Rene Molinier (Paris 1 juny 1899 - Marsella 20 juny 1975)

Fili de pares occitans, nasqué accidentalment a Paris i passa la infantesa a Algeria, on el seu pare era funcionari. Feu estudis a l'escola normal de Tolosa de Llenguadoc i exerci com a mestre. Més tard fou professor a l'Escola Primària Superior Professional de Rodez. En aquesta situació prepara la llicenciatura en ciències naturals a la Universität de Tolosa. El 1946 entra com a encarregat de curs a la Universität de Marsella, de la qual esdevingué professor titular el 1958. Ensenyà en aquesta Universität fins a la jubilació, l'any 1969.

This is the second issue of Geologica Acta dedicated to the memory of Professor Francesc Calvet, who passed away in January 2002. Francesc was a man with great human qualities, a distinguished scientist and an inspiring teacher who was held in high esteem by all those who knew him. The first volume contained six papers on specific areas of research in which Francesc was engaged, and a biography (Geologica Acta, volume 2, Nº 4, 2004). This second volume is made up of contributions by colleagues and former students who wish to salute Francesc Calvet as an outstanding geologist and teacher. The papers included in this volume are also subjects in which Francesc was closely involved.

This is YOUR Highway Commission,1968

Before the Iowa Department of Transportation (DOT) was established by legislation in July 1974, there were several state agencies that handled the tasks that are now the responsibility of an integrated, multimodal Iowa DOT. Among those agencies was the Iowa State Highway Commission (IHC). You are invited to read a brief history of the Iowa DOT here:http://www.iowadot.gov/about/organizationalhistory.htm The IHC operated as an independent state agency between 1913 and 1974. In 1968, the IHC created and released This is YOUR Highway Commission, a 24 ½- minute film that showcased the responsibilities and functions of the IHC. The narrator describes the activities of various offices and employees, and explains how those activities benefited Iowa’s citizens and motorists. The film journeys through all areas of IHC responsibility to Iowa’s roadways, including administration, planning, design, bidding, right of way, materials, construction, maintenance and facilities. As part of the Iowa DOT’s effort to preserve and archive its historical resources, the original 16mm film was professionally cleaned, restored and digitized so that it could be made available via this website. The Iowa DOT is currently researching and compiling information necessary to prepare detailed biographies of the IHC employees identified in the film. Included in each biography will be still frames taken from the film, as well as other images from the Iowa DOT’s archives. This more comprehensive description of the film will be available in the future. In the meantime, below is a list of the IHC employees who have been identified. The list is arranged in the order in which each employee first appears in the film. There remain numerous unidentified employees in the film, and the Iowa DOT would greatly appreciate any assistance in identifying them. Geographic variation of the greater white-toothed shrew (Crocidura russula Hermann, 1780 Mammalia, Soricidae)

A multivariate morphometric study of the Greater white-toothed shrew (C. russula) throughout its Palearctic range was carried out to search for patterns of geographic variation within the species boundary. Burnaby's and multiple group principal component analysis allowed the adjustment of raw data with respect to within-sample allometric variation. Multivariate 'size-free' results show a stepped dine with the phenotypical trait reduction and shape change from the eastern to the western Maghreb. Pleistocene fossil mandibles proved to have low phenetic distances with eastern populations (Tunisia, east Algeria) and it is argued that their character set is the primitive condition. The ancestral Mid-Pleistocene shrews lived in a relatively more humid climate. Gee-climatic changes in the north African range during the Quaternary provoked phenetic variation of C. russula and, it can be argued, evolution of the modern western C.r. yebalensis. A historical process can thus be assumed as the main cause of this categorical variation, by segmentation of the species range due to gee-climatic events. Morphometric discontinuity within the C. russula Maghreb range is shown to be congruent with karyological and biochemical studies. Moroccan and Tunisian shrews differ, for example, in NFa chromosomes and electrophoretical traits. A stasipatric process should be invoked to explain categorical variation in the Maghreb range. Colonization and divergence of insular populations results in more or less differentiated geographic races. The populations of Ibiza and Pantelleria are close to the species threshold (Nei's D greater than or equal to 0.1). The process of speciation undergone by the Greater white-toothed shrew results in a complex pattern of geographic variation, including both allopatric and non-allopatric modes.

An attempt is made to provide most of the information needed to catalog each title including the Iowa-related subject headings, and the joint authors, artists and series titles pertinent to the bibliography. These items are included at the bottom of the entry as numbered “tracings” and are a record of the items included in the indexes. L’article pretén ser, alhora, un punt i a part en el monogràfic, perquè en vol recollir alguns dels interrogants, debats i conclusions, com també tenir un paper introductori per a aquelles persones que, sense gaires coneixements previs sobre l’autor de Breslau, vulguin conèixer alguns dels trets definitoris de la seva trajectòria intel·lectual al llarg del segle XX.
