La gestión del turismo en los programas de innovación rural de Castilla-La Mancha

[ES] Los programas de innovación rural han supuesto un verdadero revulsivo para determinadas regiones europeas, por cuanto han representado una cuantiosa inversión que ha necesitado de una adecuada gestión para dirigir el destino de unos fondos estructurales. En este sentido, el presente trabajo analiza la inversión de estos programas de desarrollo en medidas de apoyo al sector del turismo rural, que han supuesto un importante incremento de la oferta a diversos niveles: aumento de alojamientos rurales, del número de plazas disponibles para turistas, rehabilitación del patrimonio, puesta en valor de elementos históricos y recuperación, en definitiva, del patrimonio histórico, cultural, arquitectónico y natural del mundo rural.

Encouraging them to come to us: changing the way that information is made available to farmers

Recommendations for changes to service provision and fisheries policy in support of poverty alleviation emerged recently in India from a process know as facilitated advocacy (see Case Study SI 2) that helped to negotiate and support a role for poor people and their service providers, to contribute to changes in services and policies. Two of the key recommendations to emerge from farmers and fishers, which were prioritized by Fisheries Departments, were to change the way that information is made available and to simplify procedures for accessing government schemes and bank loans. This case which identifies the origin of these recommendations to change the way that information is made available, shows how different models of the concept have emerged, and follows the development of the One-stop Aqua Shops (OAS) in the eastern Indian states of Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal, that represent a new and vital tier in communications in aquaculture. Facilitated advocacy: supporting farmers to have a voice in policy making and the development of service provision

Listening to people, especially those who are poor, and involving them in policy making and decisions about service delivery processes are logical steps in building better services and improving policies aimed at poverty alleviation. This case describes a facilitated advocacy that helped to negotiate and support a role for poor people who farm and fish, to contribute recommendations for changes in services and policies that impact on their lives. The national Government of India’s Department of Animal Husbandry and Dairying and the Indian Council for Agricultural Research, both in the capital Delhi, have been linking with farmers and fishers and state government officials in the eastern states of Jharkhand, Orissa and West Bengal, in partnership with the STREAM Initiative of the intergovernmental Network of Aquaculture Centers in Asia Pacific and with the support of the UK Government Department for International Development, Natural resources Systems Program supporting farmers to have a voice(13 p.)

Helping ourselves: the role of self-help groups in poverty alleviation through aquaculture

Self-help groups (SHGs) are ways for farmers and fishers, especially those who are poor, to come together and work together. They can be a useful entry point for outsiders, promote a supportive local environment, strengthen voices in decision-making and in negotiations with more powerful forces, increase the effectiveness of local actions, and provide easier access to micro-credit and other resources and services. This case study describes a rural aquaculture development context, in India, the development of SHGs and the concept of a ‘one-stop aqua shop’, set up and run by a federation of self-help groups in Kaipara village, West Bengal (a pilot state along with Jharkhand and Orissa). It outlines testing new ways to share information, as part of a series of revised procedures and institutional arrangements for service delivery recommended by farmers and fishers and prioritized by government, with support from the Department of International Development, London (DFID) Natural Resources Support Programme (NRSP) and the Network of Aquaculture Centres in Asia-Pacific (NACA) to the Support to Regional Aquatic Resources Management (STREAM) Initiative (10 p.)

Otley College: An Online toolkit for tutorials in rural- based FE – meeting new funding needs

As part of an LSIS Regional Response Fund project, Otley College has developed an online toolkit for one-to-one tutorials, based on research undertaken with practitioners and learners. The toolkit has been developed to meet the needs of students and tutors, and attempts to fulfil the requirement for tutorials within a new straightened funding agreement.

Técnicas de Inteligencia Artificial integradas en una aplicación de gestión para una casa rural en JQueryMobile y Protégé Frames.

Este proyecto plantea el reto de realizar una aplicación web para la gestión y control de una casa rural desde dispositivos móviles como smartphones y tabletas, con una interfaz de propietario para gestionar de manera dinámica las diferentes partes de la misma, así como la inclusión de una zona de niños donde se aplicarán tecnologías de Inteligencia Artificial en concreto representación del conocimiento mediante “frames”, donde se permitirá a los usuarios realizar preguntas al sistema para intentar adivinar un árbol que previamente la propietaria de la casa rural habrá establecido. El objetivo no es elaborar un sistema experto, tarea que requeriría muchas más horas que las que corresponden a un proyecto de fin de carrera, sino comprobar la posibilidad de integración de estas herramientas en una aplicación orientada a dispositivos móviles. Se emplearán las funcionalidades de HTML5 para la inclusión de la “zona explorador” donde los niños podrán geo localizar árboles, así como su posterior búsqueda a modo de GPS donde los usuarios podrán ver donde está situado el árbol que desean buscar y su posición actual, la cual se irá actualizando automáticamente.

A livelihoods study of farmers and fishers in Dang Kom Village - Kandal Province

The main objective of this study was to build the capacity of the CFDO and provincial staff to conduct livelihoods studies using a more participatory approach. The livelihoods study team comprised one person from the CFDO, four people from the Kandal Provincial Fisheries Office and two from the Kandal Department of Women's Affairs. Before conducting the field study, the team members participated in a three-day training workshop on how to use various PRA tools and techniques. The study team then spent five days in the village finding out about people’s livelihoods and the resources available to them. [PDF contains 37 pages]
