The Laws of Harvard College, 1798

Bound copy of the 1798 College Laws printed by John & Thomas Fleet, in a modern hardcover binding and once owned by Eliphalet Pearson, the Harvard Professor of Hebrew and Oriental Languages from 1786 until 1806. The copy is interleaved with blank pages and includes occasional annotations in the margins.

Notebook with a handwritten copy of the 1734 College laws in English prepared by Harvard undergraduate Joseph Roby and signed by President Edward Holyoke and Fellows Henry Flynt and Nathan Prince on September 12, 1738. The "College Customs" are copied onto the last pages of the notebook.

Draft of law related to the settling of chambers after Commencement, 1742

One-page handwritten draft of a law created by the president and tutors requiring juniors to inform the Faculty of their intent to stay in dormitory rooms following Commencement. The document is undated and unsigned, but appears to be in the hand of President Edward Holyoke, and has a note in shorthand in the left margin. The text is included in College Book IV and was presented at a meeting of the Harvard Corporation on September 6, 1742.

Annotated almanac, 1742

Almanac containing calendar pages with sporadic annotations of unidentified measurements and interleaved pages with short handwritten entries about Winthrop's daily activities, and astronomical and meteorological observations. The entries include personal notes about travel, the weather, and occasional alcohol consumption. There is an entry listing the population and burials and baptisms in Boston (January).

[Letter regarding the taxing of Harvard College real estate] (incomplete draft), [1798]

Two leaves of a draft of a letter in Eliphalet Pearson's hand addressed to "Gentleman,"detailing the Committee of the town of Cambridge's attempts to tax real estate owned the College.
