The Web 2.0 Development Survival Guide

Building software for Web 2.0 and the Social Media world is non-trivial. It requires understanding how to create infrastructure that will survive at Web scale, meaning that it may have to deal with tens of millions of individual items of data, and cope with hits from hundreds of thousands of users every minute. It also requires you to build tools that will be part of a much larger ecosystem of software and application families. In this lecture we will look at how traditional relational database systems have tried to cope with the scale of Web 2.0, and explore the NoSQL movement that seeks to simplify data-storage and create ultra-swift data systems at the expense of immediate consistency. We will also look at the range of APIs, libraries and interoperability standards that are trying to make sense of the Social Media world, and ask what trends we might be seeing emerge.

Toward 2^W beyond Web 2.0

From its inception as a global hypertext system, the Web has evolved into a universal platform for deploying loosely coupled distributed applications. 2^W is a result of the exponentially growing Web building on itself to move from a Web of content to a Web of applications.

L'Avaluació de les competències transversals dels estudiants de mestre de la UB mitjançant un entorn basat en la web 2.0

Una forma de mostrar les competències (i d’avaluar-ne la seva progressió) que permetés una continuïtat i un procés amb sentit, tant pels alumnes com per als tutors, era a partir de la creació d’uns blocs, en els que, de forma setmanal, els alumnes aportessin les seves experiències i els seves reflexions, i a partir dels quals els tutors poguessin valorar la progressió de l’alumnat, prenent com a referència les competències. La utilización de herramientas web 2.0 en la enseñanza universitaria: experiencias en la upv/ehu

Una de las competencias básicas en la formación de las maestras y maestros es el tratamiento de la información y la competencia digital. Esta comunicación muestra el desarrollo de una metodología de enseñanza-aprendizaje aplicada con los estudiantes de las titulaciones de Maestro en las distintas especialidades, que les permite desarrollar las competencias específicas de las asignaturas junto con la competencia digital correspondiente a la categoría de competencias básicas o transversales. Esta metodología se caracteriza básicamente por la utilización de herramientas Web 2.0, accesibles y gratuitas.

A web 2.0 user interface for wide-area resource monitoring

Resource monitoring in distributed systems is required to understand the 'health' of the overall system and to help identify particular problems, such as dysfunctional hardware or faulty system or application software. Monitoring systems such as GridRM provide the ability to connect to any number of different types of monitoring agents and provide different views of the system, based on a client's particular preferences. Web 2.0 technologies, and in particular 'mashups', are emerging as a promising technique for rapidly constructing rich user interfaces, that combine and present data in intuitive ways. This paper describes a Web 2.0 user interface that was created to expose resource data harvested by the GridRM resource monitoring system.

The objective of this study is a explanation about the action possibilities of the Public Relations professional as a manager of communication between the musical celebrity and his publics. For this purpose, a bibliographical research was made about Internet question like his history, the evolution of Web 2.0 and even about different kinds of virtualization, introducing with interactivity. Other researches was been made like social culture topics and even the studies of Public Relations actions in the artistic scene, acting like a manager of different publics relationships in the virtual contacts. A study case with the virtual communication tools employed in the career of Hugo e Tiago, one of the country artists in Brazil, is also in this studies. Otherwise, the study explains about the different ways of Public Relations actions, his upgrades along with the new communication tools and his new types of making relations with more and more different publics. Working with new strategies and keeping his objectives in the organization and public relationship, Public Relations brands a new vision to this type of communication professional, who becomes even more important in the actual organizations scenario

A formação de professores e o uso pedagógico da Web 2.0: a visão de estudantes de licenciatura

The aim of this paper is to discuss the importance of training teachers to use Web 2.0 in the classroom. Its intention was to fi nd out whether students are familiar with the main Web 2.0 resources and know how to exploit their potential in the development of teaching activities. In addition to the literature review, we developed a fi eld exploratory-descriptive research. The research was held in a private university located in the city of Bauru (São Paulo State, Brazil). We selected 213 students enrolled in “Supervised Training III” course, which is part of the teacher training curriculum available for students in the second year of undergraduate course. Results concluded that the students surveyed have access to computers and the Internet, are relatively skilled in handling the available tools and recognize the importance of including them in the teaching and learning process. The students demonstrate diffi culty using the web in a didactic manner, particularly the Web 2.0, which involves a focus on users and collaboration. Therefore, the article points to the need to rethink teacher training courses in order to include practical activities aimed at the use of technology as a teaching resource.

Folkcomunicación ciudadana a partir de la web 2.0 y de la movilidad

The social media are increasingly present in the lives of citizens, especially when the intention is to share views and information among its communities. However, that is something that leaves the control of citizens near the cluster communication, and reinforce construction of public opinion. This paper presents, from a conceptual discussion and case study grounds to believe that contemporary citizens are the true owners of the fourth estate.
