Review of the literature on reference pricing

This paper reviews the literature on reference pricing (RP) in pharmaceutical markets. The RP strategy for cost containment of expenditure on drugs is analyzed as part of the procurement mechanism. We review the existing literature and the state-of-the-art regarding RP by focusing on its economic effects. In particular, we consider: (1) the institutional context and problem-related factors which appear to underline the need to implement an RP strategy; i.e., its nature, characteristics and the sort of health care problems commonly addressed; (2) how RP operates in practice; that is, how third party-payers (the insurers/buyers) have established the RP systems existing on the international scene (i.e., information methods, monitoring procedures and legislative provisions); (3)the range of effects resulting from particular RP strategies (including effects on choice of appropriate pharmaceuticals, insurer savings, total drug expenditures, prices of referenced and non-referenced products and dynamic efficiency; (4) the market failures which an RP policy is supposed to address and the main advantages and drawbacks which emerge from an analysis of its effects. Results suggest that RP systems achieve better their postulated goals (1) if cost inflation in pharmaceuticals is due to high prices rather than to the excess of prescription rates, (2) when the larger is the existing difference in prices among equivalent drugs, and (3) more important is the actual market for generics.

Situación de stocks de peces demersales en la primavera de 1989: Crucero BIC Humboldt 8911-12 (24 de noviembre - 08 de diciembre 1989)

Describe las acciones que realizó el crucero de evaluación de peces demersales, a bordo del BIC Humboldt entre noviembre y diciembre de 1989, cuya información ha permitido determinar la situación actual del subsistema demersal en lo referente a las condiciones oceanográficas, estructura especiológica, distribuón, concentración, biomasa y estructura poblacional de las diferentes especies, poniéndose especial énfasis en las de mayor abundancia económica, entre las que destaca la merluza.

Describe los principales resultados obtenidos en el Crucero evaluación de recursos pelágicos, efectuado a bordo del BIC/SNP-1 del 14 de noviembre de 1989, entre Chicama y Punta Doña María, constituyendo la segunda prospección planificada dentro del marco del proyecto Evaluación de los recursos: anchoveta, sardina, jurel y caballa, auspiciado por el Instituto del mar del Perú y la Comunidad económica europea.

Prospección pesquera del calamar gigante (dosidicus gigas) a bordo del buque japonés "Shinko Maru 2" (04 de noviembre - 17 de diciembre de 1989)

Presenta los resultados obtenidos durante la prospección efectuada a bordo del buque japonés "Shinko Maru 2" entre el 04 de noviembre y el 17 de diciembre de 1989, cuyo objetivo principal fue evaluar la factibilidad de explotar comercialmente el Dosidicus gigas (ORBIGNY) "calamar gigante" o "pota" en el mar peruano. El área de estudio comprendió desde los 03°30 ' S hasta el Callao (12°00 'S). Se emplearon dos sistemas de captura: con calamareras automáticas y luces de atracción (JIGGING) y otra con redes de deriva (DRIFT NET), llevándose a cabo 32 y 24 operaciones de pesca respectivamente.

Finasteride-related Leydig cell tumour: report of a case and literature review.
