Memo Re: The 70th General Assembly of O.I.V., 1990

A memo from Donald Ziraldo to the Board of Directors of the VQA and C.W.I. in regards to the 70th General Assembly of O.I.V. The memo is dated 24 September, 1990 and discusses conversations with the Director of O.I.V. and Canada (and Quebec's) possible membership. The memo also remarks "there was a noticeable absence of EEC delegates". One delegate was part of the O.I.V. Assembly and there were informal discussions with him in regards to Canada's request for recognition.

Inniskillin Colour Promotional Booklet

A colour printed promotional booklet for Inniskillin winery. The cover features Donald Ziraldo and Karl Kaiser in the vineyard and the inside of booklet describes the wines available and a brief description of the winery locations.

Day Planner - 1984 (select dates)

One page from the 1984 daily planner of Donald Ziraldo, October 18, 1984, the page is filled with point form notes regarding GATT (General Agreement on Tariffs and Trade). One note reads "don't understand how serious". The second date from the planner is October 27th and the notes appear to be expressions/thoughts like "society wants self-gov't" and "Realities = Crossroads in the Labrynth"

Donald Ziraldo's day planner for July and August with another page devoted to "future appointments". The few pages illustrate the numerous travel plans associated with his business. The months of July and August show planned trips to places like: Singapore, Taiwan, Milan etc.

Inniskillins 10 Year Anniversary

An Inniskillin 10 Year Anniversary release that outlines the start of the winery and the partnership of Donald Ziraldo and Karl Kaiser. Also includes a new "vintage chart", a release of a 1978 sparkling wine and a description of the first Icewine produced by the winery.

The Cool Climate, Oenology and Viticulture Institute at Brock University

A program from Brock University which includes an overview of the plan for CCOVI, a list of the courses for each year of the undergraduate program, notes from the advisory committee, budget information, industry funding requests, and a five year financial chart for spending. The program includes photographs of individuals involved with CCOVI, including two photographs featuring Donald Ziraldo. A direct quote from Mr. Ziraldo is also included: "Education and research will build on each other when they come together in the Institute. The 'cool climate' focus will be unique and attract people world-wide".

Niagara College Expansion News

Campus News for Niagara College, August 2002, focusing on the expansion of the Glendale campus for the hospitality and tourism program. The article gives details about the cost of the building, number of students the facility will house and fundraising efforts. Also a photo of the groundbreaking with Donald Ziraldo and several others. The second article on page two is focused on the fundraising efforts for the expansion, specifically the efforts of Donald Ziraldo as the head of the Niagara College Foundation's FutureReady Campaign.

Inniskillin Wines at Macy's New York for Ontario Fine Foods Promotion

A letter from Export Development Officer, Kenneth M. Mueller which is part of a large photo album, dated May 9, 1986. The letter indicates that Mueller put together the album showing the reception at the Trillium Room and the Macy's Marketplace presentations. The promotion was for Ontario fine products and included Inniskillin. The photograph featured from the album shows Donald Ziraldo at his Inniskillin table in the Trillium room talking to patrons of the event.

The Values of Community Curling: A Case Study

This qualitative case study research shows that within the realm of curling, the professionalization of the sport, at the national level, has limited to no effect on the core values of respect, belonging, and giving back that the grassroots level of curling identify as important. Through an interview process with twelve community level curlers, from four separate clubs within the Niagara region, data were collected and analyzed using traditional coding techniques. Utilizing institutional theory, the research shows a growing gap between the national level of curling and the grassroots level. Data also shows that value alterations, at the community level, are based on the changing Canadian environment in regards to legislation (smoking and drinking laws) and social behaviours (the busier Canadian lifestyle) rather than changes at the national level. These findings have a profound effect on how sports are administered in the Canadian sport system

The Van-Guard (poem)

The final verse of the poem reads, "But the van-guard on before you, who you follow as is meet, They're the lads you left behind you With the poppies and the wheat!"
