GOALS: This research evaluated the change in arterial pressure before and after two procedures of dental prophylaxis: Jet system baking soda and conventional prophylaxis and patient's opinion regarding the comfort of each one. MATERIAL AND METHOD: Were selected 32 patients with age between 18 to 30 years old, who need prophylaxis to remove biofilm and were subjected to three different types of treatment: sodium bicarbonate jet (G1), prophylaxis conventional (G2) and placebo (G3) at intervals of one month between them. Patients were divided randomly. Arterial pressure was measured by wrist digital Omron HEM – 6111. The measurements were realized in four times: before the prophylaxis, immediately the end of procedure, 15 and 30 minutes after finished of treatment. Patient comfort was measured by a Visual Analog Scale (VAS) after the end of the treatment. The data were analyzed using the variance test. The results showed that there was statistically significant difference to the comfort of the procedures. RESULTS: There was a statistically significant difference to the comfort of the procedures, and G2 and G3 better than G1. Regarding the variation of arterial pressure there was no statistically significant difference between groups. CONCLUSIONS: The methods of prophylaxis no effect on arterial pressure, but conventional prophylaxis is more comfortable than others treatments

Clinical manifestations of arterial thromboembolism in cats depends on the location of embolization, the severity and duration of occlusion, the functionality of the collateral circulation and the development of complications. In case of location in the terminal abdominal aorta usually presents animal paresis/paralysis, pulses are weak or nonpalpable, pain, cold limbs. Gastrocnemius and tibialis muscles generally have become bulbous, swollen and sore because of ischemic neuromyopathy. The nail beds become pale or very dark (purple to black), and do not bleed when cut. Due to the small number of researches in the area it’s until not possible to determine which medication, dosage and frequency of administration are more suitable for the treatment of arterial thromboembolism in cats. Among the options currently available the cheapest, easiest to administer and which requires no periodic monitoring is the low-dose aspirin

This paper presents a study about the operation of the major system’s components of a linear particle acclerator (Linac). It addresses the components mainly responsible for the formation of the beam, through the inclusion of several block diagrams showing the details of the structure. Among the systems discussed may be mentioned the system modulator, automatic frequency control, dosimetry and auxiliary systems. The main objective is the dissemination of basic technology applied in linear accelerators and create literature about this subject in national language. Despite the high complexity and large number of devices that comprise a linear accelerator, it has been developed an easy to understand text that adresses the most relevant issues to the operation of the linear accelerator from the point of view of electrical engineering

O Ácido Lático é um ácido orgânico que possui uma ampla gama de aplicações nas indústrias farmacêuticas, químicas e de alimentos. Ultimamente ele tem sido considerado promissor como bloco na construção de polímeros biodegradáveis (PLA), os quais podem ser usados na produção de plásticos biodegradáveis como embalagens de alimentos e utensílios plásticos e assim substituir os produtos derivados do petróleo. O Ácido Lático pode ser produzido tanto por síntese química como através da fermentação por micro-organismos. As bactérias que produzem ácido lático são chamadas de bactérias láticas e podem produzir D-(-)-ácido lático puro, L-(+)-ácido lático puro ou uma mistura racêmica dos dois isômeros. A produção de somente um dos isômeros puro é uma grande vantagem de se produzir Ácido Lático por fermentação, uma vez que uma mistura racêmica é produzida via síntese química, além disso, a produção a partir da fermentação é mais econômica. Assim, vários estudos estão sendo feitos com o objetivo de se baratear o processo de fermentação lática e de se aperfeiçoar este processo. Este estudo visa à avaliação da produção de L-(+)-ácido lático por Lactobacillus rhamnosus B103 em reator pela utilização de batelada alimentada, uma vez que este processo tem se mostrado o mais eficiente em diversos estudos. Existem vários tipos de alimentação: batelada alimentada por pulso, batelada alimentada por fluxo constante, batelada alimentada com controle por pH stat. Neste presente estudo foram avaliados além do processo de batelada, vários processos de batelada alimentada, como a batelada alimentada com controle por pH stat, batelada alimentada por pulso e batelada alimentada por fluxo constante. O processo de batelada alimentada por fluxo constante foi no qual se obteve a maior concentração final de ácido lático (149,8 g L-1), mas, a melhor... The area chosen for this study is the island of Trinidade, which is located 1167 km off the Brazilian coast, in parallel Victory at 20 ° 30'S and 29 º 19'W, being the most easterly point of our continent. The isolation of oceanic island of Trinidade leaves no noticeable that she is part of a large submarine volcanic chain oriented east-west lineament known as Vitória- Trindade. Along with the island of Martin Vaz, who is Federal Territory is administered by the Navy of Brazil. Both correspond to Source alkaline volcanic islands. The area of the island of Trinidad has approximately 10 km2. Geologically consisting ankaratritic spills, spills tannbuschiticos, volcanic tuff spills analcite-ankaratrite, phonolite spills, spills nefelinite, pyroclastics, spills grazinite, tinguaitos, olivine-analcitito, calcarenite dunes and wind according to Almeida (1961). The island has its base on the ocean floor, at 5,800 m depth. It is the only place still recognizes preserved volcanic necks and plugs, as well as remnants of a volcano in Brazil. Magmatism occurred here a sodium alkali-silica subsaturated where his wrist was last 50,000 years according to Almeida (1961). It is a place with restricted access due to their distance from the coast, his contribution and hard to be an exclusive area of the Navy. On the island with peaks occur up to 620 meters high, and its rugged mountainous terrain and difficult access to very specific points, as the peak of Desire, peak Fazendinha, Monument and other points on the island. Because of its location far from the coast, its small infrastructure, difficulty of landing and restricted access by sea, the island of Trinidad offers no possibility of tourism, being a military outpost, and scientific basis of great importance, which conduct research in area of marine biology, oceanography, geology and others

This work presents a proposal to replace thetraditional system of traction electric car that usesone electric motor and a mechanical differential, by two electric motors of lower power, controlled byelectronic control low cost. The proposed control isopen loop and uses the technique of Pulse WidthModulation (PWM), discrete and synchronizedaiming to reduce the generation of harmonics. The implementation of two smaller motor one on each wheel-drive distributes the weight of the vehicle, improving the heat exchange of the windings,beyond enable the power components supporting a current of 50% predicted for only one motor . The solution adopted for being open-loop, has a similar behavior to the mechanical differential, where theeffort imposed by the trajectory makes the velocity distribution between the wheels be appropriate tovehicle trajectory

This monograph proposes the implementation of a low cost PID controller utilizing a PIC microcontroller, and its application in a positioning system previously controlled by a dedicated integrated circuit for a positioning system. Applying the closed-loop PID control, the system instability was reduced, and its response was smoother, eliminating vibrations and mechanical wear compared to its response with the dedicated integrated circuit, which has a very limited control action. The actuator of the system is a DC motor, whose speed is controlled by the Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) technique, using a Full-Bridge circuit, allowing the shift of direction of rotation. The utilized microcontroller was the PIC16F684, which has an enhanced PWM module, with its analog converters used as reference and position feedback. The positioning sensor is a multiturn potentiometer coupled to the motor axis by gears. The possibility of programming the PID coefficients in the microcontroller, as well as the adjustment of the sampling rate, allows the implemented system achieving high level of versatility

Due to concerns about rational use of energy, several alternative technologies of power generation appeared, including the conversion of solar energy into electrical energy by photovoltaic panels. In low-income households, the refrigerator represents considerable impact on the electric bill, since it requires constant power given its use in food preservation. It is possible to reduce this share, with the use of an alternative energy source. This work presents a timed switching electronic system, which allows commercial equipment that is not affected by short interruptions in the power supply to use a photovoltaic panel as a source of alternative energy, which usually do not provide energy continuously. Switching is made automatically in case of low incidence of sunlight, and without any form of energy storage. Between each switching, there is a dead time without power supply, therefore preventing the use of synchronizers circuits between the photovoltaic panel and the public power grid. A circuit containing a 80C31 microcontroller is used to control the system’s switching. The photovoltaic panel’s voltage inverter is in H bridge configuration, and is also controlled by the microcontroller through Pulse Width Modulation, which makes use of preprogrammed tables to generate the control signals of the power transistors. Through the use of software simulations, the proposed system was tested, which is capable of supplying intermittent single-phase loads. The simulations indicates that the project developed in this paper can be assembled into a prototype and be tested under real operating conditions, as long as the scaling of components, the characteristics of the photovoltaic panel to be used, and the project involved load are taken into account

This work has main aim of is to propose the synthesis and characterization of nanostructured materials for oxidation of carbohydrates such as glucose, with non-enzymatic catalysis. The proposed pathway of synthesis of metal catalysts is the polyol method and techniques of physical characterization proposals for analysis of prepared catalyst pass through diffraction technique of ray-x (DRX), scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and Energy Dispersive Spectroscopy ray-x (EDX). Technical proposals for the electrochemical characterization of the synthesized catalysts are Cyclic voltammetry (CV) and differential pulse voltammetry (DPV). The prospects of this work are compared by the catalytic activity of the sensor designed with non-enzymatic sensors and biosensors also known in the literature

The representation of the work of memory and the search for identity in The voyage out by Virginia Woolf In The Voyage Out, Virginia Woolf portrays the protagonist by showing her inner thoughts. Strategy that analogically allows the conception of the esthetic work of the author as being close to the Freudian memory supported by life and death drives. The objective of this study is to show how the psychic states, revealed by the protagonist, are articulated with the work of memory and the search for identity in the novel.
