In order to evaluate the presence of TMD (temporomandibular disorder), dissatisfaction related to the use of removable partial dentures (RPD) and the effect of the treatment on temporomandibular joint noises, 13 female patients with Kennedy class I and II mandibular arch were selected. Another 13 young, asymptomatic, dentate patients, also female, were used as reference. After four years, 38.4% were found to have a moderate or severe degree of TMD. Over the four years, the degree of TMD increased in 46.15% of the patients, was not affected in 20.07%, while in 15.38% it decreased or the patients remained free from signs and symptoms. About 30% of the patients at the second year and 46% after the fourth year, had complaints regarding retention and stability. It was concluded that there is no relationship between TMD and the condition of partially edentulous Kennedy class I and II, but patient dissatisfaction increased after the second year and temporomandibular joint noise was reduced significantly with the replacement of the teeth.

O presente trabalho teve como objetivo principal analisar as mudanças nas formas de venda e consumo do açaí na Região Metropolitana de Belém (RMB), e sua relação com a identidade de lugar de seus consumidores. O interesse pelo tema teve origem na observação da ocorrência da globalização do açaí, alimento base da dieta das populações amazônicas de origem ribeirinha que hoje é largamente consumido fora da Região Amazônica, em padrões muito diferentes daqueles nela estabelecidos. A escolha da RMB como lócus de pesquisa se justifica pelo fato de que nela se concentra alto consumo de açaí, nos padrões tradicionais e nos modernos, suscitando questionamentos sobre os efeitos dessa convivência na vida cotidiana dos que a habitam. Teoricamente, a pesquisa articula a definição de identidade de lugar de Abe-Lima (2012) com as elaborações de Henri Lefèbvre (1991) sobre a vida cotidiana no mundo moderno e com teoria dos circuitos econômicos de Milton Santos (2008). Metodologicamente, foi adotada uma estratégia multimétodos, envolvendo pesquisa documental, um painel de especialistas com 5 entidades de acompanhamento da produção de açaí, observações pautadas na etnografia urbana em 9 locais de venda e entrevistas semiabertas com 40 consumidores de açaí, maiores de 18 anos e residentes na RMB, recrutados por meio de cadeia tipo bola de neve. Além dos roteiros de entrevistas, foram utilizados como estratégias de coleta de dados diários de campo e fotografias. O conjunto dos dados foi submetido à técnica da análise de conteúdo temática, com eventual apoio do software QDA Miner Lite. Os resultados situaram a globalização do açaí em meados da década de 1990, momento de intensificação dos efeitos da metropolização em Belém, como o aumento populacional, a segregação espacial e a imposição de um ritmo de vida mais acelerado. As análises apontaram que tal processo significou a entrada do açaí no circuito superior da economia, com um processo produtivo mais organizado, utilizando mais tecnologia e envolvendo maiores volumes financeiros, atingindo escala industrial. No entanto, prevalece na RMB o processamento artesanal, em estruturas de pequeno porte, construídas em alvenaria, de organização simples e controle financeiro ausente. O consumo público aumentou, com grande número de locais especializados na oferta de açaí, em caráter de entretenimento, sendo incipiente a adesão a novos acompanhamentos, como granola e aveia. A preferência pelos acompanhamentos tradicionais, como farinha d’água ou de tapioca, açúcar e peixe, permanece, assim como pelo consumo privado, no âmbito da casa, que tem sido favorecido pela disponibilidade do serviço de entrega, recurso recente. A frequência geral de consumo diminuiu, em função do aumento de preço e de mudanças na rotina, como aumento da distância entre local de trabalho e residência. A pesquisa permitiu reafirmar a importância do açaí na vida cotidiana dos belenenses que o consomem, para os quais ele funciona como elemento de distintividade, continuidade, autoestima e autoeficácia, em estreita relação com aspectos próprios da metrópole. Por esse motivo, torna-se preocupante que o acesso a açaí de qualidade, nos padrões desejados pelos indivíduos, esteja tornando-SE privilégio inacessível aos consumidores de menor poder aquisitivo. Assim, espera-se que o conjunto de dados contribua para a compreensão da importância de políticas públicas voltadas ao açaí que considerem melhor as demandas daqueles que o consomem.

Este estudo objetivou descrever a percepção dos usuários sobre a diabetes. A pesquisa foi descritiva e exploratória, com abordagem qualitativa; o cenário foi um hospital na cidade de Belém-PA, com participação de 32 sujeitos. Empregando-se a técnica de análise de conteúdo temática, emergiram quatro categorias: Controle do diabetes: a enfermagem na automonitorização da glicemia; O diabético e a enfermagem: uma interação para o autocuidado; Consulta de enfermagem ao diabético: a intervenção no processo saúde-doença; Diabetes e suas complicações: o medo repercutido na perda de funções. Observou-se que o paciente começa a se cuidar impulsionado pelo medo de perder sua saúde, obrigando-o ao autocuidado. O enfermeiro está diretamente ligado com o controle da diabetes, a partir do momento que realiza os cuidados e orientações da automonitorização da doença.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether the addition of discharge standard illustrated cards improves understanding of patients in the emergency room. METHODS: We conducted a prospective, randomized, interventional study with 228 patients discharged from the emergency department. All patients were interviewed and tested for the level of understanding of discharge instructions. Some of them received the intervention, with the standard cards, and another did not, constituting the control group. RESULTS: The average of followed discharge guidelines of the group that received the cards was higher than the control group, with statistical significance (p=0.009). When segregated by age, the group between 16 and 35 years of both sexes had the best average of followed guidelines, statistically, than the average of the control group (p=0.01). The difference between the mean orientations between the control group and the card for patients undergoing procedures was statistically significant (p=0.02); as for the stratification according to the number of procedures, the significance increases when that is equal to 1 (p=0.001) and decreased the more procedures were carried out. CONCLUSION: The introduction of discharge standard orientation cards was associated with improvement in the understanding of patients. Without replacing the verbal directions, which establishes dialogue and doctor-patient bonding, cards appear as auxiliary elements, facilitating understanding and care guidelines.

The practice of teaching is a complex, dynamic and challenging. Several obstacles are faced by educators, among them, excessive workload, classrooms with large numbers of students, reducing the support team manager etc. These experiences call into question the belief that such teachers have in their own ability to teach and motivate your students, including those with the greatest difficulties. Studies show that this belief, called self-efficacy, mediates the action of teachers and are related to the goals, persistence and motivation of teachers. The teacher self-efficacy is formed by direct experience, by observation, persuasion and psychophysiological states. The objective of the study is to identify aspects of the formation of self-efficacy teacher in-service teacher. This is a documentary study, after online search using the keywords memorials training and school as keywords, was found eight jobs at the State University of Campinas, two of which were dropped from the analysis due to not meeting the pre-established criteria. The data were organized into spreadsheets for analysis specifically designed for the study, considering the theoretical framework proposed by Bandura (1997) and Tschannen-Moran & Woolfolk Hoy (2001). The results indicate that family support throughout schooling, the role of teachers as models from basic education and teaching experiences are widely cited in memorials analyzed. These results offer from further reflections, indicating contribute to discussions on the formation and performance of teachers regarding the ability to teach, especially in the early years of elementary school

Beside aging process comes the incidence of dementia and, among them Alzheimer's disease (AD) accounts for approximately 60% of cases. This disease is characterized as a neuropathology with unknown etiology that causes cognitive deficits and behavioral disorders. Caring for patients with AD can cause an overload, both physical and psychological, which can cause high levels of stress on the primary caregiver. It is necessary that the caregiver also receives attention and develop activities that promote health benefits, while providing moments of distraction from the task of caring. Nonpharmacological interventions may be favorable for improving health with consequent decreased on the levels of stress. The objective of this study was to conduct a systematic review of scientific papers that aimed to verify the effect of nonpharmacological interventions on stress levels in caregivers of patients with AD. To contamplate this goal was accomplished a systematic search in the following databases: Biological Abstracts, PsycINFO, PubMed/Medline, Web of Science, LILACS and SciELO. The following keywords and Boolean operators was used: “caregivers” OR “family” and “nonpharmacological interventions” OR “support groups” OR “therapies” AND “Alzheimer's disease” OR “Alzheimer's dementia” OR “Alzheimer” OR “elderly” AND “stress”. There were found 3studies that met inclusion criteria adopted for the present work, and none showed significant results for the variable stress. It is not possible to affirm, according to the studies, that nonpharmacologial interventions programs for caregivers of patients with AD are effective to influence and to control the stress. The aim of this clinical randomized double-blind split-mouth study was to assess the effectiveness of a 6% hydrogen peroxide with nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide light activated bleaching agent. 31 patients were treated with: one upper hemiarcade with a 35% hydrogen peroxide bleaching agent and the other hemiarcade with a 6% hydrogen peroxide. Two applications were completed each treatment session and three sessions were appointed, with one week interval between them. Tooth colour was registered each session and 1 week and 1 months after completing the treatment by spectrophotometer, registering parameters L*, a* and b*, and subjectively using VITA Classic guide. Tooth sensitivity was registered by VAS and patient satisfaction and self-perception result was determined using OHIP-14. Tooth colour variation and sensitivity were compared between both bleaching agents. Both treatment showed a change between baseline colour and all check-points with a ΔE=5.57 for 6% and of ΔE=7.98 for the 35% one month after completing the (p<0.05). No statistical differences were seen when subjective evaluations were compared. Also, no differences were seen in tooth sensitivity between bleaching agents. OHIP-14 questionnaire demonstrated a significant change for all patients after bleaching. A 6% hydrogen peroxide with nitrogen-doped titanium dioxide light activated agent is effective for tooth bleaching, reaching a ΔE of 5.57 one month after completing the treatment, with no clinical differences to a 35% agent neither in colour change or in tooth sensitivity. A low concentration hydrogen peroxide bleaching agent may reach good clinical results with less adverse effects.

The design of implant structure is still a questioning to the professionals, while their variations can to influence of stress distribution favorably to bone. Therefore, the aim of study was to review addressing the topic of osseointegrated implants design establishing answers for the patient oral rehabilitation, according variations existing on the market. It was conducted a detailed search strategy by the PubMed/ Medline and Bireme, it was used as descriptors: “dental implants cylinder”; “dental implants thread”; “dental implants geometry”, until May 2014. From 798 articles, after review were selected 18 articles and 1 specific area book. The results were divided to compare design of implant and threads for further discussion and conclusions. Thus, conclude that the threads implants are best used because of its advantages with respect to the stress distribution and stability primary. The variations of the differents types of threads, have influence for stress distribution.

The study addresses self-efficacy in learning acrobatic elements at Gymnastics for All and Brazilian Capoeira. The methodology consisted of descriptive-qualitative method of research. Questionnaires were applied to seven practitioners of modalities (04 capoeira fighters; 02 gymnastic athletes and 01 practitioner of both of them). The answer formed categories of analysis and it was found that sources of mastery and vicarious experiences plus verbal persuasion are relevant and influence the perception of performance. Fear of injury during practice and preparation of educational pre-sports activities to a better understanding of the task influence the choices and also were indicated. The coach needs to merge with playfulness and motivation, with appropriated levels of challenge to carry out the activities, thus optimizing satisfaction, participation and motivation of athletes.
