Seeking new ways to be used in the process of teaching and learning, he turned a look at alternative lines of research, going to value the arts in education, and inside, there has been a major focus of the relationship to both the theater and education. Currently, the theater has been the subject of research in education and has been also widely used as an educational resource, and its adoption by professionals is based on studies showing the contributions of the theater to child development. The theater, while playing, artistic expression and involves imagination, creation and sociability. This paper presents child development in all its phases, the importance of games, especially the symbolic games, during this process, through the perspective of Jean Piaget, a brief history of the theater within the education and the contributions actuallyits use as methodology of teaching and learning brings to children's development of the early years of elementary school, bringing the discussion as teachers' perception about the real possibility of its use in schools as a way of teaching and learning. This research aimed to understand the dialogic relationship between theater and basic education, emphasizing its most striking features, emphasize its presence in the teaching and learning in basic education, focusing on the early years of primary education; see how the skills developed with drama can help develop cognitive, psychological, social and moral development of children, performing an initial survey on the possibilities of using the theater within the lesson plans for teachers in the first grade of elementary school and learn the opinions of professional education on theresearch subject, being held with four teachers who teach in the first years of elementary education at a public school in Santa Cruz do Rio Pardo, ...(Complete abstract click electronic address below)

During the pregnancy process, the maternal organism commonly undergoes changes. Such changes follow the normal course of pregnancy; however, some maternal or fetal factors can interfere with pregnancy and adversely affect its outcomes, thus triggering what is referred to as high-risk pregnancy, which is responsible for increasing maternal, fetal or newborns’ morbimortality rates1,2. One of the obstetric alternatives for a safe resolution of this pregnancy type is the caesarean section. Nevertheless, an expressive increase in the number of caesarean sections has been observed worldwide, and they are, many times, unnecessarily indicated8. The world Health Organization (WHO) recommends that the total number of caesarean sections in relation to the total number of deliveries performed at health service should be a maximum of 15% 11, a limit that is easily surpassed in various services. To outline the epidemiological profile of pregnant women submitted to caesarean sections at a reference health care service in the city of Botucatu-SP. This is a cross-sectional, retrospective, exploratory, descriptive, quantitative study. The target population consisted of one hundred pregnant women assisted in this institution, who had been submitted to caesarean sections in 2010 and were randomly selected to compose the sample. In the analyzed period, there were 1,189 deliveries, of which 601 (50.5%) were natural deliveries, 588 (49.4%) were caesarean sections. As regards maternal age, 76% were in the age range of 19 to 36 years. A high percentage of patients (27%) had not completed elementary education and did not have a paid job; 67% were homemakers. Most of the participants were married (56%); 34% of the women were primiparas, but 19% were in their fourth or more pregnancies. Concerning prenatal care, little was found, since many of them had consultations out of the institution which were not recorded... (Complete abstract click electronic access below)

In the current context of lexicographical studies, there have been increasing discussions concerning the issue of the relationship between theoretical knowledge of the lexicon and pedagogical practices involved in its teaching. However, in this context, the special lexicon of Portuguese such as neologisms, foreign words, slang and idioms has received little attention from researchers. There are many theoretical studies on each one of these phenomena, but few studies aim at an organization and inclusion of special units in the teaching of Portuguese. For this reason, this article presents a reflection on the teaching of idioms, and, despite the widely held belief that dictionaries are only needed for the teaching of foreign languages, the article suggests the implementation of special dictionaries for the teaching of Portuguese Language in elementary education.

Environmental education (EE), a critical component to face the environmental crisis, must be present in formal education in a continuous, permanent and transversal way. Studies show, however, that EE occurs, often, in a sporadic and discontinuous way, and that it is mainly linked to Sciences. The objective of this study was to investigate the inclusion of environmental subjects in the Political Pedagogical Project (PPP) of a rural school, in Araraquara, SP. Through documentary analysis of the PPP, proposals for the Environmental Education for the last years of elementary education were examined. The results allowed the understanding, in a complex and contextualized way, of aspects related to the presence of environmental subjects in the school curriculum. They reveal that the suggestion of working with Environment attend the recommendations of the conference of Tbilisi and of Brazilian National Curriculum (PCN).

This study, based on the model of Positive Behavior Support, aims to identify how 40 primary school directors describe the process of development, application, and evaluation of educational strategies for pupils with behavioral problems. The results from a questionnaire indicated that 77.5% of the directors had pupils with behavioral problems. The most commonly used educational strategies of intervention were to speak with the child (13.3%) or with the parents (13.3%). The most common action for evaluation was observation of the child (27.6%). In general, the study verified that the strategies were employed informally and unsystematically. These findings indicate that research about the inclusion of children with behavioral problems is needed and challenge to rethink about the educators professional training.

In humans, psychic and motor skills are interdependent, and therefore, cannot fail to take into account the influence of a good psychomotor development in the prevention of learning difficulties. Another factor that interferes with the learning process is the social. Family problems, socioeconomic status of the child, among others, may be associated with learning difficulties and, consequently, the student's performance. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate through the elements of psychomotor, if a delay in neuropsychomotor development may be related to the presence of learning problems in children entering elementary school. Also, determine whether there were differences regarding the presence or absence of these difficulties in students from middle and low social class and have family problems or not. For this, we analyzed two classes of 49 students from 1 year of elementary education at a public school in the city of Bauru/SP, aged between 6 and 7 years. These students were tested for the ENE proposed by Lefèvre (1976) to assess the maturity of the nervous system. A pre-designed questionnaire was answered by the teachers of classes to know students' academic performance, learning difficulties presented by them, social status and the presence of family problems. All students participating in the survey had the term sheet signed by the parents, allowing participation in the study. To reach the results, we applied the Anova and Tukey test for comparison analysis of mean age in the performance of ENE. To investigate the existence of a relationship between performance in the ENE and learning difficulties, we used the calculation of Pearson correlation. To analyze the difference in average scores of learning disabilities in students from different social classes and among those who had family problems or not, comparative graphs were used with the averages obtained from the questionnaire answered by the teachers for each learning...

Current response to intervention models (RTIs) favor a three-tier system. In general, Tier 1 consists of evidence-based, effective reading instruction in the classroom and universal screening of all students at the beginning of the grade level to identify children for early intervention. Non-responders to Tier 1 receive small-group tutoring in Tier 2. Nonresponders to Tier 2 are given still more intensive, individual intervention in Tier 3. Limited time, personnel and financial resources derail RTI's implementation in Brazilian schools because this approach involves procedures that require extra time and extra personnel in all three tiers, including screening tools which normally consist of tasks administered individually. We explored the accuracy of collectively and easily administered screening tools for the early identification of second graders at risk for dyslexia in a two-stage screening model. A first-stage universal screening based on collectively administered curriculum-based measurements was used in 45 7 years old early Portuguese readers from 4 second-grade classrooms at the beginning of the school year and identified an at-risk group of 13 academic low-achievers. Collectively administered tasks based on phonological judgments by matching figures and figures to spoken words [alternative tools for educators (ATE)] and a comprehensive cognitive-linguistic battery of collective and individual assessments were both administered to all children and constituted the second-stage screening. Low-achievement on ATE tasks and on collectively administered writing tasks (scores at the 25th percentile) showed good sensitivity (true positives) and specificity (true negatives) to poor literacy status defined as scores <= 1 SD below the mean on literacy abilities at the end of fifth grade. These results provide implications for the use of a collectively administered screening tool for the early identification of children at risk for dyslexia in a classroom setting.
