Tendo em vista que a redução da geração de resíduos industriais é limitada, a reciclagem de resíduos tem sido praticada na tentativa de minimizar os danos causados pelos mesmos. Devido à grande quantidade de materiais consumidos, a indústria da construção civil mostrase promissora para reciclagem de resíduos. Assim como vem sendo praticado com as escórias de alto-forno, esta pesquisa propõe a utilização da escória granulada de fundição, resíduo gerado no processo de fusão de ferro fundido via cubilô, como um material cimentante em concretos na construção civil. Ensaios de caracterização da escória apresentaram bons resultados para aplicação deste resíduo como substituição ao cimento, em termos de índice de pozolanicidade, grau de vitrificação, entre outros. Em razão de um grande número de estruturas de concreto armado necessitarem de intervenções, por não apresentarem um desempenho satisfatório em pouco tempo de uso, que a durabilidade das estruturas de concreto vem sendo amplamente estudada. Sendo assim, esta pesquisa avalia a durabilidade dos concretos com escória granulada de fundição, em termos de absorção de água por sucção capilar e penetração de íons cloreto. Foram estudados concretos contendo diferentes teores de substituição de cimento por escória granulada de fundição (0% - 10% - 30% - 50%), em volume, e relações água/aglomerante (0,40 – 0,55 – 0,70).Os resultados mostram que, para a mesma relação água/aglomerante, a substituição de cimento por escória granulada de fundição aumenta significativamente a taxa de absorção de água e não prejudica significativamente a penetração de íons cloreto. Entretanto, para um mesmo valor de resistência à compressão, a incorporação de escória granulada de fundição é viável tecnicamente, pois diminui a taxa de absorção e a penetração de cloretos.

Os elastômeros termoplásticos vulcanizados (TPVs) na sua maioria constituídos por borrachas apolares (EPDM, NR) e poliolefinas (PP, PE), apresentam a vantagem de serem processáveis como termoplásticos e serem facilmente reciclados. No entanto, apresentam desvantagens no que se refere à sua baixa resistência a óleos, combustíveis e graxas em relação à borracha termofixa. Este trabalho, teve como objetivo estudar a obtenção de TPVs com propriedades mecânicas adequadas e resistência a óleos e solventes orgânicos, a partir da borracha comercial SBR 1502 parcialmente epoxidada. Esta, por ter a estrutura química de sua cadeia principal modificada pela introdução de grupos epóxidos, deve apresentar melhor resistência a óleos e solventes. Os TPVs foram obtidos em misturador fechado acoplado a um reômetro Haake, na temperatura de 1800C e velocidade de rotor de 75 rpm, vulcanizados dinamicamente com o sistema Bismaleimida/peróxido de dicumila. Foram caracterizados quanto às suas propriedades mecânicas por medidas tensão-deformação, medidas mecânicas dinâmicas, inchamento em ciclohexano, THF e óleo IRM 903, dureza. A morfologia foi determinada por microscopia eletrônica de varredura, MEV. Foram analisados os fatores que influenciam as propriedades dos TPVs, tais como composição (relação PP/SBR), teor de BMI, grau de epoxidação da borracha, uso de agente compatibilizante. O TPV na composição PP/SBR 40/60, esta epoxidada em 40 mol % e contendo o agente compatibilizante Vestenamer adicionado na forma de blenda (borracha/agente compatibilizante) apresentou a melhor resposta em termos de tensão-deformação na ruptura. Os TPVs com a SBR epoxidada em 70% apresentaram melhor resistência a óleo e solventes. Os fatores, potencialmente, capazes de influenciar a dureza dos TPVs também foram avaliados. Neste particular, verificou-se que o tipo de poliolefina, bem como o uso de plastificante são os fatores que mais influenciam a dureza dos TPVs.

Na realização deste trabalho pretendeu-se caracterizar amostras de betão recolhidas ao longo de dois túneis da Região Autónomo da Madeira com o objetivo de traçar um perfil de composição e relacionar com a durabilidade. Para tal foram recolhidas amostras em dois túneis, o Túnel da Cruz Vermelha e o Túnel da Encumeada. De modo a caracterizar o betão foram realizados ensaios de carbonatação, determinação do teor de cloretos em profundidade em laboratório, termogravimétrica, análise macroestrutural e de difração raios X. Realizou-se uma previsão de quando é que as armaduras poderão deixar de estar passivadas devido a carbonatação (período de iniciação) e quando é que os túneis deverão ser alvos de reparações devido a corrosão (período de propagação). Tentou-se verificar a influência da carbonatação em altura no Túnel da Cruz Vermelha. Demonstrou-se que a fissuração é uma zona de fácil acesso para as substâncias agressivas penetrarem para o interior do betão, nomeadamente o dióxido de carbono relacionado com a carbonatação. Demonstrou-se também que é possível determinar a profundidade carbonatação através da difração de raios X. Verificou-se que o método (difração de Raio X) usado para determinar a composição do betão de ambos os túneis é viável. Constatou-se que praticamente todas as carotes apresentam pontos com valores de cloretos superiores aos permitidos pela norma atualmente em vigor (NP EN 206-1: 2007). Uma das possíveis razões para esses valores é o facto de na RAM, a areia utilizada no fabrico do betão ser de origem marítima. Em termos da profundidade de carbonatação verificou-se que praticamente em todas as amostras, o valor determinado ainda não tinha alcançado as armaduras e deste modo encontravam-se passivadas, com exceção a carote nº10 (Túnel Encumeada) em que a carbonatação já tinha ultrapassado o valor do recobrimento e a armadura já apresentava sinais de corrosão.

Portland-polymers composites are promising candidates to be used as cementing material in Northeastern oil wells of Brazil containing heavy oils submitted to steam injection. In this way, it is necessary to evaluate its degradation in the commonly acidizind agents. In addition, to identify how aggressive are the different hostile environments it is an important contribution on the decision of the acidic systems to be used in. It was investigated the performance of the Portland-polymer composites using powdered polyurethane, aqueous polyurethane, rubber tire residues and a biopolymer, those were reinforced with polished carbon steel SAE 1045 to make the electrochemical measurements. HCl 15,0 %, HCl 6,0 % + HF 1,5 % (soft mud acid), HCl 12,0 % + HF 3,0 % (regular mud acid) and HAc 10 % + HF 1,5 % were used as degrading environment and electrolytes. The more aggressive acid solution to the plain Portland hardened cement paste was the regular mud acid, that showed loss of weight around 23.0 %, followed by the soft mud acid, the showed 11.0 %, 15.0 % HCl with 7,0 % and, at last the 10.0 % HAc plus HF 1.5 % with just 1.0 %. The powdered polyurethane-composite and the aqueous polyurethane one showed larger durability, with reduction around 87.0 % on the loss of weight in regular mud acid. The acid attack is superficial and it occurs as an action layer, where the degraded layer is responsible for the decrease on the kinetic of the degrading process. This behavior can be seen mainly on the Portland- aqueous polyurethane composite, because the degraded layer is impregnated with chemically modified polymer. The fact of the acid attack does not have influence on the compressive strength or fratography of the samples, in a general way, confirms that theory. The mechanism of the efficiency of the Portland-polymers composites subjected to acid attack is due to decreased porosity and permeability related with the plain Portland paste, minor quantity of Ca+2, element preferentially leached to the acidic solution, wave effect and to substitute part of the degrading bulk for the polymeric one. The electrolyte HAc 10 % + HF 1,5 % was the least aggressive one to the external corrosion of the casing, showing open circuit potentials around +250 mV compared to -130 mV to the simulated pore solution to the first 24 hours immersion. This behavior has been performed for two months at least. Similar corrosion rates were showed between both of the electrolytes, around 0.01 μA.cm-2. Total impedance values, insipient arcs and big polarization resistance capacitive arcs on the Nyquist plots, indicating passivity process, confirm its efficiency. In this way, Portlandpolymers composites are possible solutions to be succeed applied to oilwell cementing concomitant submitted to steam injection and acidizing operation and the HAc 10,0 % + HF 1,5 % is the less aggressive solution to the external corrosion of the casing

The development of activities in the oil and gas sector has been promoting the search for materials more adequate to oilwell cementing operation. In the state of Rio Grande do Norte, the cement sheath integrity tend to fail during steam injection operation which is necessary to increase oil recovery in reservoir with heavy oil. Geopolymer is a material that can be used as alternative cement. It has been used in manufacturing of fireproof compounds, construction of structures and for controlling of toxic or radioactive waste. Latex is widely used in Portland cement slurries and its characteristic is the increase of compressive strength of cement slurries. Sodium Tetraborate is used in dental cement as a retarder. The addition of this additive aim to improve the geopolymeric slurries properties for oilwell cementing operation. The slurries studied are constituted of metakaolinite, potassium silicate, potassium hydroxide, non-ionic latex and sodium tetraborate. The properties evaluated were: viscosity, compressive strength, thickening time, density, fluid loss control, at ambient temperature (27 ºC) and at cement specification temperature. The tests were carried out in accordance to the practical recommendations of the norm API RP 10B. The slurries with sodium tetraborate did not change either their rheological properties or their mechanical properties or their density in relation the slurry with no additive. The increase of the concentration of sodium tetraborate increased the water loss at both temperatures studied. The best result obtained with the addition of sodium tetraborate was thickening time, which was tripled. The addition of latex in the slurries studied diminished their rheological properties and their density, however, at ambient temperature, it increased their compressive strength and it functioned as an accelerator. The increase of latex concentration increased the presence of water and then diminished the density of the slurries and increased the water loss. From the results obtained, it was concluded that sodium tetraborate and non-ionic latex are promising additives for geopolymer slurries to be used in oilwell cementing operation

This thesis has as objective presents a methodology to evaluate the behavior of the corrosion inhibitors sodium nitrite, sodium dichromate and sodium molybdate, as well as your mixture, the corrosion process for the built-in steel in the reinforced concrete, through different techniques electrochemical, as well as the mechanical properties of that concrete non conventional. The addition of the inhibitors was studied in the concrete in the proportions from 0.5 to 3.5 % regarding the cement mass, isolated or in the mixture, with concrete mixture proportions of 1.0:1.5:2.5 (cement, fine aggregate and coarse aggregate), superplasticizers 2.0 % and 0.40 water/cement ratio. In the modified concrete resistance rehearsals they were accomplished to the compression, consistence and the absorption of water, while to analyze the built-in steel in the concrete the rehearsals of polarization curves they were made. They were also execute, rehearsals of corrosion potential and polarization resistance with intention of diagnose the beginning of the corrosion of the armors inserted in body-of-proof submitted to an accelerated exhibition in immersion cycle and drying to the air. It was concluded, that among the studied inhibitors sodium nitrite , in the proportion of 2.0 % in relation to the mass of the cement, presented the best capacity of protection of the steel through all the studied techniques and that the methodology and the monitoring techniques used in this work, they were shown appropriate to evaluate the behavior and the efficiency of the inhibitors

It is a case study that reports the construction of metal truss bridge in the river Potengi in Natal, Rio Grande do Norte, between the years 1912 and 1916. From testimonials on steel bridges in Brazil and worldwide including foundations. Documentary research from procurement of projects and contracts was performed. A chronology of construction, with a description of the equipment used and its original budget with the Brazilian government. Still, we used interviews and surveys with experimental sampling / testimonies, laboratory tests. This study aims to analyze historically and technically the Bridge over the River Potengi, emphasizing primarily the construction process, the qualities and characteristics of the materials used and the technological, chemical, mineralogical and microstructural properties of cement and concrete used in its construction. Taking as conclusions that cements pozolônicos ensured a good durability to the concrete in a hundred-year period and that the solution employed with the compressed air caissons was right

The process of recycling has been stimulated by the markets for several reasons, mainly on economical and environmental. Several products have been developed from recycled materials that already exist as well as several residues have been studied in different forms of applications. The greater majority of the applications for thermal insulation in the domestic, commercial and industrial systems have been elaborated in the temperature ranges between low to medium reaching up to 180oC. Many materials such as glass wool, rock wool, polystyrene are being used which are aggressive to the environment. Such materials in spite of the effectiveness in the retention of heat flow, they cost more and when discarded take several years to be absorbed by the nature. This way, in order to adapt to a world politics concerning the preservation of the environment, the present study was intended to develop a material composed of natural/biodegradable materials and industrial residues. The development of such a product in the form of a composite material based on tyre scrapes and latex for thermal insulation is presented in this research work. Thermal and physical properties of the tire scrapes as well as latex were studied in order to use them as raw materials for the manufacture of the intended composite to be applied as a thermal insulator in hot and cold systems varying between 0ºC and 200oC, respectively. Composite blankets were manufactured manually, in weight proportions of 1:1 (50:50%); 1:2 (33:67%) and 2:1 (67:33%) (tire scrapes: latex) respectively. Physical, mechanical and thermal properties of the composites were analyzed to obtain data about the viability of using the composite as a thermal insulator. The analyses carried out were based on standards ABNT, ASTM and UL. The maximum temperature obtained for the composite as a thermal insulator was 200ºC, which meets the range of applications that could be used as a thermal insulator in domestic as well as industrial purposes. The experimental results prove that the composite can be used as a thermal insulator on heated or cooled surface

Esferas de poliestireno foram obtidas através da polimerização do estireno sem a presença de emulsificante. A suspensão foi caracterizada por Espalhamento de Luz e Microscopia Eletrônica de Transmissão apresentando monodispersidade com tamanho em torno de 463 nm. O método de deposição vertical foi utilizado para preparar filmes em substratos de vidro a partir da suspensão de esferas. Filmes de opalas de alta qualidade foram obtidos e caracterizados por Espectroscopia de Reflectância, Microscopia Eletrônica de Varredura e Microscopia Óptica.
