Mammary tumors are the most frequent cancers in dogs, representing about 50% of tumors, and have a higher incidence in females of middle aged and elderly. These tumors have been used as a model for breast cancer in women due to several common characteristics such as histological and immunohistochemical similarities. In the last decade, studies based on molecular profiles of breast cancer, made possible the identification of some neoplastic cells with characteristics of stem cells - cancer stem cells (CSC). One of the putative molecules of CSCs is CD44. Recent studies have established a crucial link between the epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT) and the acquisition of molecular and functional properties of stem cells. For that reason we analyzed the expression of proteins CD44, Cytokeratins AE1/AE3 and Vimentin, in dogs mammary tumors, to investigate the potencial for CSC markers, and its relation with the EMT using immunohistochemistry in paraffin embedded tissues making use of techniques such as Tissue MicroArrays (TMA). Immunostaining of cytokeratin had no significant difference between benign and malignant tumors (p ≥ 0,05), being more intense in malignant tumors. However vimentina showed higher staining intensity in benign tumors, but with no significant difference (p ≤ 0,05). The expression of CD44 was higher in malignant tumors that have greater proliferative and metastatic potencial, however its relation with EMT was not detected in the analyzed tumors. The techniques applied for the TMAs were efficient and can be used in routine and later researches.

The author examines whether and by which means the decisions handed down by the State judge giving his support to the arbitral proceeding (juge d'appui) may be appealed. Every relevant Article in the PILA (Private International Law Act) is addressed and analyzed in this regard (Art. 179(2) and (3), Art. 180(3), Art. 183(2), Art. 184(3) and Art. 185) by reference to the present legal doctrine and case law. Concerning the stages of appeal, the view is held that by direct or analogous application of Art. 356(2) CPC (Civil Procedure Code) the juge d'appui has jurisdiction as the sole instance of the Canton to render decisions in support of the arbitral tribunal. On the federal level however, the parties shall have the right to appeal against these decisions by filing a civil law appeal before the Swiss Federal Supreme Court, with the exception of most decisions given by juge d'appui within the meaning of Art. 180(3) PILA. As to this federal appeal, it is established that the case law of the Swiss Federal Supreme Court under the FTA (Act on the Federal Tribunal) indicates the Court's inclination to qualify both negative and positive decisions issued by the juge d'appui as final decisions in terms of Art. 90 FTA. In reference to the upcoming revision of the PILA's 12th Chapter the author concludes that the legislator might implement some clarifications in the current legal framework. It seems particularly advisable to ensure that all relevant Articles in the PILA regarding decisions of the juge d'appui explicitly reference to Art. 356(2) CPC. Moreover, the author is of the opinion that it would also be expedient to specify the

Project justification is regarded as one of the major methodological deficits in Data Warehousing practice. As reasons for applying inappropriate methods, performing incomplete evaluations, or even entirely omitting justifications, the special nature of Data Warehousing benefits and the large portion of infrastructure-related activities are stated. In this paper, the economic justification of Data Warehousing projects is analyzed, and first results from a large academiaindustry collaboration project in the field of non-technical issues of Data Warehousing are presented. As conceptual foundations, the role of the Data Warehouse system in corporate application architectures is analyzed, and the specific properties of Data Warehousing projects are discussed. Based on an applicability analysis of traditional approaches to economic IT project justification, basic steps and responsibilities for the justification of Data Warehousing projects are derived.

STIM1 and ORAI1 constitute the core machinery of the ubiquitous store-operated calcium entry pathway and loss of function in these proteins is associated with severe immune and muscular disorders. Other isoforms-STIM1L, STIM2, ORAI2 and ORAI3 exhibit varied expression levels in different cell types along with several other interaction partners and thereby play different roles to facilitate, regulate and fine-tune the calcium entry. STIM proteins convey the Ca(2+) store-depletion message to the PM and thereby participate in refilling of the ER by physically interacting with the Ca(2+)-selective ORAI channels at the PM. STIM and ORAI are exposed to oxidative modifications in the ER, the cytosol, and at the cell surface, and redox-mediated alterations in STIM/ORAI coupling might contribute to autoimmune disorders and cancer progression. This review discusses the redox reactivity of cysteine residues in STIM and ORAI isoforms, focusing on the oxidative modifications of STIM and ORAI proteins by which STIM-ORAI signaling can be modulated.

Tochilinite (approximately FeS(Mg,Fe)(OH)2) is locally abundant in Hole 1068A serpentinites from Cores 173-1068A-21R and 22R. It occurs in veins, as fillings in void space, and in intergrowths with serpentine and andradite. An apparently related mineral, but with Ca and Al largely replacing Mg, occurs in association with, and possibly as a replacement of, pyrrhotite in serpentinite breccias from the bottom of Core 173-1068A-20R. The transition from Mg-Fe-rich brucite tochilinites to Ca- and S-rich carbonate tochilinites is consistent with increasing sulfur and oxygen activity upsection. Tochilinite has been reported at other sites on the Iberia Abyssal Plain and is abundant to the point of being a rock-forming mineral in several samples from Site 1068. Rather than being a mineralogical curiosity, tochilinite appears to be common and a major sink for sulfur in the upper serpentinites of the Iberia Abyssal Plain.

Basal carbonate sediments recovered at Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Site 1149 lie directly on magnetic Anomaly M12. They contain abundant and moderately well preserved calcareous nannofossils. Two nannofossil zones are recognized: the lower Calcicalathina oblongata Zone and the upper Lithraphidites bollii Zone, indicating a late Valanginian-late Hauterivian age. The close occurrence of two significant bioevents, the first occurrence (FO) of L. bollii and the FO of Rucinolithus terebrodentarius in Core 185-1149B-20R, together with dip data recorded during in situ geophysical logging, suggest the presence of an unconformity that corresponds to the lower Hauterivian sedimentary section. The continuous occurrence of L. bollii is reported for the first time in sediments from the Pacific Ocean. Other marker species regarded as cosmopolitan (e.g., C. oblongata) have a sporadic occurrence. Nannoconids, very useful zonal markers for Tethyan areas, are virtually absent. The presence of an unusually high abundance of Diazomatolithus lehmanii is also recorded and correlates with the Valanginian 13C positive excursion.

The sediments of the Argo and Gascoyne abyssal plains are generally lean in organic matter, are immature, and contain hydrocarbons trapped during sediment deposition rather than those generated during sediment catagenesis. TOC concentrations in the Argo Abyssal Plain Cenozoic sediments are 0.5 wt%, and organic matter appears to be from mixed marine and reworked, degraded, organic matter sources, with the latter being contributed by turbidity flows from the nearby continental margin. TOC concentrations within the Cenozoic sediments of the Gascoyne Abyssal Plain are mostly undetectable (<0.1 wt%). Biomarker distributions determined by gas chromatography (GC) and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry (GCMS) indicate that organic matter extracted from the Lower Cretaceous sediments from both sites is predominantly marine with varying contributions from terrestrial organic matter. The specific marine biomarker, 24-n-propylcholestane is in relatively high abundance in all samples. In addition, the relatively high abundance of the 4-methylsteranes with the 23,24-dimethyl side chain (in all samples) indicates significant dinoflagellate contributions and marine organic matter. The ratios of n-C27/n-C17 reflect relative contributions of marine vs. terrestrial organic matter. TOC, while generally low at Argo, is relatively high near the Barremian/Aptian boundary (one sample has a TOC of 5.1 wt%) and the Aptian/Albian boundary (up to 1.3 wt% TOC), and two samples from the Barremian and Aptian sections contain relatively high proportions of terrestrial organic carbon. TOC values in the Lower Cretaceous sediments from Gascoyne Abyssal Plain are low (<0.1 wt%) near the Aptian/Barremian boundary. TOC values are higher in older sediments, with maxima in the upper Barremian (1.02 wt%), the Barremian/Hauterivian (0.6 wt%), and Valanginian (1.8 wt%). Sediments from the upper Barremian contain higher amounts of terrestrial organic carbon than older sediments.

The average total organic carbon (TOC) content obtained after Rock-Eval/TOC analysis of 156 sediment samples from the eight sites cored during Leg 135 is 0.05%. Hence, the TOC content of Leg 135 sediments is extremely low. The organic matter that is present in these samples is probably mostly reworked and oxidized material. Ten sediment samples were selected for extraction and analysis by gas chromatography and gas chromatography-mass spectrometry. Very low amounts of extractable hydrocarbons were obtained and some aspects of the biomarker distributions suggest that these hydrocarbons are not representative of the organic matter indigenous to the samples. A sample of an oil seep from Pili, Tongatapu was also analyzed. The seep is a biodegraded, mature oil that shows many characteristics in common with previously published analyses of oil seeps from Tongatapu. Biomarker evidence indicates that its source is a mature, marine carbonate of probable Late Cretaceous-Early Tertiary age. The source rock responsible for the Tongatapu oil seeps remains unknown.

Well-preserved radiolarian assemblages of late middle Miocene to early Pliocene age are found in Ocean Drilling Program (ODP) Hole 1138A (Cores 183-1138A-12R to 20R), which was rotary drilled into the Central Kerguelen Plateau. The faunas are typical for Antarctic assemblages of this time interval, and the site appears to have been south of the Polar Front during the time period studied. Despite only moderate drilling recovery of the section, most late middle to early Pliocene radiolarian zones are present, although at the sample resolution used, subzones could not be identified. A significant discontinuity in the section is present at the boundary between lithologic Units I and II (between Cores 183-1138A-12R and 13R), corresponding to an interval from at least 4.6 to 6.1 Ma. Mixed late Miocene-early Pliocene assemblages are seen in the base of Core 183-1138A-12R (Sample 183-1138A-12R-3, 20 cm), and the overlying basal Pliocene Tau Zone appears to be absent. It cannot be determined if the discontinuity is due to incomplete recovery of the section and drilling disturbance or if it reflects a primary sedimentary structure - a hiatus or interval of condensed sedimentation.

The course of sea-level fluctuations during Termination II (TII; the penultimate deglaciation), which is critical for understanding ice-sheet dynamics and suborbital climate variability, has yet to be established. This is partly because most shallow-water sequences encompassing TII were eroded during sea-level lowstands of the last glacial period or were deposited below the present sea level. Here we report a new sequence recording sea-level changes during TII in the Pleistocene sequence at Hole M0005D (water depth: 59.63 m below sea level [mbsl]) off Tahiti, French Polynesia, which was drilled during Integrated Ocean Drilling Program Expedition 310. Lithofacies variations and stratigraphic changes in the taxonomic composition, preservation states, and intraspecific test morphology of large benthic foraminifers indicate a deepening-upward sequence in the interval from Core 310-M0005D-26R (core depth: 134 mbsl) through -16R (core depth: 106 mbsl). Reconstruction of relative sea levels, based on paleodepth estimations using large benthic foraminifers, indicated a rise in sea level of about 90 m during this interval, suggesting its correlation with one of the terminations. Assuming that this rise in sea level corresponds to that during TII, after correcting for subsidence since the time of deposition, a highstand sea-level position would be 2 ± 15 m above present sea level (masl), which is generally consistent with highstand sea-level positions in MIS 5e (4 ± 2 masl). If this rise in sea level corresponds to that during older terminations, the subsidence-corrected highstand sea-level positions (30 ± 15 masl for Termination III and 54 ± 15 masl for Termination IV) are not consistent with reported ranges of interglacial sea-level highstands (-18 to 15 masl). Therefore, the studied interval likely records the rise in sea level and associated environmental changes during TII. In particular, the intervening cored materials between the two episodes of sea-level rise found in the studied interval might record the sea-level reversal event during TII. This conclusion is consistent with U/Th ages of around 133 ka, which were obtained from slightly diagenetically altered (i.e., < 1% calcite) in situ corals in the studied interval (Core 310-M0005D-20R [core depth: 118 mbsl]). This study also suggests that our inverse approach to correlate a stratigraphic interval with an approximate time frame could be useful as an independent check on the accuracy of uranium-series dating, which has been applied extensively to fossil corals in late Quaternary sea-level studies.
