Vincent Van Gogh (1853-1890) imparted in his art a deep essence of life, and in such a unique way that many would say it is possible to experience it vicariously by looking at his paintings even once. In 10 years, while exerting mental and physical efforts that may well have contributed to his premature death, he produced an impressive number of masterpieces. However, the specific neurological disorder Van Gogh suffered and how this may have influenced his art is still not clear. The combination of his eccentric personality, irascible temper, unstable moods and prolific creativity, makes the understanding of his illness a very complex endeavor and therefore poses a great challenge to those who investigate the relationships between the 'artistic mind', the brain and illness. In fact, most of the diagnoses (nearly 30) proposed for Van Gogh, during the last century, are not based on medical evidence but are ascertainable from analyses of his paintings and biographical data. Although no definitive diagnosis can be made based on such evidence, we conclude that according to DSM-IV criteria and findings extrapolated from his letters, Van Gogh is most likely to have suffered a bipolar disorder, affective or schizoaffective, which caused his death by suicide.

The aim of this article is to analyze accurately the role played by two classical references, Venus and Oedipus, in Tennessee Williams¿s Suddenly Last Summer, in accordance with the usual nature of studies on Classical Tradition ¿Greek and Roman- and focusing in this case on the relationship between literature and mythology. It is thanks to Venus and Oedipus that the playwright succeeds in showing the magnitude of men¿s and women¿s tragedy, which from his point of view is simply that they have failed to see either kindness in the face of God or to feel his loving and fatherly providence.

L'objectiu d'aquest article és mostrar la secular tradició misògina occidental des dels seus orígens a Grècia tot analitzant un text de l'intèrpret al·legoric de la Bíblia Filó d'Alexandria, el De opificio mundi, al qual aplica una lectura fortament platonitzant. L'anàlisi acurada dels capítols dedicats a la creació divina de la dona i les seves conseqüències mostra fins a quin punt no és possible entendre aquest text sense tenir en compte una tradició filosòfica grega ja aleshores secular.

Resumo:
L'objectiu d'aquest article és mostrar com un dramaturg contemporani pensa de bell nou en la imatge platònica de la caverna per parlar del necessari viatge existencial i de formació de l'home, lluny de la protecció que les cavernes de qualsevol tipus, com ara la llar, el jardí familiar o la mateixa família, poden representar. Tot i que des d'una perspectiva en absolut idealista o metafísica, Plató esdevé una vegada més gràcies a R. Sirera i a l'aplicabilitat de les mateixes imatges platòniques una referència clàssica tan útil com ineludible, si es té en compte l'origen platònic de totes les cavernes literàries.
