Cómo influye en los cultivos agrícolas y en la producción de estos el agua utilizada para los vegetales y animales; donde se determina qué condiciones físicas y químicas tiene el suelo y los sembríos.

Organització de la comunicació als centres tecnològics a Catalunya

Les activitats que els centres i entitats de transferència tecnològica porten a terme en molts dels àmbits passen desapercebuts del públic general, tot i que els seus serveis aporten millores importants al desenvolupament i a la qualitat de vida de la societat. Aquest treball analitza si no es canalitza la informació adequadament o si són els mitjans els que no difonen les activitats de les entitats i centres. L’estudi es centra en com hauria de ser l’organització de la comunicació i com és a partir del treball de camp d’una mostra representativa dels centres i entitats tecnològiques a Catalunya.

The Impact of Cannabis Use on Cognitive Functioning in Patients With Schizophrenia: A Meta-analysis of Existing Findings and New Data in a First-Episode Sample.

Cannabis use is highly prevalent among people with schizophrenia, and coupled with impaired cognition, is thought to heighten the risk of illness onset. However, while heavy cannabis use has been associated with cognitive deficits in long-term users, studies among patients with schizophrenia have been contradictory. This article consists of 2 studies. In Study I, a meta-analysis of 10 studies comprising 572 patients with established schizophrenia (with and without comorbid cannabis use) was conducted. Patients with a history of cannabis use were found to have superior neuropsychological functioning. This finding was largely driven by studies that included patients with a lifetime history of cannabis use rather than current or recent use. In Study II, we examined the neuropsychological performance of 85 patients with first-episode psychosis (FEP) and 43 healthy nonusing controls. Relative to controls, FEP patients with a history of cannabis use (FEP + CANN; n = 59) displayed only selective neuropsychological impairments while those without a history (FEP - CANN; n = 26) displayed generalized deficits. When directly compared, FEP + CANN patients performed better on tests of visual memory, working memory, and executive functioning. Patients with early onset cannabis use had less neuropsychological impairment than patients with later onset use. Together, these findings suggest that patients with schizophrenia or FEP with a history of cannabis use have superior neuropsychological functioning compared with nonusing patients. This association between better cognitive performance and cannabis use in schizophrenia may be driven by a subgroup of "neurocognitively less impaired" patients, who only developed psychosis after a relatively early initiation into cannabis use.

Anàlisi crítica del discurs de textos periodístics de la prensa comarcal catalana sobre l’okupació

En aquest treball definim allò que és el moviment okupa i contrastem l'esterotip del okupa en els mitjans. Entenem l'okupació com una eina de lluita política i n'estudiem la seva representació als mitjans. Per fi, presentem els resultats de l'anàlisi. Fent ús de l'Anàlisi Crítica del Discurs per estudiar articles i editorials de quatre diaris de la premsa comarcal, delimiten els aspectes positius i negatius de la cobertura realitzada. Hem escollit els casos del Forat de la Vergonya i de la Makabra, a més de seleccionar diversos temes editorials. Concloem que la cobertura mediàtica de l'okupació està esbiaixada, i comprobem algunes de les hipòtesis. Per fi, l'ús selectiu de la lletra "K" en la paralau okupa ha donat peu a reflexions més generals sobre el paper ideològic dels mitjans. Efectivament, aquests últims van utilitzar la "K" tant en editorials com en noticies unicament en els casos en que no es produïa un conflicte amb l'ideologia del diari.

Cornea graft endothelial cells undergo apoptosis by way of an alternate (caspase-independent) pathway.

PURPOSE: To look for apoptosis pathways involved in corneal endothelial cell death during acute graft rejection and to evaluate the potential role of nitric oxide in this process. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Corneal buttons from Brown-Norway rats were transplanted into Lewis rat corneas. At different time intervals after transplantation, apoptosis was assessed by diamino-2-phenylindol staining and annexin-V binding on flat-mount corneas, and by terminal transferase dUTP nick end labeling (TUNEL), caspase-3 dependent and leukocyte elastase inhibitor (LEI)/LDNase II caspase-independent pathways on sections. Inducible nitric oxide synthase (NOS-II) expression and the presence of nitrotyrosine were assayed by immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: Graft endothelial cells demonstrated nuclear fragmentation and LEI nuclear translocation, annexin-V binding, and membranes bleb formation. Apoptosis associated with caspase-3 activity or TUNEL-positive reaction was not observed at any time either in the graft or in the recipient corneal endothelial cells. During 14 days posttransplantation, the recipient corneal endothelial cells remained unaltered and their number unchanged in all studied corneas. NOS-II was expressed in infiltrating cells present within the graft. This expression was closely associated with the presence of nitrotyrosine in endothelial and infiltrating cells. CONCLUSION: During the time course of corneal graft rejection, graft endothelial cells undergo apoptosis. Apoptosis is caspase 3 independent and TUNEL negative and is, probably, carried out by an alternative pathway driven by an LEI/L-Dnase II. Peroxynitrite formation may be an additional mechanism for cell toxicity and programmed cell death of the graft endothelial cells during the rejection process in this model.

Mesa de tensão com areia: procedimentos para montagem e validação

Este trabalho apresenta um método prático e fácil para construção de uma mesa de tensão com camadas de areia constituídas de quartzo moído, para ser utilizada na determinação da retenção de água no solo até 100 hPa. A avaliação da mesa de tensão construída por esse método foi feita com amostras de solo indeformadas, com conteúdo de argila variando de 105 a 316 g kg-1 e C orgânico de 19,8 a 39,0 g kg-1. Utilizou-se um minitensiômetro e câmara de pressão de Richard para testar a eficiência da mesa de areia na aplicação da tensão nas amostras. Os resultados mostraram que os dados obtidos na mesa de areia foram confiáveis para determinação da curva de retenção de água no solo até 100 hPa, independentemente do conteúdo de argila e dos teores de matéria orgânica.
