The treatment of wastewaters contaminated with oil is of great practical interest and it is fundamental in environmental issues. A relevant process, which has been studied on continuous treatment of contaminated water with oil, is the equipment denominated MDIF® (a mixer-settler based on phase inversion). An important variable during the operation of MDIF® is the water-solvent interface level in the separation section. The control of this level is essential both to avoid the dragging of the solvent during the water removal and improve the extraction efficiency of the oil by the solvent. The measurement of oil-water interface level (in line) is still a hard task. There are few sensors able to measure oil-water interface level in a reliable way. In the case of lab scale systems, there are no interface sensors with compatible dimensions. The objective of this work was to implement a level control system to the organic solvent/water interface level on the equipment MDIF®. The detection of the interface level is based on the acquisition and treatment of images obtained dynamically through a standard camera (webcam). The control strategy was developed to operate in feedback mode, where the level measure obtained by image detection is compared to the desired level and an action is taken on a control valve according to an implemented PID law. A control and data acquisition program was developed in Fortran to accomplish the following tasks: image acquisition; water-solvent interface identification; to perform decisions and send control signals; and to record data in files. Some experimental runs in open-loop were carried out using the MDIF® and random pulse disturbances were applied on the input variable (water outlet flow). The responses of interface level permitted the process identification by transfer models. From these models, the parameters for a PID controller were tuned by direct synthesis and tests in closed-loop were performed. Preliminary results for the feedback loop demonstrated that the sensor and the control strategy developed in this work were suitable for the control of organic solvent-water interface level

Una de las formas de política territorial de la Universidad Nacional de la Plata consiste en la implementación de Centros Comunitarios de Extensión Universitaria en la región. Estos Centros constituyen un dispositivo de trabajo donde se articulan formas de intervención de actores universitarios y prácticas de actores barriales. En los últimos años, se prevé la creación de un Centro Comunitario en Puente de Fierro, uno de los barrios de la periferia de la ciudad de La Plata con mayor vulneración de derechos. Sin embargo, su proceso de construcción se ve condicionado por prácticas de politicidad de referentes territoriales, figuras clave dentro de este entramado barrial, que establecen relaciones de mediación informal con los habitantes. El presente trabajo de investigación se propone analizar de qué manera las prácticas de politicidad de los referentes territoriales del barrio Puente de Fierro inciden en el proceso de creación del Centro Comunitario de Extensión Universitaria durante los años 2013 y 2014. Para ello, nos serviremos de un abordaje cualitativo centrado en la escala local: el espacio barrial, la trama microsocial y el estudio de la política en sentido cotidiano. A través de observaciones participantes y entrevistas, se buscará reconstruir la perspectiva de los actores involucrados en la creación de este Centro. Para finalizar, estudiar la forma en que se articulan los actores ?de? y ?en? el barrio, a propósito de la implementación de este dispositivo, permite asimismo contribuir en el estudio de la relación que se establece entre política en los sectores populares y universidad

Fibromialgia é uma síndrome de etiologia desconhecida com dor difusa, generalizada e crônica. O diagnóstico da fibromialgia deve ser feito de acordo com o critério do American College of Rheumatology (ACR) 1990. O paciente deve apresentar dor difusa por mais de três meses e relatar dor à palpação em pelo menos 11 de 18 pontos sensíveis, chamados de tender points , caracaterizando assim a síndrome. A maioria dos pacientes acometidos são mulheres, e o pico de incidência etária na ocasião do diagnóstico está entre 40 e 50 anos. A dor crônica promove um impacto na qualidade de vida dessas pessoas, diminuindo sua auto-estima, isolando-as do convívio social e fazendo com que percam o controle dos seus pensamentos e sentimentos. Sintomas depressivos podem ser o resultado da disfunção orgânica, associada às condições de limitação das atividades diárias.Este estudo tem como objetivo investigar a presença dos sintomas depressivos e analisar o impacto dos mesmos sobre a qualidade de vida das pacientes com SF. Foram selecionadas 30 mulheres com diagnóstico de SF, em atendimento no período de outubro a novembro de 2005, as quais responderam a dois questionários: Inventário de Depressão de Beck, para investigar a presença de sinto- mas depressivos e o SF-36 Medical Outcome Survey Short Form -36, para avaliar a qualidade de vida. Os resultados obtidos na estatística pelo programa SPS demons- tram que os sintomas depressivos são responsáveis pelo impacto na qualidade de vida dessas pessoas, principalmente nos domínios: aspectos físicos, aspectos sociais, saú- de mental, vitalidade e saúde geral. A análise dos dados sugere que os sintomas depressivos podem influenciar negativamente a qualidade de vida das mulheres fibromiálgicas, pois aumenta a sensação de incapacidade física, diminui a qualidade das relações sociais, aumenta o pessimismo, a fadiga e o desânimo

Baseado na metodologia de design participativo, este artigo relata o processo de pesquisa e desenvolvimento de uma versão mobile de um sistema já existente para desktop e amplamente utilizado para o compartilhamento de informações acadêmicas em uma universidade federal do Brasil. A pesquisa foi realizada em duas etapas. Na ‘Etapa I’ foram realizados estudos baseados em etnografia envolvendo docentes e discentes: Grupo de Foco, Análise Contextual, Avaliação Heurística Participativa e Avaliação Cooperativa. Por meio dos resultados foi possível identificar funcionalidades e requisitos desejáveis, problemas de usabilidade de uma versão mobile já em processo inicial de desenvolvimento, bem como e elaboração de uma nova interface gráfica. Na ‘Etapa II’ foram avaliados modelos de interação por meio de protótipos especificamente projetados para testes no mecanismo de lançamento de frequência do sistema mobile que, em seguida, foram avaliados através de testes de usabilidade e questionário de satisfação do usuário.

Commercially available haptic interfaces are usable for many purposes. However, as generic devices they are not the most suitable for the control of heavy duty mobile working machines like mining machines, container handling equipment and excavators. Alternative mechanical constructions for a haptic controller are presented and analysed. A virtual reality environment (VRE) was built to test the proposed haptic controller mechanisms. Verification of an electric motor emulating a hydraulic pump in the electro-hydraulic system of a mobile working machine is carried out. A real-time simulator using multi-body-dynamics based software with hardware-in-loop (HIL) setup was used for the tests. Recommendations for further development of a haptic controller and emulator electric motor are given.

Mobile human-computer interaction, unlike desktop-based interaction, must be cognizant of a variety of complex contextual factors affecting both users and technology. The different characteristics and needs of mobile device users, the situations in which these devices are operated and the limitations and characteristics of these devices are all factors which influence usability and ergonomics; two elements highly required for achieving successful interaction between users and devices. This research aims to identify characteristics of interface design for apps in mobile device applications, focussing on design, visual publishing and content editing, and the actual process of creation of these interfaces, with a view to guarantee quality interaction through touch technology, in observance of service limitations, the opportunities offered by the devices and the application requirements. The study will examine the interface of the mobile device application titled “Brasil 247” which provides news broadcasts using the concept of usability and ergonomics mainly in the field of adaptation, searching and browsing informative articles, as well as clarifying the processes and techniques necessary to carry out interaction tests which seek to evaluate the usability of interface.

With hardware and software technologies advance, it s also happenning modifications in the development models of computational systems. New methodologies for user interface specification are being created with user interface description languages (UIDL). The UIDLs are a way to have a precise description in a language with more abstraction and independent of how will be implemented. A great problem is that even using these nowadays methodologies, we still have a big distance between the UIDLs and its design, what means, the distance between abstract and concrete. The tool BRIDGE (Interface Design Generator Environment) was created with the intention of being a linking bridge between a specification language (the Interactive Message Modeling Language IMML) and its implementation in Java, linking the abstract (specification) to the concrete (implementation). IMML is a language based on models, that allows the designer works in distinct abstraction levels, being each model a distinct abstraction level. IMML is a XML language, that uses the Semiotic Engineering concepts, that deals the computational system, with the user interface and its elements like a metacommunicative artifact, where these elements must to transmit a message to the user about what task must to be realized and the way to reach this goal. With BRIDGE, we intend to supply a lot of support to the design task, being the user interface prototipation the greater of them. BRIDGE allows the design becomes easier and more intuitive coming from an interface specification language

The paper presents an ergonomic analysis of reading usability of electronic journals and the comparison with newspapers. As a method, it was adopted an evaluation of the user perception, from a printed questionnaire applied to a group of 41 people. Overall, the results indicate that on the analyzed newspapers there is need for greater care concerning the aspects of visual representation, involving more design application, usability, ergonomics, technology and communication.

Ecological interface design (EID) is proving to be a promising approach to the design of interfaces for complex dynamic systems. Although the principles of EID and examples of its effective use are widely available, few readily available examples exist of how the individual displays that constitute an ecological interface are developed. This paper presents the semantic mapping process within EID in the context of prior theoretical work in this area. The semantic mapping process that was used in developing an ecological interface for the Pasteurizer II microworld is outlined, and the results of an evaluation of the ecological interface against a more conventional interface are briefly presented. Subjective reports indicate features of the ecological interface that made it particularly valuable for participants. Finally, we outline the steps of an analytic process for using EID. The findings presented here can be applied in the design of ecological interfaces or of configural displays for dynamic processes.
