripper of assembly converter of fluid catalytic cracking unit (UFCC) of studied plant is manufactured using this material, which is subject to temper embrittlement. The phenomenon of temper embrittlement refers to progressive lose of toughness, making the material brittle. With embrittlement, equipaments manufactured with this material are under risks to suffer brittle fracture in the cool down and start-up situations of them, which can cause catastrophic failures. By this reason, this research studies presence of temper ebrittlement phenomenon on this material. To verify the toughness of the material is conventionally used charpy V-notch test. However, this test requires the removing of samples of the material to make specimens. This fact becomes critical when talk about structural components of an equipment. So, this research also studies a non-destructive test that can be executes in-situ, known as instrumented indentation, as an alternative detection of the phenomenon at the component stripper, by comparative of the mechanical proprieties obtained by conventional tests in similar samples

With the purpose of provide students with the practical contact with the operation of a thermoelectric plant, the steam plant Laboratory College of Engineering Guaratinguetá was restored, this work was undertaken so that the necessary equipment was specified for this steam plant had their instrumented processes, enabling greater precision of the measurements performed in the tests and also storing your information. The instrumentation of the plant is to approximate the practices carried out in the laboratory with real situations encountered in industrial steam plant, thus collaborating with the most comprehensive training of students and ensuring the safety of operations performed in the laboratory

This report analyses the use of geosynthetics in railways for subgrade reinforcement and separation of the track layers. Cases of instrumented test sections were studied. These test sections were located in Australia (with geocomposite applications), Brazil (with geotextile and geodrid applications) and China (with geotextile and geodrid applications). Railway design methods using geosynthetics applications were analyzed as well. Based on a studied case for implementation of geosynthetics in a German railway, a railway track was simulated with and without the use of geosynthetics, respectively on PLAXIS v.8 and FERROVIA 3.0 softwares. The performance benefits of the geosynthetics applications in railways were, therefore, confirmed, based on the simulation results

The aim of this study was to evaluate the morphology and adhesion of blood components on root surfaces instrumented with piezoelectric ultrasonic Piezon Master Surgery. Methods 10 teeth were used in this study. The teeth had their proximal divided into four areas that received different treatments: Group 1: untreated control Group 2: scaling with manual instrument; Group 3: scaling with ultrasound; Group 4: Scaling with manual instruments and ultrasound. We obtained 20 samples, 10 of which were used to analyze the morphology and the other 10 were used for analysis of adhesion of blood components. The specimens were analyzed by scanning electron microscopy. Photomicrographs were analyzed by the scores of adhesion of blood components and the index of root morphology. The results were statistically by the Kruskall-Wallis and Mann-Whitney with a significance level of 95%. Results The morphological analysis showed that the Group 1 had a surface unchanged in relation to other groups (Group 1 X Group 2 = 0.0025; Group 1 X Group 3 = 0.0003; Group 1 X Group 4 = 0.0003) and Group 2 presented a smoother surface compared to Group 1 and groups instrumented with ultrasound (Group 2 X Group 3 = 0.0025; Group 2 X Group 4 = 0.0025) there were no statistical differences between the Groups 3 and 4. analysis of adhesion of blood components showed that the Groups 2, 3 and 4 had no statistically significant differences between themselves, but more biocompatible surfaces promoted the surface untreated control (Group 1 X Group 2 = 0.02; Group 1 X Group 3 = 0.04; Group 1 X Group 4 = 0.005). Conclusion The instrumentation with piezoelectric ultrasonic promoted an irregular root surface, but did not negatively affect the adhesion of blood components.
