La revista Palaeohispánica, en su número cinco, ha realizado un meritorio y encomiable esfuerzo al acoger en su interior las Actas del IX Coloquio sobre lenguas y culturas paleohispánicas, celebrado en Barcelona los días 20 a 24 de octubre de 2004. Las 1.150 páginas del volumen pueden dar una idea de la complejidad de la tarea, de la que han sido editores J. Velaza Frías, F. Beltrán Lloris, C. Jordán Cólera y B. Díaz Ariño. En la nota editorial que precede al volumen los responsables dejan claras dos satisfacciones, que sin duda alguna compartirán todos aquéllos que se dedican a temas relacionados con la antigua Hispania: la coincidencia del primer lustro de vida de una revista multidisciplinar y las dos décadas alcanzadas por los ya veteranos coloquios, que, con el mismo fin, han venido reuniendo un número creciente de investigadores.

IRENE’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of Iowans through collaboration in practice-based research on questions important to primary care physicians and their patients. IRENE’s purpose is to create and foster a network of research collaboration between the academic medical center and primary care physicians through out the state of Iowa with a particular focus on improving rural health.

Novas cultivares de algodoeiro para Minas Gerais: EPAMIG-4 (Redenção) E EPAMIG-5 (Precoce-1)

São apresentadas duas cultivares de algodoeiro anual (Gossypium hirsutum L.), EPAMIG-4 (Redenção) e EPAMIG-5 (Precoce-1) lançadas pela Empresa de Pesquisa Agropecuária de Minas Gerais (EPAMIG) para o plantio nas regiões algodoeiras do mesmo Estado. Suas características agronômicas e de fibra são descritas em valores absolutos e em comparação com a cultivar-testemunha utilizada. A primeira originou-se de seleção em campo de produção da cultivar IAC-17, e é recomendada para plantio em todo o Estado de Minas Gerais, enquanto a segunda foi originada de seleção sobre a linhagem introduzida "C-25-1-80", e é recomendada para o plantio na região norte de Minas Gerais. As cultivares em questão são altamente produtivas, tanto em condições de sequeiro quanto sob irrigação, e apresentam excelentes características agronômicas e de qualidade de fibra.

This publication presents summarized results that emphasize the implications of ongoing agricultural policy analysis, analysis of the near-term agricultural situation, and discussion of agricultural policies currently under consideration.

Synthesis of a non-peptidic PET tracer designed for α5β1 integrin receptor.

Arginine-glycine-aspartic acid (RGD)-containing peptides have been traditionally used as PET probes to noninvasively image angiogenesis, but recently, small selective molecules for α5 β1 integrin receptor have been developed with promising results. Sixty-one antagonists were screened, and tert-butyl (S)-3-(2-((3R,5S)-1-(3-(1-(2-fluoroethyl)-1H-1,2,3-triazol-4-yl)propanoyl)-5-((pyridin-2-ylamino)methyl)pyrrolidin-3-yloxy)acetamido)-2-(2,4,6-trimethylbenzamido)propanoate (FPMt) was selected for the development of a PET tracer to image the expression of α5 β1 integrin receptors. An alkynyl precursor (PMt) was initially synthesized in six steps, and its radiolabeling was performed according to the azide-alkyne copper(II)-catalyzed Huisgen's cycloaddition by using 1-azido-2-[(18)F]fluoroethane ([(18)F]12). Different reaction conditions between PMt and [(18)F]12 were investigated, but all of them afforded [(18)F]FPMt in 15 min with similar radiochemical yields (80-83%, decay corrected). Overall, the final radiopharmaceutical ([(18)F]FPMt) was obtained after a synthesis time of 60-70 min in 42-44% decay-corrected radiochemical yield.
