This thesis examined the delay causes of Malaysian public sector projects. Using a systematic approach, the researcher identified the main delay factors and categorised them into pathogens. The pathogens were matched with beneficial Supply Chain Management (SCM) tools and developed into a holistic SCM framework to facilitate improvements in Malaysian public sector projects. The researcher concluded that SCM is the potential saviour for the delay dilemma and that it is necessary for the Malaysian government to initiate the revolutionary practice.

The Distributed Network Protocol v3.0 (DNP3) is one of the most widely used protocols, to control national infrastructure. Widely used interactive packet manipulation tools, such as Scapy, have not yet been augmented to parse and create DNP3 frames (Biondi 2014). In this paper we extend Scapy to include DNP3, thus allowing us to perform attacks on DNP3 in real-time. Our contribution builds on East et al. (2009), who proposed a range of possible attacks on DNP3. We implement several of these attacks to validate our DNP3 extension to Scapy, then executed the attacks on real world equipment. We present our results, showing that many of these theoretical attacks would be unsuccessful in an Ethernet-based network.

Industrial control systems (ICS) have been moving from dedicated communications to switched and routed corporate networks, making it probable that these devices are being exposed to the Internet. Many ICS have been designed with poor or little security features, making them vulnerable to potential attack. Recently, several tools have been developed that can scan the internet, including ZMap, Masscan and Shodan. However, little in-depth analysis has been done to compare these Internet-wide scanning techniques, and few Internet-wide scans have been conducted targeting ICS and protocols. In this paper we present a Taxonomy of Internet-wide scanning with a comparison of three popular network scanning tools, and a framework for conducting Internet-wide scans.

Purpose This paper aims to conduct a systematic review of the literature on supply chain collaboration published over a 10-year period from 2005 to 2014. It explores the nature and extent of research undertaken to identify key themes emerging in the field and gaps that need to be addressed. Design/methodology/approach The authors review a sample of 207 articles from 69 journals, after using an iterative cycle of defining appropriate search keywords, searching the literature and conducting the analysis. Findings Key themes include the meaning of collaboration; considerations for supply chain collaboration theory; emerging areas in collaboration for sustainability, technology-enabled supply chains and humanitarian supply chains; and the need for a more holistic approach, multi-tier perspectives and research into B2C collaborations. Research limitations/implications The paper provides discussion and scope for future research into the area which would contribute to the field tremendously. Originality/value There have been very few reviews in the past on supply chain collaboration, and this is one of the first extensive reviews conducted to address how well the body of knowledge on supply chain collaboration corresponds with our contemporary society.

Background Tarsal tunnel syndrome is classified as a focal compressive neuropathy of the posterior tibial nerve or one of its associated branches individually or collectively. The tunnel courses deep to fascia, the flexor retinaculum and within the abductor hallucis muscle of the foot/ankle. The condition is rare and regularly under-diagnosed leading to a range of symptoms affecting the plantar margins of the foot. There are many intervention strategies for treating tarsal tunnel syndrome with limited robust evidence to guide the clinical management of this condition. The role of conservative versus surgical interventions at various stages of the disease process remains unclear, and there is a need for a structured, step-wise approach in treating patients with this syndrome based on derived empirical evidence. This narrative review attempts to scrutinize the literature to date by clarifying initial presentation, investigations and definitive treatment for the purpose of assisting future informed clinical decision and prospective research endeavours. Process The literature searches that have been incorporated in compiling a rigorous review of this condition have included: the Cochrane Neuromuscular Group's Specialized Register (Cochrane Library 2013), the databases of EMBASE, AMED, MEDLINE, CINAHL, Physiotherapy evidence database (PEDRO), Biomed Central, Science Direct and Trip Database (1972 to the present). Reference listings of located articles were also searched and scrutinized. Authors and experts within the field of lower-limb orthopaedics were contacted to discuss applicable data. Subject-specific criteria searches utilizing the following key terms were performed across all databases: tarsal tunnel syndrome, tibial neuralgia, compression neuropathy syndromes, tibial nerve impingement, tarsal tunnel neuropathy, entrapment tibial nerve, posterior tibial neuropathy. These search strategies were modified with differing databases, adopting specific sensitivity-searching tools and functions unique to each. This search strategy identified 88 journal articles of relevance for this narrative literature review. Findings This literature review has appraised the clinical significance of tarsal tunnel syndrome, whilst assessing varied management interventions (non-surgical and surgical) for the treatment of this condition in both adults and children. According to our review, there is limited high-level robust evidence to guide and refine the clinical management of tarsal tunnel syndrome. Requirements for small-scaled randomized controlled trials in groups with homogenous aetiology are needed to analyse the effectiveness of specific treatment modalities. Conclusions It is necessary that further research endeavours be pursued for the clinical understanding, assessment and treatment of tarsal tunnel syndrome. Accordingly, a structured approach to managing patients who have been correctly diagnosed with this condition should be formulated on the basis of empirical evidence where possible.

Nonconventional heptacoordination in combination with efficient magnetic exchange coupling is shown to yield a 1-D heteronuclear {(FeNbIV)-Nb-II} compound with remarkable magnetic features when compared to other Fe(II)-based single chain magnets (SCM). Cyano-bridged heterometallic {3d-4d} and {3d-5d} chains are formed upon assembling Fe(II) bearing a pentadentate macrocycle as the blocking ligand with octacyano metallates, [M(CN)(8)](4-) (M = Nb-IV, Mo-IV, W-IV.) X-ray diffraction (single-crystal and powder) measurements reveal that the [{(H2O)Fe(L-1)}{M(CN)(8)}{Fe(L-1)}](infinity) architectures consist of isomorphous 1-D polymeric structures based on the alternation of {Fe(L-1)}(2+) and {M(CN)(8)}(4-) units (L-1 stands for the pentadentate macrocycle). Analysis of the magnetic susceptibility behavior revealed cyano-bridged {Fe-Nb} exchange interaction to be antiferromagnetic with J = -20 cm(-1) deduced from fitting an Ising model taking into account the noncollinear spin arrangement. For this ferrimagnetic chain a slow relaxation of its magnetization is observed at low temperature revealing a SCM behavior with Delta/k(B) = 74 K and tau(0) = 4.6 x 10(-11) s. The M versus H behavior exhibits a hysteresis loop with a coercive field of 4 kOe at 1 K and reveals at 380 mK magnetic avalanche processes, i.e., abrupt reversals in magnetization as H is varied. The origin of these characteristics is attributed to the combination of efficient {Fe-Nb} exchange interaction and significant anisotropy of the {Fe(L-1)) unit. High field EPR and magnetization experiments have revealed for the parent compound [Fe(L-1)(H2O)(2)]Cl-2 a negative zero field splitting parameter of D approximate to -17 cm(-1). The crystal structure, magnetic behavior, and Mossbauer data for [Fe(L-1)(H2O)(2)]Cl-2 are also reported.

Polyaniline/ZnFe2O4 nanocomposites were synthesized by a simple and inexpensive one-step in situ polymerization method in the presence of ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles. The structural, morphological, and electrical properties of the samples were characterized by wide angle X-ray diffraction (WAXD), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). WAXD and SEM revealed the formation of polyaniline/ZnFe2O4 nanocomposites. Infrared spectroscopy indicated that there was some interaction between the ZnFe2O4 nanoparticles and polyaniline. The dc electrical conductivity measurements were carried in the temperature range of 80 to 300 K. With increase in the doping concentration of ZnFe2O4, the conductivity of the nanocomposites found to be decreasing from 5.15 to 0.92 Scm(-1) and the temperature dependent resistivity follows ln rho(T) similar to T-1/2 behavior. The nanocomposites (80 wt % of ZnFe2O4) show a more negative magnetoresistance compared with that of pure polyaniline (PANI). These results suggest that the interaction between the polymer matrix PANI and zinc nanoparticles take place in these nanocomposites. (C) 2011 Wiley Periodicals, Inc. Lithium phosphorus oxynitride (LiPON), the widely used solid electrolyte for thin film microbatteries, is not compatible with the ambient humid temperatures. The reasons for reduction in ionic conductivity of LiPON thin films from 2.8 x 10(-6) Scm(-1) to 9.9 x 10(-10) Scm(-1) when exposed to air are analyzed with the aid of AC impedance measurements, SEM, XPS and stylus profilometry. Initially, particulate-free film surfaces obtained soon after rf sputter deposition in N-2 ambient conditions becomes covered with microstructures, forming pores in the film when exposed to air. LiPON films are deposited on Ti coated silicon in addition to bare silicon, ruling out the possibility of stress-related rupturing from the LiPON/Si interface. The reduction of nitrogen, phosphorus, and increased presence of lithium, oxygen and carbon over the film surface lowers the ionic conductivity of LiPON films when exposed to air. Lithium phosphorus oxynitride (LiPON) thin films as solid electrolytes were prepared by reactive radio frequency (rf) magnetron sputtering from Li3PO4 powder compact target. High deposition rates and ease of manufacturing powder target compared with conventional ceramic Li3PO4 targets offer flexibility in handling and reduce the cost associated. Rf power density varied from 1.7 Wcm(-2) to 3 Wcm(-2) and N-2 flow from 10 to 30 sccm for a fixed substrate to target distance of 4 cm for best ionic conductivity. The surface chemical analysis done by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy showed incorporation of nitrogen into the film as both triply, NE and doubly. Nd coordinated form. With increased presence of NE, ionic conductivity of LiPON was found to be increasing. The electrochemical impedance spectroscopy of LiPON films confirmed an ionic conductivity of 1.1 x 10(-6) Scm(-1) for optimum rf power and N-2 flow conditions. (C) 2011 Elsevier B.V. Amorphous conducting carbon films are prepared by plasma assisted chemical vapour deposition and their d.c. conductivity (similar to 100 Scm(-1)) is studied from 300K down to 4.2K. The films were irradiated by high energy ion beam(I+13, 170 MeV) with a dose of 10(13) ions/cm(2). As a result a marked decrease in conductivity by two to three orders in magnitude was observed. The structural changes and the defects in the films caused by ion irradiation are studied using photoluminescence, persistent photoconductivity, and ESR spectroscopy.

The preference for GarrattBraverman (GB) over MyersSaito (MS) and Schmittel (SCM) cyclizations has recently been demonstrated in sulfones capable of undergoing all three of the processes. As the GB cyclization is a self-quenching process, there is a need to change the selectivity to the non-self-quenching MS or SCM pathway so as to enhance the DNA-cleaving efficiency that operates through the radical-mediated process. Herein we report a conformational constraint-based strategy developed by using computations (M06-2X/6-31+G*) to switch the selectivity from GB to MS/SCM pathway which also results in greater DNA-cleavage activity. The preference for GB could be brought back by easing the constraint with the help of spacers.

Systematic investigation on synergetic effects of geometry, length, denticity, and asymmetry of donors was performed through the formation of a series of uncommon Pd-II aggregates by employing the donor in a multicomponent self-assembly of a cis-blocked 90 degrees Pd-II acceptor and a tetratopic donor. Some of these assemblies represent the first examples of these types of structures, and their formation is not anticipated by only taking the geometry of the donor and the acceptor building units into account. Analysis of the crystal packing of the X-ray structure revealed several H bonds between the counteranions (NO3-) and water molecules (OHON). Moreover, H-bonded 3D-networks of water are present in the molecular pockets, which show water-adsorption properties with some variation in water affinity. Interestingly, these complexes exhibit proton conductivity (1.87x10(-5)-6.52x10(-4)Scm(-1)) at 296K and low relative humidity (ca. 46%) with activation energies of 0.29-0.46eV. Moreover, the conductivities further increase with the enhancement of humidity. The ability of these assemblies to exhibit proton-conducting properties under low-humidity conditions makes these materials highly appealing as electrolytes in batteries and in fuel-cell applications.
Component Selection in the Self-Assembly of Palladium(II) Nanocages and Cage-to-Cage Transformations
Resumo:
Dynamic supramolecular systems involving a tetratopic palladium(II) acceptor and three different pyridine-and imidazole-based donors have been used for self-selection by a synergistic effect of morphological information and coordination ability of ligands through specific coordination interactions. Three different cages were first synthesized by two-component self-assembly of individual donor and acceptor. When all four components were allowed to interact in a reaction mixture, only one out of three cages was isolated. The preferential binding affinity towards a particular partner was also established by transforming a non-preferred cage into a preferred cage by interaction with the appropriate ligand. Computational studies further supported the fact that coordination interaction of imidazole moiety to Pd-II is enthalpically more preferred compared to pyridine, which drives the selection process. Analysis of crystal packing of both complexes indicated the presence of strong hydrogen bonds between nitrate and water molecules and also H-bonded 3D networks of water. Both complexes exhibit promising proton conductivity (10(-5) to ca. 10(-3) Scm(-1)) at ambient temperature under a relative humidity of circa 98% with low activation energy.
