En aquest Projecte el que es planteja és abraçar el màxim d’elementspatrimonials del municipi i crear una ruta, per conèixer, estudiar i descobrir quins sónels elements més característics, emblemàtics, i més rellevants per després poderincloure’ls en la nostra proposta. En aquesta ruta, acabaran entrant doncs, tant elpatrimoni inventariable, com el patrimoni intangible, sempre i quan tinguin unasingularitat que la facin atractiva i interessant per al visitant. Aquest treball és un estudi sobre edificacions l’època modernista i noucentista (i noucentisme tardà) que es troben a la localitat d’Arbúcies amb l’objectiu d’oferir un nou recurs turístic que permeti dinamitzar el municipi. Ara bé, l’objectiu d’aquest treball no és mostrar els continguts teòrics sobre aquest tema, sinó quin és el procediment (el com) que, un cop finalitzat l’estudi, es durà a terme per tal de difondre i informar els habitants i turistes de la vila que existeix aquest patrimoni arquitectònic que sovint passa desapercebut

The Lincoln County Historical Council began meeting December 17,1960 under the advisement of the Publicity, Planning and Development Committee of Lincoln County. The group was composed of three members appointed from each of the four existing historical societies: one member appointed from the executive of the Women’s Institute, one member from Lincoln County Council, the Deputy-Clerk and Treasurer of the County and a member from the Niagara Editorial Bureau. The Welland County Historical Council was soon formed after this along the same lines. In the early 1960’s the Lincoln and Welland County historical councils began work on an inventory of historic buildings with the intent to emphasize the historical significance of this area. The information gathered by volunteers and a professional photographer and an architect was used to present a “brief” to the federal government in 1962 and the provincial government in 1963. This brief, An Area of Historical Interest in the Counties of Lincoln and Welland, Ontario was published in 1962 and revised and distributed to schools and libraries in the area in 1965. The Ontario Buildings Inventory Project became a provincial initiative spearheaded by the Department of Public Records and Archives, a branch of the Department of Tourism and Information, ca. 1966. Volunteers collected and photographed buildings of historical interest in Lincoln and Welland counties. This information was recorded on standardized survey forms for every township in the Niagara region. Niagara Regional Historical Council was created with the merger of Lincoln County Historical Council and Welland County Historical Council, at the time of the formation of Niagara Regional Government in 1970. The first meeting of the new council was held January 1970.

The County of Lincoln dates back to 1798, when the first Lincoln County was formed. It was comprised of the townships of Clinton, Grimsby, Saltfleet, Barton, Ancaster, Glanford, Binbrook,Gainsborough, Caistor, Newark (Niagara),Grantham, Louth, Stamford, Thorold, Pelham, Bertie, Willoughby, Crowland, Humberstone and Wainfleet. The County boundaries were revised over the years, and the formation of Welland County in 1856 left only 7 townships in Lincoln County (Niagara, Grantham, Louth, Clinton, Gainsborough, Caistor and Grimsby). A County Council was also established at this time, which consisted of a Clerk, Warden, and a representative from each township. In 1862, the County Seat was moved from Niagara-on-the-Lake to St. Catharines. In 1970, Lincoln and Welland Counties were amalgamated to form the Regional Municipality of Niagara.

Battlefield House was originally the home of Mary Gage, a widow who arrived in Canada with 2 children after her husband was killed in action in the American Revolution in 1777. The original house was a log cabin which was replaced by a storey and a half frame house. Col. Nelson was the next owner of the house, and in the middle of the 19th century he raised the roof to make it a 2 storey house and added a large west wing. Successive owners: the Glover, Williams and Fisher families made a few changes to the house. The last owner was D.A. Fletcher who tore down the newer, western half of the building in 1895. In 1899, Mrs. John Calder, a granddaughter of James Gage formed the Women’s Wentworth Historical Society and raised enough money to buy the Gage Farmhouse and the land around it on which the Battle of Stoney Creek was fought. In 1910 this group purchased another 13 acres of the original Crown Grant and made 17 ½ acres of parkland open to the public. The women of the Society renovated and furnished the house. They maintained the building for 63 years. It was due to them that a monument was erected above the house by the Dominion Government. The monument was unveiled on the 100th anniversary of the Battle, June 6, 1913. The house was turned over by the Historical Society to The Niagara Parks Commission on January 19th, 1962. L’identité en projets : ville, architecture et patrimoine. Analyse de concours à Québec et à Toronto

Dans un contexte de globalisation et de profusion des discours identitaires, la thèse examine le concept d’identité, ses définitions et ses usages dans les débats et les pratiques de la ville, de l’architecture et du patrimoine. Les interventions sur un bâtiment historique révèlent autant le rapport identitaire de la société avec son histoire que celui avec le monde contemporain. La recherche traite de concours d’architecture dans deux villes canadiennes qui aspirent à se positionner à l’échelle internationale, l’une focalisant sur l’aspect contemporain global et l’autre sur l’aspect historique et local. L’objectif de la recherche est d’une part de contribuer au dévoilement du processus de construction identitaire des villes contemporaines à travers les projets d’architecture. D’autre part, il s’agit d’analyser le processus d’identification et l’identité architecturale dans son rapport à l’histoire et à la contemporanéité dans la pratique au sein de bâtiments historiques. La ville devient un objet de communication, qui use de marketing urbain, pour augmenter sa visibilité. L’architecture devient un moyen de communication utilisé pour transmettre une identité visuelle. La méthodologie combine l’analyse des discours, ainsi que l’analyse de l’architecture et de sa représentation. Le choix du concours du Centre d'accueil et d'interprétation de la Place-Royale à Québec (1996) et de l’agrandissement du Musée royal d’Ontario (2001) à Toronto permet d’appréhender les différentes facettes du concept d’identité et de révéler les enjeux locaux et internationaux. Le fait qu’il s’agisse de concours donne accès à un corpus de discours qui comprend les programmes, les politiques de la ville, les présentations des architectes et la réception. L’histoire de chaque concours ainsi que l’analyse sémantique des discours de la commande éclairent le rapport entre les processus et les intentions et permettent de mettre en lumière les enjeux locaux. L’analyse des discours textuels et visuels des architectes dévoile le processus d’identification des projets, les différents types de référents impliqués ainsi que les stratégies de communication employées. L’analyse des projets rend compte des caractéristiques de l’identité de l’architecture contemporaine et son rapport avec le patrimoine. La recherche dévoile l’importance des discours et de la communication dans la construction identitaire des villes en amont des concours ainsi que le débat sociétal que la question pose. Durant le processus d’identification architecturale, le biais induit par la commande amène une emphase et une surenchère des discours historiques par les architectes dans le cas de Québec. Les projets proposés misent sur une mise en scène de la ville historique et du patrimoine et focalisent sur l’expérience visuelle des visiteurs. Dans le cas de Toronto, l’intérêt pour l’aspect global et spectaculaire dans la construction identitaire de la ville en amont du concours, génère un engouement pour une représentation attractive des projets et pour une architecture iconique.

Heritage tourism depends on a physical resource based primarily on listed buildings and scheduled monuments. Visiting or staying in a historic building provides a rich tourism experience, but historic environments date from eras when access for disabled people was not a consideration. Current UK Government policy now promotes social inclusion via an array of equal opportunities, widening participation and anti-discrimination policies. Historic environments enjoy considerable legislative protection from adverse change, but now need to balance conservation with public access for all. This paper discusses the basis of research being undertaken by The College of Estate Management funded by the Mercers Company of London and the Harold Samuel Trust. It assesses how the 1995 Disability Discrimination Act has changed the legal obligations of owners/operators in managing access to listed buildings in tourism use. It also examines the key stakeholders and power structures in the management of historic buildings and distinguishes other important players in the management process.

This research analyzes the actual Historic-Architectural Heritage of Assú City which is located in Rio Grande do Norte State, Brazil, the study is based on both Assú s residents perception and technician s viewpoint. It looks forward to expose this community s relationship with the existing number of historic buildings, the scale of people s identity to the place and the association of this perception toward the preservation and conservation s scale of the historic settlement. Since the contextualization of the degradation s process of central areas, the study draw nea initially the conceptual aspects, focusing on the debate about heritage and the preservationist practice. The work complements the discussion through an approach on people-environment relationship and environmental perception, considering relevant factors for planning process. The obtained and presented data had diagnosed the condition of the architectural pile and also allowed this work to formulate recommendations for the studied area and architectural set in order to contribute for future urban politics implementation that consider the building, which are not only important to the considered population, but to the Rio Grande do Norte s History, as well

The research project concerns the restoration of military real estate, starting from the procedures in progress in Italy related to dismission, with particular emphasis for Piacenza and the case study of Caserme Bixio and Nicolai (Comparto Nord/San Sisto-Cittadella). The work is aimed at defining the relationship between urban planning and rehabilitation of dismissed military areas, in order to create a synergic effort capable to face the transformation of these sites and their integration into the urban tissue. The results obtained from the various recordings performed in Italy and in USA during the preparation of this thesis may help to find a new possible scenario for the Comparto Nord and its historic buildings.
