Tercer artículo de tres escritos por el autor para significar la presencia del importante biólogo marino en Cuba, en este particularmente aborda los barcos hundidos encontrados en esta expedición así como también las especies identificadas.

Artículo realizado para recordar la visita hace 10 años a Cuba de Jacques Ives Cousteau. Se identifican los resultados más relevantes a la luz del tiempo transcurrido y su significación.

Metodología para la impartición de tópicos de estadística y probabilidades en la enseñanza preuniversitaria en Cuba

En el trabajo se presenta una síntesis de la importancia que se atribuye a formar una cultura estadística en los ciudadanos, se caracterizan los programas de Matemática para décimo y duodécimo grado en Cuba, los que contemplan contenidos de Estadística Descriptiva y Probabilidades; así mismo, se valoran estos contenidos y se presenta una metodología encaminada a orientar a los profesores de la enseñanza media superior en lo referente a la organización y desarrollo del proceso de enseñanza-aprendizaje de la Estadística y las Probabilidades.

Diversity of functional groups in the vegetation sandy seashore of the Grande, Anclitas and Caguamas Cays (Jardines de la Reina Archipelago, Cuba)

Sandy shores are known to be extreme ecosystems where the vegetation has evolved many morphological and physiological adaptations for its survival. With the aim of identify possible relationships between the vegetation´s functional diversity with abiotic factors and its corresponding quantification, we collected data on the abundance and richness of the sandy coast vegetation complex in Grande, Anclitas and Caguamas keys. Its flora is largely characterized by the dominance of hemicryptophytes and chamaephytes plants with nanophyllous leaves and displaying dispersal syndromes such as zoochory and anemochory. However, the functional groups´ richness, in the present study, varies from one key to another. Functional diversity is similar between the wet and dry seasons, and its spatial variation is influenced by the interplay of the set of abiotic factors herein studied.

Non-agrocultural co-peratives and economy transformation in Cuba: politic processes and strategies

Contribution of co-operatives has been demonstrated since the 1970s as the main development line in agricultural production in Cuba. In contrast, there has been a late recognition of urban co-operatives, even if the need of transformations based on the realization of property in different territorial scenarios had been identified. The article analyses the reform processes launched since the first decade of the 21st century focusing on the nature of the initiatives fostering formation and promotion of nonagricultural co-operatives including follow up of their performance. The potential and limitations of the recent experiences are examined in order to reflect on the organizational processes and transformations from the point of view of their members. To conclude, some questions are posed about whether these co-operatives are capable of avoiding the impact of earlier employment circumstances and of developing strategies aimed at reinforcing voluntary membership and autonomy on which they are founded.

The challenge and response to global tourism in the post-modern era: the commodification, reconfiguration and mutual transformation of Habana Vieja, Cuba

There is a growing literature on the symbolic and cultural meanings of tourism and the ways in which cities are increasingly competing for tourists through the promotion of cultural assets and different forms of spectacle in the `tourist bubble'. To date, research on the role and impact of tourism in cities has largely been confined to those in Western, post-industrial economies. This paper examines the growth of cultural tourism in the central area of Havana, Cuba, and explores the range of unique, devolved, state-owned enterprises that are attempting to use tourism as a funding mechanism to achieve improvements in the social and cultural fabric of the city for the benefit of residents. The paper concludes with an assessment of the implications of this example for our understanding of how the pressures for restructuring and commodification can be moderated at the city level. Revista Mulheres (1978-1989): um estudo em torno do feminismo e do comunismo

Este projecto de investigação teve como aspiração analisar as articulações e desconexões em torno das categorias de classe e género, em diálogo com a dicotomia igualdade versus diferença, e centrando-nos no estudo da revista da Mulheres. A história desta permite-nos compreender melhor as imagens dominantes da mulher portuguesa nos anos 80, sendo que o projecto da revista opera uma dupla recusa: por oposição ao passado, recusa-se a imagem da mulher conservadora vinculada pelo fascismo português e o catolicismo; e por oposição ao capitalismo, recusa-se a imagem da mulher «liberalizada». Neste sentido, procedemos numa primeira parte, à história da revista e do meio em que se relaciona. Numa segunda parte, procedemos a uma análise dos conteúdos da revista a partir das categorias de trabalho e cultura. E, finalmente numa terceira parte, desenvolvemos uma reflexão mais crítica sobre o sujeito «mulheres» e as representações na política. Abstract

Descontinuidades culturais das bolseiras angolanas em Cuba nas décadas de 1970 a 1990

Com a necessidade urgente de formar a nova geração na aquisição de conhecimentos científicos, culturais, habilidades e valores, Angola com a sua forte relação com o governo cubano apostou na formação de quadros a longo prazo. Provenientes das 18 províncias de Angola, com idades muito tenras, enraizadas com as suas culturas de origem, jovens angolanas foram literalmente sujeitas a desvincular-se precocemente dos seus rituais, hábitos e costumes. O presente estudo tem como objetivo determinar as principais causas que levaram a uma decadência total ou parcial das descontinuidades culturais destas bolseiras angolanas em Cuba, num determinado período histórico (de 1970 a 1990). Pretende, ainda, trazer ao conhecimento público esta situação educacional específica através, não só de um conhecimento do contexto angolano da época, como da voz de quem o viveu. Com este trabalho pretendemos, assim, contribuir para uma reflexão sobre as questões da cultura e da importância da mesma na educação dos jovens.
