Dual emissive borane-BODIPY dyads: molecular conformation control over electronic properties and fluorescence response towards fluoride ions

Facile synthesis of two new dimesitylboryl appended BODIPYs is reported. The two dyads have similar fluorescent chromophores but differ in their molecular conformations. They exhibit dual fluorescence, intramolecular energy transfer between boryl and BODIPY chromophores and different fluorescence responses (emission enhancement and quenching) upon fluoride binding.

Heterogeneous locational optimisation using a generalised Voronoi partition

In this paper a generalisation of the Voronoi partition is used for locational optimisation of facilities having different service capabilities and limited range or reach. The facilities can be stationary, such as base stations in a cellular network, hospitals, schools, etc., or mobile units, such as multiple unmanned aerial vehicles, automated guided vehicles, etc., carrying sensors, or mobile units carrying relief personnel and materials. An objective function for optimal deployment of the facilities is formulated, and its critical points are determined. The locally optimal deployment is shown to be a generalised centroidal Voronoi configuration in which the facilities are located at the centroids of the corresponding generalised Voronoi cells. The problem is formulated for more general mobile facilities, and formal results on the stability, convergence and spatial distribution of the proposed control laws responsible for the motion of the agents carrying facilities, under some constraints on the agents' speed and limit on the sensor range, are provided. The theoretical results are supported with illustrative simulation results.

RES-TOCSY: a simple approach to resolve overlapped H-1 NMR spectra of enantiomers

Chiral auxiliaries are used for the NMR spectroscopic study of enantiomers. Often the presence of impurities, overlap of peaks, line broadening and the multiplicity pattern restrict the chiral analysis in the 1D H-1 NMR spectrum. The present study introduces a simple 2D H-1 NMR experiment to unravel the overlapped spectrum. The experiment separates the spectra of enantiomers, thereby allowing the unambiguous assignment of all the coupled peaks and the measurement of enantiomeric excess (ee) from a single experiment even in combinatorial mixtures.

Conductivity studies on microwave synthesized glasses

Conductivity measurements have been made on x V O-2(5) - (100-x) 0.5 Na2O + 0.5 B2O3] (where 10 a parts per thousand currency sign x a parts per thousand currency sign 50) glasses prepared by using microwave method. DC conductivity (sigma) measurements exhibit temperature-and compositional-dependent trends. It has been found that conductivity in these glasses changes from the predominantly `ionic' to predominantly `electronic' depending upon the chemical composition. The dc conductivity passes through a deep minimum, which is attributed to network disruption. Also, this nonlinear variation in sigma (dc) and activation energy can be interpreted using ion-polaron correlation effect. Electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR) and impedance spectroscopic techniques have been used to elucidate the nature of conduction mechanism. The EPR spectra reveals, in least modified (25 Na2O mol%) glasses, conduction is due to the transfer of electrons via aliovalent vanadium sites, while in highly modified (45 Na2O mol%) glasses Na+ ion transport dominates the electrical conduction. For highly modified glasses, frequency-dependent conductivity has been analysed using electrical modulus formalism and the observations have been discussed.

Static Shape Control Employing Displacement-Stress Dual Criteria

An approach employing displacement-stress dual criteria for static shape control is presented. This approach is based on normal displacement control, and stress modification is considered in the whole optimization process to control high stress in the local domain. Analysis results show that not only is the stress reduced but al so that the controlled surface becomes smoother than before.

Caracterización y evaluación de seis híbridos y seis variedades de polinización libre de maíz (Zea mays L.) en El Viejo, Chinandega

Con el propósito de comparar materiales genéticos y contribuir al incremento de la producción de maíz, se desarrolló el presente estudio en la finca “La Frutalosa” en El Viejo, Chinandega. Se estableció un diseño en Bloques Completos al Azar con cuatro bloques y el factor estudio fueron 12 cultivares de maíz (híbridos: HQ-INTA 993, H-53, H-INTA 991, C-343, C-385, HS-56; sintéticos: NB-NUTR INTA, NB-6, NBS, NB-9043; criollos: MAICITO y MAIZON). Los resultados obtenidos fueron objetos de un análisis de varianza (ANDEVA), separación de medias según Tukey (∞=0.05), análisis de correlación y contrastes ortogonales. Los cultivares evaluados presentaron variación en la mayoría de los descriptores de crecimiento y desarrollo. Los materiales criollos obtuvieron mayor altura de planta que los híbridos y sintéticos. En promedio de rendimiento los sintéticos superaron a los criollos e híbridos. Los materiales de mayor rendimiento fueron MAIZON (3534.6 kg ha-1), NB-9043 (2964.8 kg ha-1) y HS-56 (2922.4 kg ha-1). La distancia apical se correlacionó de manera negativa con las variables peso de mazorca, longitud de mazorca y el rendimiento, lo que indica que la mayoría de los materiales evaluados de altos rendimientos tienen poca cobertura de mazorca.

A Pressure-Correction Method And Its Applications On An Unstructured Chimera Grid

In this paper, an unstructured Chimera mesh method is used to compute incompressible flow around a rotating body. To implement the pressure correction algorithm on unstructured overlapping sub-grids, a novel interpolation scheme for pressure correction is proposed. This indirect interpolation scheme can ensure a tight coupling of pressure between sub-domains. A moving-mesh finite volume approach is used to treat the rotating sub-domain and the governing equations are formulated in an inertial reference frame. Since the mesh that surrounds the rotating body undergoes only solid body rotation and the background mesh remains stationary, no mesh deformation is encountered in the computation. As a benefit from the utilization of an inertial frame, tensorial transformation for velocity is not needed. Three numerical simulations are successfully performed. They include flow over a fixed circular cylinder, flow over a rotating circular cylinder and flow over a rotating elliptic cylinder. These numerical examples demonstrate the capability of the current scheme in handling moving boundaries. 对蠕变不可压幂律非线性粘弹性材料中裂纹的时蠕变扩展进行了分析，为描述银纹带中的力学行为，假设在裂纹尖端邻域中断裂过程区中分布着阴抗裂纹张开的粘聚尖力σ_f,能过对均匀应力参考状态平凡解的摄动，将非线性粘弹性问题化成线性问题处理，对于幂指数n≈1的弱非线性情况得到了应力与位移表达式，提出断裂过程区局域能量判据，导出了裂纹孕育时间t~*与蠕变扩展率a的预测公式。

Adiabatic compression of plasma with purely toroidal rotation

A variational method is developed to find approximate solutions to the generalized Grad-Shafranov equations for an adiabatic compression of the plasma with toroidal rotation, via the expansion in Fourier series in poloidal angle of the flux surface coordinates. The numerical results, which are carried out by the present method and by the usual two-dimensional method for a static equilibrium state, agree well.

Nicolao de Mura, "Progumnásmata"

[ES] Los Ejercicios preparatorios (προγυμνάσματα, Progumnásmata, lat. Praexercitamina) de Nicolao de Mura fueron escritos en el siglo V d. C., de manera que son posteriores al de Teón (siglo I), al atribuido a Hermógenes (siglo II) y al de Aftonio (siglo IV). En este trabajo se publica la primera traducción al español de esta obra. Esta traducción está precedida de una Introducción y está comentada en notas; finalmente, se añade un léxico de los términos retóricos en ella utilizados.
