The Capitol Planning Commission is authorized under Chapter 8A.371—378 of the Code of Iowa. “It shall be the duty of the commission to advise upon the location of statues, fountains and monuments and the placing of any additional buildings on the capitol grounds, the type of architecture and the type of construction of any new buildings to be erected on the state capitol grounds as now encompassed or as subsequently enlarged, and repairs and restoration thereof, and it shall be the duty of the officers, commissions, and councils charged by law with the duty of determining such questions to call upon the commission for such advice. “The commission shall, in cooperation with the director of the department of administrative services, develop and implement within the limits of its appropriation, a five-year modernization program for the capitol complex. “The commission shall annually report to the general assembly its recommendations relating to its duties under this section. Sitôt inventée, la photographie fut exploitée comme outil d'observation et d'archivage des monuments, des paysages, des types humains ou encore des oeuvres d'art. Dans ce cadre, furent fréquemment adoptées des procédures de prise de vue strictes, paraissant à même d'assurer le caractère fiable et exploitable des représentations obtenues. À la période contemporaine, de façon récurrente, la photographie se trouve encore associée à des protocoles fixés au préalable ; ceux-ci sont établis à des fins variées et selon des modalités diversifiées. On peut parler de « protocole » dès lors que le photographe choisit consciemment d'observer lors de la prise de vue un certain nombre de règles (découlant ou non de la technique photographique) dont il fait explicitement un mode opératoire. Cet ouvrage tente d'explorer les causes et les enjeux de cette combinaison récurrente de la photographie avec une procédure préétablie.

Revisió d'una estela iberica, descoberta l'any 1915, motivada per la troballa d'un manuscrit inedit d' A. Romaní (1926) i per la contrastació d'aquest amb les indicacions publicades per J. Oudiol (1916) i J. Danés (1932). La recuperació i relectura d'aquestes vclles fonts permeten precisar millor algunes qüestions, com ellloc on fou localitzada o les vicissituds sofertes per la llosa, matisos no contemplats en l'estudi de J. Maluquer de Motes (1982). Es prossegueix amb una analisi detallada deIs fragments conservats al Museu Episcopal de Vic i, per primera vegada, s'inclou un dibuix directe acompanyat d'una reconstrucció hipotetica del seu aspecte en el moment d'aparició. També es dóna notícia de la localització a Tona d'un segon relleu. Tanquen l'estudi diverses consideracions respecte a la tecnica emprada, la morfologia, el programa iconic, la filiació i la possible cronologia. L'estela mostra lligams directes amb monuments afins ubicats al nord de l'Ebre i, en sentit ampli, amb el grup del Baix Aragó, fet que obliga a reconsiderar la problematica deIs suposats «ausetans de l'Ebre».

The Capitol grounds have been evolving through planned and unplanned actions for more than 150 years. The 1857 Constitutio established Des Moines as the capital. The commissioners appointed to choose a site decided on land donated by Wilson Alexander Scott and Harrison Lyon. Located on the east side of the Des Moines River, on a gently rising hill, the site for the Iowa State Capitol began with fewer than 10 acres. The Old Brick Capitol was built in the center of that 10-acre plot, and the area to the north was used as a public park until work began on the present day Capitol. In 1884, the two-year process of moving from the Old Brick Capitol to the new Capitol began. The state commissioned John Weidenman to design the first formal decoration of the grounds. Weidenman’s plans for the west approach to the Capitol included planting statues, and walkways. The State held some additional land but not necessarily land adjacent to the Capitol. In 1909, legislation was passed, and in 1913, the Thirty-Fifth General Assembly enacted controversial legislation to acquire additional land. A commission was formed to locate a purposed monument honoring the long-serving U.S. Senator William B. Allison. E.L. Masqueray was hired as the architect expert focusing on the selection of a proper site for the proposed Allison Memorial. Masqueray’s plan detailed the placement of buildings and potential monuments. Growth of the Capitol Complex, as known today, began.

Electronic distance measuring instruments (EDMI) are used by surveyors in routine length measurements. The constant and scale factors of the instrument tend to change due to usage, transportation, and aging of crystals. Calibration baselines are established to enable surveyors to check the instruments and determine any changes in the values of constant and scale factors. The National Geodetic Survey (NGS) has developed guidelines for establishing these baselines. In 1981 an EDMI baseline at ISU was established according to NGS guidelines. In October 1982, the NGS measured the distances between monuments. Computer programs for reducing observed distances were developed. Mathematical model and computer programs for determining constant and scale factors were developed. A method was developed to detect any movements of the monuments. Periodic measurements of the baseline were made. No significant movement of the monuments was detected.

La literatura ha estat, històricament, una forma de vivència i de coneixença del territori. En aquest sentit, el projecte Geografia literària dels Països Catalans esdevé una proposta de redescoberta de pobles, ciutats i comarques, de recuperació i fixació en la memòria d’espais, indrets, cases, monuments, edificis patrimonials o llocs mítics que han estat el centre d’interès dels nostres escriptors d’ençà dels trobadors i Ramon Llull fins als nostres dies. Per tot plegat, aquest treball té un triple objectiu: en primer lloc, donar a conèixer la iniciativa Geografia literària dels Països Catalans; en segon lloc, proposar-ne un marc teòric, i, per acabar, analitzar, específicament, alguns dels espais literaris que es localitzen a la comarca d’Osona.
