Probabilistic Prediction based Scheduling for Delay Sensitive Traffic in Internet of Things

This paper proposes a probabilistic prediction based approach for providing Quality of Service (QoS) to delay sensitive traffic for Internet of Things (IoT). A joint packet scheduling and dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme is proposed to provide service differentiation and preferential treatment to delay sensitive traffic. The scheduler focuses on reducing the waiting time of high priority delay sensitive services in the queue and simultaneously keeping the waiting time of other services within tolerable limits. The scheme uses the difference in probability of average queue length of high priority packets at previous cycle and current cycle to determine the probability of average weight required in the current cycle. This offers optimized bandwidth allocation to all the services by avoiding distribution of excess resources for high priority services and yet guaranteeing the services for it. The performance of the algorithm is investigated using MPEG-4 traffic traces under different system loading. The results show the improved performance with respect to waiting time for scheduling high priority packets and simultaneously keeping tolerable limits for waiting time and packet loss for other services. Green Nanosilver as Reinforcing Eco-Friendly Additive to Epoxy Coating for Augmented Anticorrosive and Antimicrobial Behavior

Epoxy resin GY250 representing diglycidyl ethers of bisphenol-A (DGEBA) was reinforced with 1, 3 and 5 wt % of surface functionalized silver nanoparticles (F-AgNPs) which were synthesized using Couroupita guianensis leaves extract with a view of augmenting the corrosion control property of the epoxy resin and also imparting antimicrobial activity to epoxy coatings on mild steel. Corrosion resistance of the coatings was evaluated by EIS, potentiodynamic polarization studies and cross scratch tests. AFM, SEM, HRTEM and EDX were utilized to investigate the surface topography, morphology and elemental composition of the coatings on MS specimens. Results showed that the corrosion resistance, hardness and T-g of the DGEBA/F-AgNPs coatings increased at 1 wt % of F-AgNPs. The DGEBA/F-AgNPs coatings also offered manifold antimicrobial protection to the MS surfaces by inhibiting the growth of biofilm forming bacteria like P. aeruginosa, B. subtilis, the most common human pathogen E. coli and the most virulent human pathogenic yeast C. albicans.

Growth and optical properties of peculiar ZnO tetrapods

Regular ZnO tetrapods with different morphologies have been obtained on Si(100) substrate via the chemical vapour deposition approach. Varying the growth temperature and gas rate, we have obtained different structured ZnO materials: tetrapods with a large hexagonal crown, a flat top and a small hexagonal crown. The results suggest that these tetrapods are all single crystals with a wurtzite structure that grow along the (0001) direction. However, photoluminescence spectra shows that their optical properties are quite different: for those with large hexagonal crown, the green emission overwhelms that of the near band-edge (NBE) ultraviolet (UV) peak, while others have only a strong NBE UV peak at ~386 nm.

Resumen: Las relaciones entre el condado de Portugal y el reino de León en la segunda mitad del siglo XII únicamente pueden ser entendidas en el contexto de fronteras entre ambos territorios, el tipo de dominio indirecto leonés, pero siempre marcando jurisdicción efectiva, las relaciones de parentesco entre las hijas y los nietos de Alfonso VI de León, y el papado romano en el ejercicio de su auctoritas. Esta ponencia da un nuevo punto de vista a la consolidación del reino de Portugal, dentro del ámbito del Imperium legionense, y de la definitiva separación e independencia del territorio lusitano de la Corona de León.

Espectáculos cortesanos en la América española del siglo XVII : las fiestas como caso para el análisis de la relación entre la Corte y la Corte virreinal

La Corte madrileña de los Austrias, al igual que el resto de las monarquías europeas del siglo XVII, generó una variada gama de fiestas públicas y privadas, como por ejemplo teatro musical, mascaradas y procesiones callejeras en las que desfilaban carros alegóricos con danzantes y músicos. Estos espectáculos no eran un mero entretenimiento sino que estaban destinados a resaltar las virtudes del monarca y a hacer conscientes a los espectadores del lugar que les cabía ocupar en esa sociedad recurriendo para ello a un complejo discurso simbólico. Las Cortes virreinales de América trasladaron a sus territorios estas prácticas que valían, fundamentalmente, para hacer presente la figura del rey y mantener viva la lealtad a la corona. Analizamos dos ejemplos de fiesta, una mascarada celebrada en Pausa (Perú) y un intermedio dramáticomusical en Sucre, que nos revelan la forma de pensamiento, las conductas y la organización de la sociedad cortesana virreinal.

The CU-HTK Mandarin broadcast news transcription system

This paper discusses the development of the CU-HTK Mandarin Broadcast News (BN) transcription system. The Mandarin BN task includes a significant amount of English data. Hence techniques have been investigated to allow the same system to handle both Mandarin and English by augmenting the Mandarin training sets with English acoustic and language model training data. A range of acoustic models were built including models based on Gaussianised features, speaker adaptive training and feature-space MPE. A multi-branch system architecture is described in which multiple acoustic model types, alternate phone sets and segmentations can be used in a system combination framework to generate the final output. The final system shows state-of-the-art performance over a range of test sets. ©2006 British Crown Copyright.

Variation Of Flexural Strength Of Cement Mortar Attacked By Sulfate Ions

Under the environment of seawater, durability of concrete materials is one of the chief factors considered in the design of structures. The decrease of durability of structures is induced by the evolution of micro-damage due to the erosion of chlorine and sulfate ions, which is characterized by the reduction of modulus, strength, and toughness of the material. In this paper, the variation of the flexural strength of cement mortar under sulfate erosion is investigated. The results obtained in present work indicate that the erosion time, concentration of sulfate solution, and water-to-cement ratio will significantly affect the flexural strength. La segunda coronación de la Virgen de Luján : robo de la corona y peregrinación de desagravio (1897)

Resumen: En el presente artículo el autor se ocupa de reseñar las circunstancias que rodearon el robo de la corona de la Virgen de Luján, bendecida por el papa León XIII en 1887. Diez años después de la solemne fiesta de la coronación pontificia esta primorosa joya, confeccionada por el acreditado orfebre parisino Poussielgue-Rusand, fue sustraída del camarín donde se veneraba la Sagrada Imagen. La recuperación y restitución motivó la organización de una multitudinaria peregrinación al Santuario de Luján que puso de manifiesto la profunda devoción del pueblo argentino a su Patrona.

La Basílica Nacional de Luján : el proyecto de su construcción (1887-1890)

Resumen: Con motivo de conmemorarse los 125 años de la coronación pontificia de la Imagen de Ntra. Sra. de Luján, Patrona de la República Argentina, el autor recorre la historia de los distintos oratorios, capillas y templos que le han sido dedicados, desde 1630, año del milagro, deteniéndose en los comienzos de la construcción de la monumental Basílica neogótica, reconocida como una de las más importantes de América en su tipo. El proyecto, en cuanto al diseño y desarrollo, corresponde al P. Jorge María Salvaire, vicentino, con el permanente apoyo del arzobispo de Buenos Aires, monseñor Federico León Aneiros. La mencionada Basílica guarda particular importancia histórica y pastoral en razón de albergar en su camarín la Imagen original de Ntra. Sra. de Luján, una pequeña talla de la Inmaculada Concepción, de arcilla cocida y pintada, vestida luego a la usanza española y con corona.

Measuring Binding Kinetics Of Surface-Bound Molecules Using The Surface Plasmon Resonance Technique

Surface plasmon resonance (SPR) technology and the Biacore biosensor have been widely used to measure the kinetics of biomolecular interactions in the fluid phase. In the past decade, the assay was further extended to measure reaction kinetics when two counterpart molecules are anchored on apposed surfaces. However, the cell binding kinetics has not been well quantified. Here we report development of a cellular kinetic model, combined with experimental procedures for cell binding kinetic measurements, to predict kinetic rates per cell. Human red blood cells coated with bovine serum albumin and anti-BSA monoclonal antibodies (mAbs) immobilized on the chip were used to conduct the measurements. Sensor-grams for BSA-coated RBC binding onto and debinding from the anti-BSA mAb-immobilized chip were obtained using a commercial Biacore 3000 biosensor, and analyzed with the cellular kinetic model developed. Not only did the model fit the data well, but it also predicted cellular on and off-rates as well as binding affinities from curve fitting. The dependence of flow duration, flow rate, and site density of BSA on binding kinetics was tested systematically, which further validated the feasibility and reliability of the new approach. Wave propagation and the frequency domain Green's functions in viscoelastic Biot/squirt (BISQ) media

In this paper, we examine the characteristics of elastic wave propagation in viscoelastic porous media, which contain simultaneously both the Biot-flow and the squirt-flow mechanisms (BISQ). The frequency-domain Green's functions for viscoelastic BISQ media are then derived based on the classic potential function methods. Our numerical results show that S-waves are only affected by viscoelasticity, but not by squirt-flows. However, the phase velocity and attenuation of fast P-waves are seriously influenced by both viscoelasticity and squirt-flows; and there exist two peaks in the attenuation-frequency variations of fast P-waves. In the low-frequency range, the squirt-flow characteristic length, not viscoelasticity, affects the phase velocity of slow P-waves, whereas it is opposite in the high-frequency range. As to the contribution of potential functions of two types of compressional waves to the Green's function, the squirt-flow length has a small effect, and the effects of viscoelastic parameter are mainly in the higher frequency range. Las contribuciones vascas a la Hacienda Real en la Edad Moderna: Algunos contrastes provinciales

E1 primero, ofrecer una panorámica general sobre las contribuciones fiscales de las Provincias Vascas a la Corona durante el Antiguo Régimen,resaltando las diferencias que en ese orden existían entre las tres.El segundo,situar las demandas fiscales regias en el origen de las haciendas provinciales vascas,estableciendo los distintos ritmos que se siguieron en su conformación entre los siglos XVII y XVIII, hasta alcanzar una mayor homologación ya en 1a centuria siguiente.

La pena de muerte en la Corona de Castilla en la Edad Media

[ES]A lo largo de este artículo se pasan revista a cinco cuentiones que muestran la evolución de la pena de muerte en la Corona de Castilla a lo largo de la Edad Media. En primer lugar, se presta atención al paso de la ejecución privada de la justicia a la pública y en qué casos se mantuvo la venganza, aunque con la autorización judicial. En segundo lugar, se pasa revista a las formas de aplicar la pena de muerte, privilegiando los siguientes tipos: el ahorcamiento por los pies, el asaeteamiento, el empozamiento y el encubamiento. En tercer lugar, se expone el ritual de ejecución de las penas capitales desde que el reo sale de la cárcel y es conducido al cadalso, hasta que el cuerpo es sepultado o queda expuesto a perpetuidad. En cuarto lugar, se reflexiona sobre la incidencia de la rebeldía o contumacia del acusado ante los requerimientos de la justicia en la imposición de la pena de muerte. En quinto y último lugar, se analizan las circunstancias que llevaron a la Corona de Castilla, a partir del último tercio del siglo XV, a relegar la pena de muerte entre el elenco punitivo y preferir castigos que tuvieran utilidad pública.

Propiedades eclesiásticas en una ciudad aduanera: los jesuitas en Orduña, 1689-1767

[ES]El colegio de los jesuitas de Orduña, uno de los más tardíos de todo el País Vasco, sigue en su fundación un patrón característico en los casos de mecenazgo indiano: benefactor oriundo, capital consolidado sobre el comercio y el servicio de la Corona, y diseño dirigido desde el otro lado del Atlántico, en este caso desde el Perú. El presente artículo aporta algunas claves sobre esas cuestiones, y ahonda en la formación del patrimonio que la Compañía de Jesús logró reunir en esta ciudad aduanera del Señorío de Vizcaya hasta el momento de la expulsión decretada por el rey Carlos III.
