Topographical surfaces can be represented with a good degree of accuracy by means of maps. However these are not always the best tools for the understanding of more complex reliefs. In this sense, the greatest contribution of this work is to specify and to implement the architecture of an opensource software system capable of representing TIN (Triangular Irregular Network) based digital terrain models. The system implementation follows the object oriented programming and generic paradigms enabling the integration of various opensource tools such as GDAL, OGR, OpenGL, OpenSceneGraph and Qt. Furthermore, the representation core of the system has the ability to work with multiple topological data structures from which can be extracted, in constant time, all the connectivity relations between the entities vertices, edges and faces existing in a planar triangulation what helps enormously the implementation for real time applications. This is an important capability, for example, in the use of laser survey data (Lidar, ALS, TLS), allowing for the generation of triangular mesh models in the order of millions of points.

This paper proposes a model of educative content structuring for interactive digital television programs. Its intent was to provide references for collaborative production processes and content organization in learning networks associated with university and educative television broadcasting services. The model defines terms, actors, events, environments, as well as content categories, classes and attributes, indicating criteria for their synchronic or asynchronic association in a dynamic television schedule. The model is presented in both descriptive and visual formats, with the use of conceptual maps. The results indicate that interactive use of digital television in education requires systematic content models covering communitarian participation in both media production and distribution processes, in order to enhance learning instruments beyond vertical, hierarchical and centralized communication sustained by traditional broadcast channels.

With the deployment of Digital TV in Brazil, there is a need to foment the development and production of interactive audiovisual quality content, especially for programs that present educational messages from the entertainment concept - defined as Edutertainment. The objective of this study is to propose application of the gamification as a link of communication to encourage and modify user behavior, through a narrative that encourages intrinsic motivation for learning and entertainment in this media. This paper points out that there are few models of screenplays for applications production, particularly educational, with simultaneous interactive applications for television flow or complementary programming content offered. For this reason, a special attention is given to the screenplay, by virtue of inserting in its construction, the elements that make up the mechanics and dynamics of games. As a result, is shown the entry "Gamification-iDTV", which defines these two scenarios, as well as the development of a modeling methodology of a content and process, supported by conceptual maps, wireframes and roadmaps, substantiating the conception and elaboration of screenplay's prototype with elements of gamification for educational programs and its interaction applications.

This work aimed to apply geoprocessing techniques to identify and to quantify the types of vegetal coverings in part of the county Botucatu – SP, having been divided into three phases: acquisition of data; georeferencing based on the digital topographic maps in 1:50000 scale and finally the thematic maps were generated. O projeto „Por uma Biblioteca Brasiliana Digital‟ é parte integrante do projeto BRASILIANA USP, uma iniciativa da Reitoria da Universidade de São Paulo (USP), que tem por objetivo facultar para a pesquisa a maior Brasiliana custodiada por uma universidade, tornando-a disponível na internet. O trabalho que ora apresentamos é resultado da implantação de um modelo de biblioteca digital que atende aos padrões de interoperabilidade e compartilhamento de informações. Especificamente, apresentaremos os procedimentos e processos de descrição de conteúdos das diversas tipologias documentais (livros, periódicos, mapas, gravuras etc.) e formatos digitais (pdf, mp3, jpeg entre outros), bem como a consolidação de um esquema de metadados gerenciais e administrativos que contemplam as informações e dados produzidos pelo Projeto da Brasiliana Digital.

This paper describes the integration of information between Digital Library of Historical Cartography and Bibliographical Database (DEDALUS), both of the University of São Paulo (USP), to guarantee open, public access by Internet to the maps in the collection and make them available to users everywhere. This digital library was designed by Historical Cartography Studies Laboratory team (LECH/USP), and provides maps images on the Web, of high resolution, as well as such information on these maps as technical-scientific data (projection, scale, coordinates), printing techniques and material support that have made their circulation and cultural consumption possible. The Digital Library of Historical Cartography is accessible not only to the historical cartography researchers, but also to students and the general public. Beyond being a source of information about maps, the Digital Library of Historical Cartography seeks to be interactive, exchanging information and seeking dialogue with different branches of knowledge

[EN]Freshman students always present lower success rates than other levels of students. Digital systems is a course usually taught at first year studentsand its success rate is not very high. In this work we introduce three digital tools to improve freshman learning designed for easy use and one of them is a tool for mobile terminals that can be used as a game. The first tool is ParTec and is used to implement and test the partition technique. This technique is used to eliminate redundant states in finite state machines. This is a repetitive task that students do not like to perform. The second tool is called KarnUMa and is used for simplifying logic functions through Karnaugh Maps. Simplifying logical functions is a core task for this course and although students usually perform this task better than other tasks, it can still be improved. The third tool is a version of KarnUMa, designed for mobile devices. All the tools are available online for download and have been a helpful tool for students.

The spectacular advances computer science applied to geographic information systems (GIS) in recent times has favored the emergence of several technological solutions. These developments have given rise to enormous opportunities for digital management of the territory. Among the technological solutions, the most famous Google Maps offers free online mapping dynamic exhaustive of the Maps. In addition to meet the enormous needs of urban indicators geotagged information, we did work on this project “Integration of an urban observatory on Google Maps.” The problem of geolocation in the urban observatory is particularly relevant in the sense that there is currently no data (descriptive and geographical) reliable on the urban sector; we must stick to extrapolate from data old and obsolete. This helps to curb the effectiveness of urban management to make difficult investment programming and to prevent the acquisition of knowledge to make cities engines of growth. The use of a geolocation tool coupled to the data would allow better monitoring of indicators Our project's objective is to develop an interactive map server (WebMapping) which map layer is formed from the resources of the Google Maps servers and match information from the field to produce maps of urban equipment and infrastructure of a city data to the client's request To achieve this goal, we will participate in a study of a GPS location of strategic sites in our core sector (health facilities), on the other hand, using information from the field, we will build a postgresql database that will link the information from the field to map from Google Maps via KML scripts and PHP appropriate. We will limit ourselves in our work to the city of Douala Cameroon with the sectors of health facilities with the possibility of extension to other areas and other cities. High resolution digital elevation models (DEMs) of Santiaguito and Pacaya volcanoes, Guatemala, were used to estimate volume changes and eruption rates between 1954 and 2001. The DEMs were generated from contour maps and aerial photography, which were analyzed in ArcGIS 9.0®. Because both volcanoes were growing substantially over the five decade period, they provide a good data set for exploring effective methodology for estimating volume changes. The analysis shows that the Santiaguito dome complex grew by 0.78 ± 0.07 km3 (0.52 ± 0.05 m3 s-1) over the 1954-2001 period with nearly all the growth occurring on the El Brujo (1958-75) and Caliente domes (1971-2001). Adding information from field data prior to 1954, the total volume extruded from Santiaguito since 1922 is estimated at 1.48 ± 0.19 km3. Santiaguito’s growth rate is lower than most other volcanic domes, but it has been sustained over a much longer period and has undergone a change toward more exogenous and progressively slower extrusion with time. At Santiaguito some of the material being added at the dome is subsequently transported downstream by block and ash flows, mudflows and floods, creating channel shifting and areas of aggradation and erosion. At Pacaya volcano a total volume of 0.21 ± 0.05 km3 was erupted between 1961 and 2001 for an average extrusion rate of 0.17 ± 0.04 m3 s-1. Both the Santiaguito and Pacaya eruption rate estimates reported here are minima, because they do not include estimates of materials which are transported downslope after eruption and data on ashfall which may result in significant volumes of material spread over broad areas. Regular analysis of high resolution DEMs using the methods outlined here, would help quantify the effects of fluvial changes to downstream populated areas, as well as assist in tracking hazards related to dome collapse and eruption.

The intensive postwar search for new petroleum horizons has resulted in widespread prospecting in the northern Great Plains. No commercial production has as yet been derived from Ordovician or Devonian rocks in Montana, but the relatively few tests that have penetrated to critical depths have disclosed encouraging conditions which merit further consideration, especially in Devonian strata.

The Internet revolution and the digital environment have spurred a significant amount of innovative activity that has had spillover effects on many sectors of the economy. For a growing group of countries – both developed and developing – digital goods and services have become an important engine of economic growth and a clear priority in their future-oriented economic strategies. Neither the rapid technological developments associated with digitization, nor their increased societal significance have so far been reflected in international economic law in a comprehensive manner. The law of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in particular, has not reacted in any proactive manner. A pertinent question that arises is whether the WTO rules are still useful and able to accommodate the new digital economy or whether they have been rendered outdated and incapable of dealing with this important development? The present think-piece seeks answers to these questions and maps the key issues and challenges which the WTO faces. In appraisal of the current state of affairs, developments in venues other than the WTO, and proposals tabled by stakeholders, some recommendations for the ways forward are made.
