Ligand effects in cis-Ru-II(N-N)(2)L-2 species where N-N is a substituted 2,2 '-bisoxazoline and L is monodentate

Starting from previously reported cis-Ru(MeL)(2)Cl-2, where MeL is 4,4,4',4'-tetramethyl-2,2'-bisoxazoline, cis-Ru(MeL)(2)Br-2 (1), cis-Ru( MeL)(2)I-2 (2), cis-Ru(MeL)(2)(NCS)(2) center dot H2O (3), cis-Ru(MeL)(2)(N-3)(2) (4) and cis-[Ru(MeL)(2)(MeCN)(2)](PF6)(2) center dot (CH3)(2)CO (5) are synthesised. The X-ray crystal structures of complexes 1, 2, 3 and 5 have been determined. All the five new complexes have been characterized by FTIR, ESIMS and H-1 NMR. In cyclic voltammetry in acetonitrile at a glassy carbon electrode, the complexes display a quasireversible Ru(II/III) couple in the range 0.32-1.71 V versus NHE. The Ru(II/III) potentials yield a satisfactorily linear correlation with Chatt's ligand constants P-L for the monodantate ligands. From the intercept and by comparing the known situation in Ru(2,2'-bipyridine)(2)L-2, it is concluded that MeL, a non-aromatic diimine, is significantly more pi-acidic than 2,2'-bipyridine. Study of electrochemical behavior of azoles for AISI 430 stainless steel in H(2)SO(4) 1 mol L(-1)

Corrosion is an undesirable process that occurs in metallic materials. Studied was the effect of inhibiting Benzotriazole (BTAH), Benzimidazole (BZM) and Indole in different concentrations-for the stainless steel (SS) AISI 430 in H(2)SO(4) mol The techniques employed this research were: anodic potenciostatic polarisation, electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, optical microscopy and scanning electron microscopy The curves of anodic polarisation showed that BTAH, BZM and Indol act as corrosion inhibitors for 430 SS, at concentrations of 1x10(-3) and 5x10(-4) mol L(-1) but do not inhibit corrosion for concentrations equal to or less than 1x10(-4) mol L(-1). The in-crease of the efficiency in relation to the inhibitory substances studied followed this order: Indol dic polarization curve results were supported by electrochemical impedance spectroscopy, and microscopic analysis.

Rotor Failure Diagnosis of Induction Motors by Wavelet Transform and Fourier Transform in Function of the Load

This paper presents two diagnostic methods for the online detection of broken bars in induction motors with squirrel-cage type rotors. The wavelet representation of a function is a new technique. Wavelet transform of a function is the improved version of Fourier transform. Fourier transform is a powerful tool for analyzing the components of a stationary signal. But it is failed for analyzing the non-stationary signal whereas wavelet transform allows the components of a non-stationary signal to be analyzed. In this paper, our main goal is to find out the advantages of wavelet transform compared to Fourier transform in rotor failure diagnosis of induction motors.

Deficiency in SLC25A1, encoding the mitochondrial citrate carrier, causes combined D-2- and L-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria

The Krebs cycle is of fundamental importance for the generation of the energetic and molecular needs of both prokaryotic and eukaryotic cells. Both enantiomers of metabolite 2-hydroxyglutarate are directly linked to this pivotal biochemical pathway and are found elevated not only in several cancers, but also in different variants of the neurometabolic disease 2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria. Recently we showed that cancer-associated IDH2 germline mutations cause one variant of 2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria. Complementary to these findings, we now report recessive mutations in SLC25A1, the mitochondrial citrate carrier, in 12 out of 12 individuals with combined D-2- and L-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria. Impaired mitochondrial citrate efflux, demonstrated by stable isotope labeling experiments and the absence of SLC25A1 in fibroblasts harboring certain mutations, suggest that SLC25A1 deficiency is pathogenic. Our results identify defects in SLC25A1 as a cause of combined D-2- and L-2-hydroxyglutaric aciduria.

Predominance of the α1D subunit in L-type voltage-gated Ca2+ channels of hair cells in the chicken’s cochlea

The voltage-gated Ca2+ channels that effect tonic release of neurotransmitter from hair cells have unusual pharmacological properties: unlike most presynaptic Ca2+ channels, they are sensitive to dihydropyridines and therefore are L-type. To characterize these Ca2+ channels, we investigated the expression of L-type α1 subunits in hair cells of the chicken’s cochlea. In PCRs with five different pairs of degenerate primers, we always obtained α1D products, but only once an α1C product and never an α1S product. A full-length α1D mRNA sequence was assembled from overlapping PCR products; the predicted amino acid sequence of the α1D subunit was about 90% identical to those of the mammalian α1D subunits. In situ hybridization confirmed that the α1D mRNA is present in hair cells. By using a quantitative PCR assay, we determined that the α1D mRNA is 100–500 times more abundant than the α1C mRNA. We conclude that most, if not all, voltage-gated Ca2+ channels in hair cells contain an α1D subunit. Furthermore, we propose that the α1D subunit plays a hitherto undocumented role at tonic synapses.
