The strategy has an important role in organizations by identifying factors that need to be emphasized to organizational success and strategic map currently contemplates as a preview of organizational strategy, prepared from your planning. Third sector organizations need to take a competitive posture, establishing a sustainable position and maximizing the use of resources towards their social or humanitarian goals. This research aims to investigate the process of building strategic maps of two non-profit organizations by identifying and characterizing the steps common to these organizations. The research is characterized as qualitative descriptive and applied knowledge. Developed from bibliographical reviews and participant observation gathered in a case study, the data was collected in two third sector organizations and the results show that how to conduct the process may influence directly on your result lists. Among the steps identified, emphasis can be given to the formation of a team, the definition of strategy, the definition of strategic objectives, the gathering of those goals into perspective and the identification of the cause-effect relationship that relate. Marked as optional, but effective, conducting an event outside the premises of the company to complete the process, or any portion thereof. However, stands out as essential the active participation of senior management in the process, as a way to give credit to the initiative. These steps, its characteristics and its factors are described from comparisons between the processes adopted by the organizations surveyed

Making diagnoses in oral pathology are often difficult and confusing in dental practice, especially for the lessexperienced dental student. One of the most promising areas in bioinformatics is computer-aided diagnosis, where a computer system is capable of imitating human reasoning ability and provides diagnoses with an accuracy approaching that of expert professionals. This type of system could be an alternative tool for assisting dental students to overcome the difficulties of the oral pathology learning process. This could allow students to define variables and information, important to improving the decision-making performance. However, no current open data management system has been integrated with an artificial intelligence system in a user-friendly environment. Such a system could also be used as an education tool to help students perform diagnoses. The aim of the present study was to develop and test an open case-based decisionsupport system. Methods: An open decision-support system based on Bayes' theorem connected to a relational database was developed using the C++ programming language. The software was tested in the computerisation of a surgical pathology service and in simulating the diagnosis of 43 known cases of oral bone disease. The simulation was performed after the system was initially filled with data from 401 cases of oral bone disease. Results: the system allowed the authors to construct and to manage a pathology database, and to simulate diagnoses using the variables from the database. Conclusion: Combining a relational database and an open decision-support system in the same user-friendly environment proved effective in simulating diagnoses based on information from an updated database.

Crotoxin is a neurotoxin from Crotalus durissus terrificus venom that shows immunomodulatory, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, antitumor and analgesic activities. Structurally, this toxin is a heterodimeric complex composed by a toxic basic PLA2 (Crotoxin B or CB) non-covalently linked to an atoxic non-enzymatic and acidic component (Crotapotin, Crotoxin A or CA). Several CA and CB isoforms have been isolated and characterized, showing that the crotoxin venom fraction is, in fact, a mixture of different molecules derived from the combination of distinct subunit isoforms. Intercro (IC) is a protein from the same snake venom which presents high similarity in primary structure to CB, indicating that it could be an another isoform of this toxin. In this work, we compare IC to the crotoxin complex (CA/CB) and/or CB in order to understand its functional aspects. The experiments with IC revealed that it is a new toxin with different biological activities from CB, keeping its catalytic activity but presenting low myotoxicity and absence of neurotoxic activity. The results also indicated that IC is structurally similar to CB isoforms, but probably it is not able to form a neurotoxic active complex with crotoxin A as observed for CB. Moreover, structural and phylogenetic data suggest that IC is a new toxin with possible toxic effects not related to the typical CB neurotoxin. © 2013.

The choice Brazilian african study theme in the general education, and particularly in physical education has not advanced as to be themed with the subject matter. Even open to this issue, in 2003 a law was passed introducing an obligation of racial ethnic correlations in Brazil. Law 10.639, changed the LDB (Guidelines and Framework Act, 1996) and establishing the obligation both in elementary school as high school, public and private, the teaching of history and African Culture and African Brazilian. As the main objective of disseminating the importance of valuing the African culture and its legacy, expanding the looks and the knowledge about the culture and history of a people who often are discriminated against and excluded by society. The questions that arise are the following: The physical education teacher know that prerogative? Incorporates the Brazilian african discussion in their classes? Discusses with students these subjects related to corporal practices? Have difficulty in dealing with this issue? What? Thus the aim of this study was to detect whether and how a group of physical education teachers is the Brazilian african theme in their classes, for the fulfillment of the Law 10.639 / 03. The methodology of this study was qualitative descriptive type. Were used for data collection semi-structured interviews and non-participant observation. The data obtained through interviews with teachers were transcribed, reviewed and classified according to the content analysis. It is concluded that the racial ethnic theme is not systematically addressed in physical education classes when they are treated, is superficially when proposed by the curriculum of

The pathogenic mechanisms of thromboangiitis obliterans (TAO) are not entirely known and the imbalance of matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs) plays a role in vascular diseases. We evaluated the MMP-2 and MMP-9 circulating levels and their endogenous tissue inhibitors of metalloproteinases (TIMP-1 and TIMP-2) in TAO patients with clinical manifestations. The study included 20 TAO patients (n = 10 female, n = 10 male) aged 38-59 years under clinical follow-up. The patients were classified into two groups: (1) TAO former smokers (n = 11) and (2) TAO active smokers (n = 9); the control group included normal volunteer non-smokers (n = 10) and active smokers without peripheral artery disease (n = 10). Patient plasma samples were used to analyze MMP-2 and MMP-9 levels using zymography, and TIMP-1 and TIMP-2 concentrations were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays. The analysis of MMP-2/TIMP-2 and MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratios (which were used as indices of net MMP-2 and MMP-9 activity, respectively) showed significantly higher MMP-9/TIMP-1 ratios in TAO patients (p < 0.05). We found no significant differences in MMP-2/TIMP-2 ratios (p > 0.05). We found higher MMP-9 levels and decreased levels of TIMP-1 in the TAO groups (active smokers and former smokers), especially in active smokers compared with the other groups (all p < 0.05). MMP-2 and TIMP-2 were not significantly different in patients with TAO as compared to the control group (p > 0.05). In conclusion, our results showed increased MMP-9 and reduced TIMP-1 activity in TAO patients, especially in active smokers compared with non-TAO patients. These data suggest that smoke compounds could activate MMP-9 production or inhibit TIMP-1 activity.

The thesis studies the economic and financial conditions of Italian households, by using microeconomic data of the Survey on Household Income and Wealth (SHIW) over the period 1998-2006. It develops along two lines of enquiry. First it studies the determinants of households holdings of assets and liabilities and estimates their correlation degree. After a review of the literature, it estimates two non-linear multivariate models on the interactions between assets and liabilities with repeated cross-sections. Second, it analyses households financial difficulties. It defines a quantitative measure of financial distress and tests, by means of non-linear dynamic probit models, whether the probability of experiencing financial difficulties is persistent over time. Chapter 1 provides a critical review of the theoretical and empirical literature on the estimation of assets and liabilities holdings, on their interactions and on households net wealth. The review stresses the fact that a large part of the literature explain households debt holdings as a function, among others, of net wealth, an assumption that runs into possible endogeneity problems. Chapter 2 defines two non-linear multivariate models to study the interactions between assets and liabilities held by Italian households. Estimation refers to a pooling of cross-sections of SHIW. The first model is a bivariate tobit that estimates factors affecting assets and liabilities and their degree of correlation with results coherent with theoretical expectations. To tackle the presence of non normality and heteroskedasticity in the error term, generating non consistent tobit estimators, semi-parametric estimates are provided that confirm the results of the tobit model. The second model is a quadrivariate probit on three different assets (safe, risky and real) and total liabilities; the results show the expected patterns of interdependence suggested by theoretical considerations. Chapter 3 reviews the methodologies for estimating non-linear dynamic panel data models, drawing attention to the problems to be dealt with to obtain consistent estimators. Specific attention is given to the initial condition problem raised by the inclusion of the lagged dependent variable in the set of explanatory variables. The advantage of using dynamic panel data models lies in the fact that they allow to simultaneously account for true state dependence, via the lagged variable, and unobserved heterogeneity via individual effects specification. Chapter 4 applies the models reviewed in Chapter 3 to analyse financial difficulties of Italian households, by using information on net wealth as provided in the panel component of the SHIW. The aim is to test whether households persistently experience financial difficulties over time. A thorough discussion is provided of the alternative approaches proposed by the literature (subjective/qualitative indicators versus quantitative indexes) to identify households in financial distress. Households in financial difficulties are identified as those holding amounts of net wealth lower than the value corresponding to the first quartile of net wealth distribution. Estimation is conducted via four different methods: the pooled probit model, the random effects probit model with exogenous initial conditions, the Heckman model and the recently developed Wooldridge model. Results obtained from all estimators accept the null hypothesis of true state dependence and show that, according with the literature, less sophisticated models, namely the pooled and exogenous models, over-estimate such persistence.

Surface stress changes induced by specific adsorption of molecules were investigated using a micromechanical cantilever sensor (MCS) device. 16 MCS are grouped within four separate wells. Each well can be addressed independently by different liquid enabling functionalization of MCS separately by flowing different solutions through each well and performing sensing and reference experiments simultaneously. In addition, each well contains a fixed reference mirror, which allows measuring the absolute bending of MCS. The effect of the flow rate on the MCS bending change was found to be dependent on the absolute bending value of MCS. In addition, the signal from the reference mirror can be used to follow refractive index changes upon mixing different solutions. Finite element simulation of solution exchange in wells was compared with experiment results. Both revealed that one solution can be exchanged by another one after a total volume of 200 µl has flown through. Using MCS, the adsorption of thiolated deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) molecules and 6-mercapto-1-hexanol (MCH) on gold surfaces, and the DNA hybridization were performed. The nanomechanical response is in agreement with data reported by Fritz et al.1 Thus, the multiwell device is readily applicable for sensing of multiple chemical and biological recognition events in a single step. In this context controlled release and uptake of drugs are currently widely discussed. As a model system, we have used polystyrene (PS) spheres with diameters in the order of µm. The swelling behavior of individual PS spheres in toluene vapor was studied via mass loading by means of micromechanical cantilever sensors. For 4–8% cross-linked PS a mass increase of 180% in saturated toluene vapor was measured. In addition, the diameter change in saturated toluene vapor was measured and the corresponding volume increase of 200% was calculated. The mass of the swollen PS sphere decreases with increasing exposure time to ultraviolet (UV) light. The swelling response is significantly different between the first and the second exposure to toluene vapor. This is attributed to the formation of a cross-linked shell at the surface of the PS spheres. Shape persistent parts were observed for locally UV irradiated PS spheres. These PS spheres were found to be fluorescent and cracks occur after exposure in toluene liquid. The diffusion time of dye molecules in PS spheres increases with increasing chemical cross-linking density. This concept of locally dissolving non cross-linked PS from the sphere was applied to fabricate donut structures on surfaces. Arrays of PS spheres were fabricated using spin coating. The donut structure was produced simply after liquid solvent rinsing. The complete cross-linking of PS spheres was found after long exposure time to UV. We found that stabilizers play a major role in the formation of the donut nanostructures.
