The greater purpose of this research is to develop a comprehensive model of vegetable purchase and consumption. The results will suggest strategies for a meaningful point of connection with consumers other than messages based on health, and offer compelling motivation for sustained vegetable purchase.

Quantification of air emissions, in particular, from free range farms for comparison with conventional farming may demonstrate that free range farming has lower emissions. This finding may support conventional farms that are under pressure due to air quality impacts to more readily convert to free range. Industry will benefit by maintaining/increasing production and the community will benefit from fewer impacts.

Forage budgeting, land condition monitoring and maintaining ground cover residuals are critical management practices for the long term sustainability of the northern grazing industry. The aim of this project is to do a preliminary investigation into industry need, feasibility and willingness to adopt a simple to use hand-held hardware device and compatible, integrated software applications that can be used in the paddock by producers, to assist in land condition monitoring and forage budgeting for better Grazing Land Management and to assist with compliance.

The project will provide enough data for a reliable and robust NIRs. It will more fully develop the in vitro method to enable less costly assessment of grains in the future. It will also provide a reliable assessment for DE which is the most expensive component of pig feed.

Queensland is the only state with Jungle perch. Development and restoration of their fisheries will attract interstate anglers, creating economic benefits. Jungle perch have been successfully spawned on numerous occasions by DEEDI, but larval survival beyond day 6 has been a problem. The larval rearing problem must be overcome to progress restoration and development of the Jungle perch fishery. Key areas requiring investigation are brood stock nutrition, feeding cues and optimal larval feeds. Following successful production of fingerlings, an evaluation of the reintroduction of fingerlings at selected sites is required to determine and the guide success of the stocking program.
