This paper determines the group of continuous invariants corresponding to an inner function circle dot with finitely many singularities on the unit circle T; that is, the continuous mappings g : T -> T such that circle dot o g = circle dot on T. These mappings form a group under composition.

Combining known spectral sequences with a new spectral sequence relating reduced and unreduced slN-homology yields a relations hip between the Homflypt-homology of a knot and its slN-concordance invariants. As an application, some of the slN-concordance invariants are shown to be linearly independent.

The notion of a differential invariant for systems of second-order differential equations on a manifold M with respect to the group of vertical automorphisms of the projection is de?ned and the Chern connection attached to a SODE allows one to determine a basis for second-order differential invariants of a SODE.

Moment invariants have been thoroughly studied and repeatedly proposed as one of the most powerful tools for 2D shape identification. In this paper a set of such descriptors is proposed, being the basis functions discontinuous in a finite number of points. The goal of using discontinuous functions is to avoid the Gibbs phenomenon, and therefore to yield a better approximation capability for discontinuous signals, as images. Moreover, the proposed set of moments allows the definition of rotation invariants, being this the other main design concern. Translation and scale invariance are achieved by means of standard image normalization. Tests are conducted to evaluate the behavior of these descriptors in noisy environments, where images are corrupted with Gaussian noise up to different SNR values. Results are compared to those obtained using Zernike moments, showing that the proposed descriptor has the same performance in image retrieval tasks in noisy environments, but demanding much less computational power for every stage in the query chain.

Capacity is an important numerical invariant of symplectic manifolds. This paper studies when a subset of a symplectic manifold is null, i.e., can be removed without affecting the ambient capacity. After examples of open null sets and codimension-2 non-null sets, geometric techniques are developed to perturb any isotopy of a loop to a hamiltonian flow; it follows that sets of dimension 0 and 1 are null. For isotropic sets of higher dimensions, obstructions to the perturbation are found in homotopy groups of the orthogonal groups.

Quantum mechanics associate to some symplectic manifolds M a quantum model Q(M), which is a Hilbert space. The space Q(M) is the quantum mechanical analogue of the classical phase space M. We discuss here relations between the volume of M and the dimension of the vector space Q(M). Analogues for convex polyhedra are considered.
