In the photoluminescence (PL) of BaFBr:Eu2+,Eu3+, the emissions of Ea(2+), carrier electron-hole (e-h) recombination, and Eu3+ are observed, while in the photostimulated luminescence (PSL) only the emission of Eu2+ is exhibited. This disappearance of e-h recombination in PSL is considered to be caused by carrier migration during photo-stimulation. (C) 1997 American Institute of Physics.

Spherical MCM-41 particles with a diameter of about 150 nm have been successfully coated with CaWO4:Ln (Ln = Eu3+, Dy3+, Sm3+, Er3+) phosphor layers through a simple Pechini sol-gel process. The obtained CaWO4:Ln@MCM-41 composites, which kept the mesoporous structure of MCM-41 and the luminescent properties of phosphors, were investigated as a drug delivery system using aspirin (ASPL) as a model drug.

Luminescent Ln (Eu3+, Tb3+) doped hydroxyapatite (Eu:HAp, Tb:HAp) phosphors were successfully fabricated via the cetyltrimethylammonium bromide (CTAB)/n-octane/n-butanol/water microemulsion-mediated solvothermal process. The structure, morphology, and optical properties were systematically characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), and photoluminescence (PL) spectra as well as the kinetic decays, respectively.

The size controllable Gd2O3:Eu3+ luminescence nanotubes were successfully prepared using a simple method by coating gadolinium compounds on the carbon nanotubes and then firing the carbon nanotubes. The morphology of the obtained Gd2O3:Eu3+ nanotubes was determined by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). It was found that the obtained nanotubes have the outer diameters of similar to 100 nm, the inner diameters of similar to 50 nm, and the lengths of several tens of microns. The sizes of Gd2O3:Eu3+ nanotubes can be easily controlled by changing the reaction times and the concentration of reactants.

Nanocrystallinc Y2O2S:Eu3+ was successfully prepared with a combustion synthesis method, the corresponding bulk Y2O2S:Eu3+ was synthesized by conventional sulfur flux method. The results of XRD indicated that both bulk and nanocrystalline Y2O2S:Eu3+ have Pure hexagonal phases. The crystallite size was calculated to be about 20 nm according to Scherrer formula, which was consistent with the size as indicated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM).

Rhombohedral-calcite and hexagonal-vaterite types of LuBO:Eu3+ microparticles with various complex self-assembled 3D architectures have been prepared selectively by an efficient surfactant- and template-free hydrothermal process for the first time. X-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscopy, energy-dispersive X-ray spectrometry, transmission electron microscopy, high-resolution transmission electron microscopy, selected area electron diffraction, photoluminescence, and cathodoluminescence spectra as well as kinetic decays were used to characterize the samples.

One-dimensional YVO4:Ln and Y(V, P)O-4:Ln nanofibers and quasi-one-dimensional YVO4:Ln microbelts (Ln = Eu3+, Sm3+, Dy3+) have been prepared by a combination method of sol-gel process and electrospinning. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR), thermogravimetric and differential thermal analysis (TG-DTA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), photoluminescence (PL), low-voltage cathodoluminescence (CL), and time-resolved emission spectra as well as kinetic decays were used to characterize the resulting samples.

Tb(1-x)BO3:xEu(3+) (x = 0-1) microsphere phosphors have been successfully prepared by a simple hydrothermal process directly without further sintering treatment. X-ray diffraction (XRD), Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM), selected area electron diffraction (SAED), photoluminescence (PL), low-voltage cathodoluminescence (CL), and time-resolved emission spectra as well as lifetimes were used to characterize the samples.

The core-shell structured YNbO4:Eu3+/Tb3+@SiO2 particles were realized by coating the YNbO4:Etr(3+)/Tb3+ phosphors onto the surface of spherical silica via a sol-gel process. The obtained materials were characterized by means of X-ray diffraction (XRD), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), Fourier transform IR spectroscopy (FT-IR), photoluminescence (PL) spectra, and cathodoluminescence (CL) spectra.

In this paper, nanocrystalline YVO4:Eu3+ powders have been successfully synthesized via high-temperature solution-phase synthesis process. The nanocrystalline YVO4:Eu3+ particles were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), UVNis absorption spectra and luminescence spectra, luminescence decay curve and Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR), X-ray photoelectron spectra (XPS) respectively. The as-prepared nanocrystalline YVO4:Eu3+ particles are well crystallized with ellipsoidal morphology.

Nanostructured CaWO4, CaWO4:Eu3+, and CaWO4:Tb3+ phosphor particles were synthesized via a facile sonochemical route. X-ray diffraction, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy, field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, photoluminescence, low voltage cathodoluminescence spectra, and photoluminescence lifetimes were used to characterize the as-obtained samples. The X-ray diffraction results indicate that the samples are well crystallized with the scheelite structure of CaWO4.
