Identifying the Role of Final Consumption in Structural Path Analysis: An Application to Water Uses

The complexity of the connexions within an economic system can only be reliably reflected in academic research if powerful methods are used. Researchers have used Structural Path Analysis (SPA) to capture not only the linkages within the production system but also the propagation of the effects into different channels of impacts. However, the SPA literature has restricted itself to showing the relations among sectors of production, while the connections between these sectors and final consumption have attracted little attention. In order to consider the complete set of channels involved, in this paper we propose a structural path method that endogenously incorporates not only sectors of production but also the final consumption of the economy. The empirical application comprises water usages, and analyses the dissemination of exogenous impacts into various channels of water consumption. The results show that the responsibility for water stress is imputed to different sectors and depends on the hypothesis used for the role played by final consumption in the model. This highlights the importance of consumers’ decisions in the determination of ecological impacts. Keywords: Input-Output Analysis, Structural Path Analysis, Final Consumption, Water uses.

Les arts plàstiques com a cura pal·liativa a l'etapa final de la vida

Aquest projecte pretén fer una proposta d’intervenció d’arts plàstiques a unitats de cures pal·liatives amb malalts terminals. Per tal d’acompanyar la dimensió espiritual de la persona que està passant per un procés de final de la seva pròpia vida. Sobretot s’ha creat un discurs a través de molta recerca i investigació, el qual es pot adequar a la importància de la incorporació de l’educador social a l’equip multidisciplinari d’aquestes unitats hospitalàries. L’objectiu principal és afavorir una millor qualitat de vida, retrobar-se amb el sentit de la vida, poder reconciliar-se i acomiadar-se a través de les obres plàstiques. Tal i com diu la pel·lícula “El intocable” (2013): “¿Porque la gente se interesa por el arte? – Porque es la única huella de nuestro paso por LaTierra.”

El paleolític superior final de la cova del Parco (Alòs de Balaguer, la Noguera)

Amb aquest treball donem a conèixer els resultats obtinguts fins avui referents al Magdalenià superior final i Magdalenià superior de la cova del Parco. Tant per la naturalesa i els usos de les llars, com per les evidències de captació de recursos abiòtics i biòtics i els tractaments dels mateixos hem definit les ocupacions d"aquest període com campaments o estatges de caràcter temporal, però d"una certa durada, segurament estacional.

Comensalitat durant el bronze final i la primera edat del ferro al paratge arqueològic de Can Roqueta: anàlisi dels dipòsits relacionats amb el consum en contextos domèstics i funeraris

La reconstrucció de les pautes de consum d"aliments durant el bronze final i la primera edat de ferro, tant si són de caire domèstic com si no, passa per un anàlisi exhaustiu de les diferents dades arqueològiques. En primer lloc, tenim els espais destinats al consum. Les circumstàncies pròpies del registre arqueològic a Catalunya durant aquests períodes fa que, depèn del territori, aquest nivell d"anàlisi sigui més o menys evident. Així, en territoris on existeix una tradició arquitectònica en pedra i, fins i tot, dissenys urbanístics ben definits (entorn del Segre i l"Ebre), aquest problema resulta relativament fàcil de tractar en funció de la conservació de la resta d"elements i la particularitat de les estructures analitzades. Això ha permès caracteritzar certes pràctiques.de consum diferenciades del que podria ser propi d"un àmbit domèstic en jaciments com Barranc de Gàfols (habitacions 1 y 2), la Moleta del Remei (habitació 7), Tossal Redó (habitació 1), San Cristóbal (habitació 2), Sant Jaume Mas d"en Serrà (habitacions 3 i 4), l"edifici de Turó del Calvari de Vilalba dels Arcs o Genó (habitació 2) (Lucas 1989; López Cachero 1998; Sanmartí et al. 2000; Fatás 2004-05; Garcia 2005; Sardà 2008). Aquesta situació contrasta amb el que passa a la resta del litoral català on les estructures negatives són pràcticament l"única evidència del poblament existent i on resulta molt complicat, fins i tot, la documentació de qualsevol espai habitacional que ens permeti avançar en aquesta direcció.

Beneficial effects of word final stress in segmenting a new language: evidence from ERPs

Background: How do listeners manage to recognize words in an unfamiliar language? The physical continuity of the signal, in which real silent pauses between words are lacking, makes it a difficult task. However, there are multiple cues that can be exploited to localize word boundaries and to segment the acoustic signal. In the present study, word-stress was manipulated with statistical information and placed in different syllables within trisyllabic nonsense words to explore the result of the combination of the cues in an online word segmentation task. Results: The behavioral results showed that words were segmented better when stress was placed on the final syllables than when it was placed on the middle or first syllable. The electrophysiological results showed an increase in the amplitude of the P2 component, which seemed to be sensitive to word-stress and its location within words. Conclusion: The results demonstrated that listeners can integrate specific prosodic and distributional cues when segmenting speech. An ERP component related to word-stress cues was identified: stressed syllables elicited larger amplitudes in the P2 component than unstressed ones.

Efectividad de la intervención psicosocial en pacientes con enfermedad avanzada y final de vida

Objetivos: Demostrar la efectividad de la intervención psicosocial en la atención integral a personas con enfermedades avanzadas. Método: Se ha evaluado la presencia y evolución de parámetros psicológicos y espirituales de 8.964 pacientes, visitados por 117 profesionales de 29 equipos en un estudio de diseño cuasi-experimental, prospectivo, multcéntrico de un solo grupo pre-test post-test. Resultados: Los resultados muestran mejoras significativas en parámetros como ansiedad (RL 657,64; p<0,001), malestar emociona (RL 757,44; p<0,001), sentido de la vida (RL 248,30; p<0,001) y sentimientos de paz y perdón (RL 190,94; p<0,001). Conclusiones: El efecto positivo de la intervención psicosocial en la reducción de los parámetros psicológicos y espirituales evaluados sugiere que esta es eficaz en el contexto de la atención a personas con enfermedades avanzadas.

Recherche sur la sexualité en Suisse : rapport final

L'OFSP et la Commission de contrôle de la recherche sur le sida ont mandaté l'IUMSP pour un bilan de la situation actuelle en matière de recherche sur la sexualité en Suisse et à l'étranger. Le présent document présente une revue de la littérature internationale et Suisse, une revue des recherches menées en Suisse allemande (en allemand) ainsi qu'une présentation des grandes enquêtes de population réalisées à l'étranger, un résumé des travaux de Cartigny, une liste des institutions et chercheurs prêts à collaborer à un programme de recherche sur la sexualité.

Necrópolis de incineración y prácticas funerarias en el noreste de la Penínnsula Ibérica durante el Bronce Final y la Primera Edad del Hierro

[spa]En este artículo presentamos un estado de la cuestión sobre las necrópolis de incineración del Bronce Final y Primera Edad del Hierro en el noreste peninsular. Para ello, analizamos el ritual funerario, la organización interna de las necrópolis y muy especialmente su arquitectura funeraria para, en base a ella, caracterizar el proceso de regionalización que se observa en el territorio.

Programme cantonal diabète dans le canton de Vaud indicateurs pour le suivi et le baromètre : rapport final

Le Programme cantonal Diabète souhaite collecter des indicateurs afin d'objectiver son suivi et produire un Baromètre Diabète Vaud qui serait publié et distribué périodiquement à un public large. Ce rapport présente les indicateurs suggérés par l'IUMSP, mandaté afin d'établir une liste raisonnée d'indicateurs sur le diabète pour le canton de Vaud. La sélection d'indicateurs s'est faite d'après plusieurs critères, parmi lesquels la disponibilité des indicateurs actuelle et à long terme, ainsi que leur pertinence avérée par la littérature. Ce rapport décrit les résultats pour les indicateurs sélectionnés, ainsi que les informations nécessaires à leur compréhension : source, fréquence de mise à disposition, méthode de calcul, limites, références éventuelles. Parmi les indicateurs décrits dans ce rapport, certains sont proposés comme spécialement pertinents à inclure dans le futur Baromètre Diabète Vaud. Aussi, une suggestion de présentation de ces indicateurs (fiches descriptives) est articulée pour ce dernier.

Sociedad y economia durante el Bronce final y la Primera edad del Hierro en el noreste peninsular: una aproximacion a partir de las evidencias arqueologicas.

A finales de la Edad del Bronce comienzan a producirse importantes transformaciones en el seno de las comunidades del noreste peninsular que tendrán continuidad durante los siglos VII y VI ANE y que se caracterizarán por la paulatina formación de una clase aristocrática de carácter guerrero. Sin embargo, esta élite no se consolidará definitivamente en el poder hasta el ibérico antiguo, constituyéndose así la estructura social sobre la que se desarrollarán los estados arcaicos durante el ibérico pleno.

Study of D J meson decays to D +π-, D 0π+ and D ∗+π- final states in pp collisions

A study of D +π−, D 0π+ and D ∗+π− final states is performed using pp collision data, corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 1.0 fb−1, collected at a centre-of-mass energy of 7 TeV with the LHCb detector. The D 1(2420)0 resonance is observed in the D ∗+π− final state and the D∗2(2460) resonance is observed in the D +π−, D 0π+ and D ∗+π− final states. For both resonances, their properties and spin-parity assignments are obtained. In addition, two natural parity and two unnatural parity resonances are observed in the mass region between 2500 and 2800 MeV. Further structures in the region around 3000 MeV are observed in all the D ∗+π−, D +π− and D 0π+ final states.

Neoadjuvant chemotherapy and extrapleural pneumonectomy (EPP) of malignant pleural mesothelioma (MPM) with or without hemithoracic radiotherapy: final results of the randomized multicenter phase II trial SAKK17/04.

Aim: We have previously documented the feasibility of neoadjuvant chemotherapy and EPP in a multicenter trial of MPM (Weder, Ann Oncol 18: 1196, 2007). The objectives of the trimodality trial SAKK17/04 (NCT00334594) were to evaluate the time to loco-regional relapse with or without high dose hemithoracic radiotherapy in a prospective multicenter randomized phase II trial in patients with R0 and R1 resection after neoadjuvant chemotherapy and EPP. Methods: Eligible patients had pathologically confirmed MPM, surgically resectable TNM stage (T1-3 N0-2 M0), PS0-1, ages 18-70 years. Part 1 had a phase II design, and included neoadjuvant chemotherapy with 3 cycles of cisplatin and pemetrexed, followed by restaging and EPP. The primary endpoint of part 1 was complete macroscopic resection (R0-1). Part 2 randomized consenting patients with R0-1 resection into two parallel phase II arms (control arm A and radiotherapy arm B). The primary endpoint for part 2 was loco-regional relapse-free survival (RFS). To detect a 1 year increase with 80% power and 10% alpha, 37 patients were needed for arm B. Secondary endpoints included operability, tolerability of chemotherapy and radiotherapy, survival, and translational research Results: Because accrual of part 2 was slower than planned, the trial was stopped in 2013. Overall, 153 patients entered the trial, of whom 125 underwent surgery and 99 had a complete macroscopic resection (primary endpoint part 1). Of the later patients, 54 could be randomized 1:1 into each arm. Reasons for non-randomization included patient refusal in 24 and ineligibility or protocol deviations in 21. Of the 27 patients randomized to hemithoracic radiotherapy, 25 completed the treatment as planned. For part 1 the median RFS was 8.8 (95%CI: 7.3-10.7) and median OS was 15.0 (95% CI: 12.1-19.3) months. For part 2 the median local RFS for group A was 7.6 (95%CI: 5.5-10.7) and for group B 9.4 (95%CI: 6.5-11.9) months (primary endpoint part 2), while the overall RFS and OS for group A were 5.7 (95%CI: 3.5-8.8) and 16.9 (95%CI: 10.7-23.6) months and for group B 7.6 (95% CI:5.2-10.6) and 14.9 (95%CI: 7.0-17.6) months. Conclusions: This study did not reach the primary endpoint which was defined as one-year increase in loco-regional relapse-free survival and thus does not support the routine use of hemithoracic RT after neoadjuvant chemotherapy and EPP.
