Consistency and population sensitivity properties in marriage and Rrommate markets

We consider one-to-one matching markets in which agents can either be matched as pairs or remain single. In these so-called roommate markets agents are consumers and resources at the same time. Klaus (Games Econ Behav 72:172-186, 2011) introduced two new "population sensitivity" properties that capture the effect newcomers have on incumbent agents: competition sensitivity and resource sensitivity. On various roommate market domains (marriage markets, no-odd-rings roommate markets, solvable roommate markets),we characterize the core using either of the population sensitivity properties in addition to weak unanimity and consistency. On the domain of all roommate markets, we obtain two associated impossibility results.

AbstractThis article demonstrates the importance of Angela Carter's translations of Charles Perrault's contes into English and argues for their profound influence on her subsequent literary career. Against feminist critics who rejected fairy tales as conservative and informed by patriarchal structures and values, Carter reclaimed Perrault for feminism by recovering the critical edge and emancipating potential of his Histoires ou contes du temps passé, Avec des Moralités. This essay shows, through a comparative reading of "La Belle au bois dormant" and "The Sleeping Beauty in the Wood," that Carter opposed the worldly "politics of experience" that she found in Perrault to the Disneyfied imagery of the Sleeping Beauty myth and modernized the critique of early marriages already contained in Perrault's Moralités. The subversive power of Carter's work, therefore, is not directed against Perrault but rather toward cultural and commercial appropriations of the fairy tale, which promote a naïve view of marriage.Recommended CitationHennard Dutheil de la Rochère, Martine. On the Source and Rewriting of 1 Corinthians 2.9 in Christian, Jewish and Islamic Traditions (1 Clem 34.8; GosJud 47.10-13; a ḥadīth qudsī)

The article reopens the file of sources, parallels and rewritings of 1 Cor 2.9, a saying that Paul attributes to some written source, when others sources put it into Jesus' mouth (e.g. GosThom 17). A state of research highlights that the hypothesis of an oral source is generally preferred but an accurate study of 1 Clem 34.8, a parallel too often neglected, supports the presence of a written source that existed before 1 Cor 2.9. GosJud 47.10-13 will help to understand the attribution of the saying to Jesus. The last important part of this article studies its parallel in Islamic traditions, a ḥadīth qudsī.

In Europe, Switzerland presents an unusual pattern of marriage with a very high proportion of couples who begin to cohabit without being married, but with a very low proportion of nonmarital births. A lot of couples marry before the conception of the child or during the pregnancy. In this article we focus on the point of view of men vis-agrave-vis the marriage and its meanings. Qualitative investigations show that men strongly desire marriage for several reasons, from their desire to participate in child rearing to the fear of having their paternity denied by Swiss institutions

In the United States civil marriages are entered into either ceremonially, by means of compliance of the parties with state statutory requirements for marriage, or non-ceremonially by the parties satisfying the requirements of a common law marriage. A marriage contracted validly, whether by complying with statutory requirements or the requirements of a common law marriage, confers the identical rights, responsibilities, and privileges on the parties. The purpose of this Legislative Guide is to provide an overview of marriage as a civil contract imbued with a public interest, and of common law marriage and statutory marriage provisions. L'Evangile du Sauveur, He 5,7 et la prière de supplication: en quête d'autres traditions sur la prière au Mont des Oliviers

L'Évangile du Sauveur 45-59 rapporte une interprétation peu connue de la prière de Jésus au Mont des Oliviers, comme prière d'intercession pour le peuple d'Israël. Cette interprètation est connue d'Origène, Jérôme et Epiphane. Cet article souhaite montrer que la prise en compte d'une telle tradition permet de reprendre sur une base nouvelle la question de la signification des prières et supplications, avec grand cri et larmes d'He 5,7. En amont de ces deux passages se tient en effet le topos d'une intense prière de supplication, efficace et faisant place aux motions. Evoquée par Justin Martyr et Origène comme d'origine hébraïque, cette prière reçoit dans le cadre du judaïsme hellénistique une tournure caractéristique, quand elle y est associée à la terminologie grecque du suppliant : elle témoigne alors d'un point de contact entre cultures juive et hellénistique. La conclusion souligne que l'Evangile du Sauveur est vecteur à la fois de la mémoire et de l'oubli culturels de la prière de supplication évoquée en He 5,7.
