Käyttöliittymä on rajapinta käyttäjän ja järjestelmän tarjoamien toimintojen välillä ja sen toimivuus vaikuttaa toimintojen suorittamiseen joko positiivisesti tai negatiivisesti. Täten sovelluksen suunnitteluvaiheessa on hyvä arvioida käyttöliittymän ja sen toimintojen laatua ja kokeilla ideoiden toimivuutta rakentamalla asiasta prototyyppejä. Prototypoinnilla voidaan tunnistaa ja korjata mahdolliset ongelmat jo suunnittelupöydällä. Tämä diplomityö käsittelee Web-sovelluksen kehityksen aikana toteutettua käyttöliittymän ja sen toimintojen prototypointia. Käyttöliittymien mallintamista voidaan toteuttaa erilaisilla menetelmillä, joita työssä käydään läpi teknologisista näkökulmista eli miten prototypointimenetelmiä voidaan soveltaa projektin eri vaiheissa. Prototypoinnin apuna käytettäviin työkaluihin luodaan lyhyt katsaus esitellen yleisellä tasolla muutamia eri sovelluskategorian ohjelmistoja ja lisäksi käsitellään suunnittelumallien hyödyntämistä. Työ osoittaa, että yleisiä prototypointimenetelmiä ja -periaatteita voidaan soveltaa Web-sovellusten prototypoinnissa. Prototypointi on hyödyllistä aloittaa luonnostelemalla ja jatkaa aikaisessa vaiheessa HTML-malleihin, joilla päästään lähelle toteutuksen teknologioita ja mallintamaan sovelluksen luonnetta, ilmettä, tuntumaa ja vuorovaikutusta. HTML-prototyypeistä voidaan jalostaa sekoitetun tarkkuuden malleja ja ne toimivat toteutuksen perustana. Jatkokehityksessä ideoita voidaan esittää useilla eri tarkkuuden tekniikoilla.

Zorflex® activated carbon fibers (ACF), reference FM100 198B, are used before and after an oxidizing procedure with H3PO4 to study the adsorption of Pb2+. The point of zero charge was determined for the modified and unmodified fiber giving values of 2.3 and 4.3, respectively. After oxidizing the ACF, the fiber showed to have a greater Pb2+ adsorption capacity in comparison with the unmodified fiber, which is related with the acid sites increase, where lead was mainly adsorbed. Determination of the BET area was carried out by nitrogen physisorption at 77K. ACFs presented superficial areas between 1000 and 1500 m²/g showing mostly, a microporous structure. The preliminary design of an adsorbent using the modified fiber is presented where the fiber superior physicochemical properties over the unmodified one are observed.

In order to grow, cities are increasingly competing for attention, jobs, investments, visitors, residents and significant events. Cities need to come up with creative solutions to keep up with the competition; they ought to become creative cities. Attracting talented and diverse inhabitants is a key factor in developing a creative city, which on is characterized by openness, tolerance, vibrancy and diversity. Along the need for renewed city images city brand building has become popular. Helsinki is the World Design Capital 2012 (WDC 2012) and this mega-event presents a meaningful opportunity for the city to broadcast itself globally. The purpose of this study is to evaluate how Helsinki brands itself as a creative city through an international mega-event. The sub-aims are to: 1) Map the factors behind the creative city and their relation to the city of Helsinki, 2) Describe the city branding process, 3) Evaluate the role of the Helsinki World Design Capital 2012 mega-event in Helsinki’s creative city brand building. First, the theory discusses the concept of the creative city that has gained growing attention during the past decade. Then, the city branding process is described and the benefits of hosting a mega-event are presented. Finally, co-branding a city and a mega-event in order to generate maximum benefit from the mega-event, is reviewed. This is a qualitative research for which data was collected through three face-to-face interviews, the World Design Capital 2012 bid, Helsinki’s economic development strategy, a consulting firm’s research report on the case city and web-pages. The research reveals that Helsinki has shown interest in the creative city discussion. The terminology around the concept is however approached carefully. Helsinki fits many of the creative city characteristics and recognizes its flaws for which improvement strategies have been planned. Bottlenecks keeping the city from promoting a more open mind were mainly revealed in its organizational structures. Helsinki has no official brand strategy; nonetheless pressure to develop one is present. The World Design Capital 2012 mega-event is seen as a meaningful stepping board to strengthen Helsinki’s identity and image, and start thinking about a city brand. The brand strategies of the mega-event support the values and virtues of the city itself, which enables benefits of co-branding introduces in the theory part. Helsinki has no official brand and doesn’t call itself a creative city, however this study shows signs of the city taking steps towards building a creative city brand with the help of the Helsinki World Design Capital 2012 mega-event.

RFID-tekniikka on radiotaajuudella toimivaa etätunnistusta, jossa hyödynnetään RFID-tunnisteiksi kutsuttuja tageja, sekä RFID-lukijoita. RFID-tekniikan käyttökohteet ovat erittäin laajat. Tässä kandidaatintyössä tutkitaan RFID-tekniikan hyödyntämismahdollisuuksia teollisuuden huoltopalvelusuhteessa. Työ keskittyy huollettavien laitteiden etätunnistamiseen mobiileja RFID-lukijoita hyödyntäen. Laitteiden tiedot noudetaan olemassa olevasta tietokannasta web-käyttöliittymän kautta. Koska laitteet koostuvat pääosin metallista, joudutaan tunnistetyyppien valintaa pohtimaan tarkasti. Metallipinnat sekä nesteet vaikuttavat erittäin negatiivisesti useiden tunnisteiden lukuetäisyyteen. Työssä keskitytään vaadittavan järjestelmän suunnittelemiseen aikaisempia tutkimuksia hyödyntäen, mutta itse järjestelmän toteutus ei kuulu tähän kandidaatintyöhön. Lopussa järjestelmän alustava suunnitelma esitellään.

Skaalautuvien web-sivujen merkitys kasvaa nykypäivänä, koska web-sivuja katsotaan hyvin erikokoisilla ja -resoluutiosilla laitteilla. Sivujen skaalautuessa eri laitteille ei tarvitse erikseen tehdä mobiilisivuja tai perinteistä natiivia ohjelmistoa joka laitteelle, vaan yksi sivu toimii kaikilla laitteilla. Ongelmana on saada web-sovellukset toimimaan eri laitteilla, koska laitteiden selaimissa saattaa olla pieni eroja, joiden vuoksi on työlästä saada skaalautuva käyttöliittymä toimimaan kaikilla eri laitteilla. Skaalautuvien sivujen kehittämisen avuksi on luotu erilaisia käyttöliittymä- ja grafiikkakirjastoja, jotka auttavat sivun skaalautuvuuden toteuttamisessa. Kirjastoja käyttämällä säästetään kehitystyöhön käytettävää aikaa ja ulkoistetaan kirjaston ylläpito kolmannelle osapuolelle. Tällöin jää enemmän aikaa varsinaisten sovelluksen kehitystyölle. Tässä työssä tutkitaan eri käyttöliittymä- ja grafiikkakirjastovaihtoehtoja käyttöliittymän toteuttamiseksi. Työssä toteutetaan yksinkertainen verkkoseurantajärjestelmän prototyyppi ja valitaan sille skaalautuva käyttöliittymä- ja grafiikkakirjasto. Järjestelmä koostuu kolmesta osasta: käyttöliittymästä, palvelusta ja tietolähteistä, joista palvelu kerää tietoa käyttöliittymälle näytettäväksi.

Työn tarkoituksena on antaa Etelä-Karjalan sosiaali- ja terveyspiirin (Eksote) Hyvis –palvelun nettiportaalille muutosehdoituksia koskien nettisivujen ulkoasua, käytettävyyteen liittyviä seikkoja sekä ideoita brändinrakentamiseen verrattuna maailmalta löytyneisiin palkittuihin terveysalan sivustoihin. Työn tavoitteena on löytää mahdollisimman hyvä ohjenuora nettisivujen toiminnallisiin ja ulkoisiin tapoihin sekä käytänteihin, joiden ansiosta brändille voidaan luoda lisäarvoa nettisivujen välityksellä. Työn tuloksina tuli esiin sivujen kategorioinnin tärkeys, jolla voidaan selkeyttää sivujen rakennetta sekä se helpottaa sivuilla navigointia ja tiedonhakua. Kuvien käyttäminen linkkien ja tekstien yhteydessä oli tulosten mukaan suotavaa. Jokainen tarkasteltava sivu sisälsi responsiivisuuden sekä mobiili- ja tablettioptimoinnin, joten se oli yksi tärkeimmistä tutkimuksessa saaduista tuloksista. Sosiaalinen media oli myös kovasti käytössä jokaisen tutkittavan sivun kohdalla.

The aim of this research is to develop a tool that could allow to organize coopetitional relationships between organizations on the basis of two-sided Internet platform. The main result of current master thesis is a detailed description of the concept of the lead generating internet platform-based coopetition. With the tools of agent-based modelling and simulation, there were obtained results that could be used as a base for suggestion that the developed concept is able to cause a positive effect on some particular industries (e.g. web-design studios market) and potentially can bring some benefits and extra profitability for most companies that operate on this particular industry. Also on the basis of the results it can be assumed that the developed instrument is also able to increase the degree of transparency of the market to which it is applied.

Two new families of building blocks have been prepared and fully characterized and their coordination chemistry exploited for the preparation of molecule-based magnetic materials. The first class of compounds were prepared by exploiting the chemistry of 3,3'-diamino-2,2'-bipyridine together with 2-pyridine carbonyl chloride or 2-pyridine aldehyde. Two new ligands, 2,2'-bipyridine-3,3'-[2-pyridinecarboxamide] (Li, 2.3) and N'-6/s(2-pyridylmethyl) [2,2'bipyridine]-3,3'-diimine (L2, 2.7), were prepared and characterized. For ligand L4, two copper(II) coordination compounds were isolated with stoichiometrics [Cu2(Li)(hfac)2] (2.4) and [Cu(Li)Cl2] (2.5). The molecular structures of both complexes were determined by X-ray crystallography. In both complexes the ligand is in the dianionic form and coordinates the divalent Cu(II) ions via one amido and two pyridine nitrogen donor atoms. In (2.4), the coordination geometry around both Cu11 ions is best described as distorted trigonal bipyramidal where the remaining two coordination sites are satisfied by hfac counterions. In (2.5), both Cu(II) ions adopt a (4+1) distorted square pyramidal geometry. One copper forms a longer apical bond to an adjacent carbonyl oxygen atom, whereas the second copper is chelated to a neighboring Cu-Cl chloride ion to afford chloride bridged linear [Cu2(Li)Cl2]2 tetramers that run along the c-axis of the unit cell. The magnetic susceptibility data for (2.4) reveal the occurrence of weak antiferromagnetic interactions between the copper(II) ions. In contrast, variable temperature magnetic susceptibility measurements for (2.5) reveal more complex magnetic properties with the presence of ferromagnetic exchange between the central dimeric pair of copper atoms and weak antiferromagnetic exchange between the outer pairs of copper atoms. The Schiff-base bis-imine ligand (L2, 2.7) was found to be highly reactive; single crystals grown from dry methanol afforded compound (2.14) for which two methanol molecules had added across the imine double bond. The susceptibility of this ligand to nucleophilic attack at its imine functionality assisted via chelation to Lewis acidic metal ions adds an interesting dimension to its coordination chemistry. In this respect, a Co(II) quaterpyridine-type complex was prepared via a one-pot transformation of ligand L2 in the presence of a Lewis acidic metal salt. The rearranged complex was characterized by X-ray crystallography and a reaction mechanism for its formation has been proposed. Three additional rearranged complexes (2.13), (2.17) and (2.19) were also isolated when ligand (L2, 2.7) was reacted with transition metal ions. The molecular structures of all three complexes have been determined by X-ray crystallography. The second class of compounds that are reported in this thesis, are the two diacetyl pyridine derivatives, 4-pyridyl-2,6-diacetylpyridine (5.5) and 2,2'-6,6'-tetraacetyl-4,4'-bipyridine (5.15). Both of these compounds have been designed as intermediates for the metal templated assembly of a Schiff-base N3O2 macrocycle. From compound (5.15), a covalently tethered dimeric Mn(II) macrocyclic compound of general formula {[Mn^C^XJCl-FkO^Cl-lO.SFbO (5.16) was prepared and characterized. The X-ray analysis of (5.16) reveals that the two manganese ions assume a pentagonal-bipyramidal geometry with the macrocycle occupying the pentagonal plane and the axial positions being filled by a halide ion and a H2O molecule. Magnetic susceptibility data reveal the occurrence of antiferromagnetic interactions between covalently tethered Mn(II)-Mn(II) dimeric units. Following this methodology a Co(II) analogue (5.17) has also been prepared which is isostructural with (5.16).

This study examines the efficiency of search engine advertising strategies employed by firms. The research setting is the online retailing industry, which is characterized by extensive use of Web technologies and high competition for market share and profitability. For Internet retailers, search engines are increasingly serving as an information gateway for many decision-making tasks. In particular, Search engine advertising (SEA) has opened a new marketing channel for retailers to attract new customers and improve their performance. In addition to natural (organic) search marketing strategies, search engine advertisers compete for top advertisement slots provided by search brokers such as Google and Yahoo! through keyword auctions. The rationale being that greater visibility on a search engine during a keyword search will capture customers' interest in a business and its product or service offerings. Search engines account for most online activities today. Compared with the slow growth of traditional marketing channels, online search volumes continue to grow at a steady rate. According to the Search Engine Marketing Professional Organization, spending on search engine marketing by North American firms in 2008 was estimated at $13.5 billion. Despite the significant role SEA plays in Web retailing, scholarly research on the topic is limited. Prior studies in SEA have focused on search engine auction mechanism design. In contrast, research on the business value of SEA has been limited by the lack of empirical data on search advertising practices. Recent advances in search and retail technologies have created datarich environments that enable new research opportunities at the interface of marketing and information technology. This research uses extensive data from Web retailing and Google-based search advertising and evaluates Web retailers' use of resources, search advertising techniques, and other relevant factors that contribute to business performance across different metrics. The methods used include Data Envelopment Analysis (DEA), data mining, and multivariate statistics. This research contributes to empirical research by analyzing several Web retail firms in different industry sectors and product categories. One of the key findings is that the dynamics of sponsored search advertising vary between multi-channel and Web-only retailers. While the key performance metrics for multi-channel retailers include measures such as online sales, conversion rate (CR), c1ick-through-rate (CTR), and impressions, the key performance metrics for Web-only retailers focus on organic and sponsored ad ranks. These results provide a useful contribution to our organizational level understanding of search engine advertising strategies, both for multi-channel and Web-only retailers. These results also contribute to current knowledge in technology-driven marketing strategies and provide managers with a better understanding of sponsored search advertising and its impact on various performance metrics in Web retailing.

1. Triarylamminium radical-cation complexes. The detailed study of manganese, copper and nickel metal-radical complexes with triarylamminium ligands was conducted. Stable, neutral and pseudo-octahedral coordination monometallic complexes with simple monodentate 2,2`-bipyridine ligand containing a redox-active N,N`-(4,4`-dimethoxydiphenyl-amino) substituent were synthesized and fully characterized. The one-electron oxidation process and formation of persistent radical-cation complexes was observed by cyclic voltammetry and spectroelectrochemical measurements. Evans method measurements were performed with radical-cation complexes generated by chemical one-electron oxidation with NOPF6 in acetonitrile. The experimental results indicate ferromagnetic coupling between metal and triarylamminium cation in manganese (II) complex and antiferromagnetic coupling in nickel (II) complex. This data is supported by DFT calculations which also lend weight to the  spin polarization mechanism as an operative model for magnetic exchange coupling. Neutral bimetallic complexes with a new ditopic ligand were synthesized and fully characterized, including magnetic and electrochemical studies. Chemical oxidation of these precursor complexes did not generate radical-cations, but dicationic complexes, which was confirmed by UV-vis and EPR-experiments, as well as varied temperature magnetic measurements. DFT calculations for radical-cation complexes are included. A synthetic pathway for polytopic ligand with multiple redox-active triarylamine sites was developed. The structure of the ligand is presumably suitable for -spin polarization exchange model and allows for production of polymetallic complexes having high spin ground states. 2. Base-catalyzed hydrosilylation. A simple reductive base-catalyzed hydrosilation of aldehydes and ketones was adapted to the use of the cheap, safe, and non-toxic polymethylhydrosiloxane (PMHS) instead of the common PhSiH3 and (EtO)3SiH, which present significant cost and safety concerns, respectively. The conversion of silane into pentacoordinate silicate species upon addition of a base was studied in details for the cases of phenyl silane and PMHS and is believed to be essential for the hydrosilylation process. We discovered that nucleophiles (a base or fluoride-anion) induced the rearrangement of PMHS and TMDS into light silanes: MeSiH3 and Me2SiH2, respectively. The reductive properties of PMHS under basic conditions can be attributed to the formation of methyl silane and its conversion into a silicate species. A procedure for the generation of methyl silane and its use in further efficient reductions of aldehydes and ketones has been developed. The protocol was extended to the selective reduction of esters and tertiary amides into alcohols and aldimines into amines with good isolated yields and reduction of heterocyclic compounds was attempted.

Il s'agit d'un atelier donné dans le cadre des semaines de formation continue aux diététistes par le Département de nutrition de l'Université de Montréal en 2002. Après une brève introduction à Internet, on présente les caractéristiques spécifiques aux répertoires versus celles des moteurs de recherche, puis les principaux sites et moteurs de recherche utiles dans le domaine de la nutrition. La deuxième partie de l'atelier consiste à montrer comment utiliser la banque de données PubMed avec des exemples en nutrition.

Le Web se caractérise de bien des façons, un de ses traits dominants étant son caractère hautement évolutif. Bien que relativement jeune, il en est déjà à sa deuxième génération – on parle du Web 2.0 – et certains entrevoient déjà le Web 3.0. Cette évolution n’est pas uniquement technologique mais aussi culturelle, modifiant le rapport des internautes à cet univers numérique et à l’information qui s’y trouve. Les technologies phares du Web 2.0 – blogues, fils RSS, sites Wikis, etc. – offrent aux utilisateurs du Web la possibilité de passer d’un rôle passif d’observateurs à un rôle actif de créateurs. Le Web que l’on côtoie actuellement en est ainsi un plus participatif, dynamique et collaboratif. Les organisations doivent ainsi sérieusement considérer non seulement le potentiel de ces nouveaux environnements pour les aider dans le cadre de leurs activités, mais aussi la nouvelle cyberculture qu’ils engendrent chez leurs employés, clients et partenaires. Les plateformes du Web 2.0 viennent renforcer le potentiel déjà perçu par les organisations des systèmes d’information Web (SIW) à plusieurs niveaux : comme le partage d’information, l’augmentation de la compétitivité ou l’amélioration des relations avec leurs clients. Les milieux documentaires peuvent, au même titre que d’autres types d’organisations, tirer profit des outils de ce Web participatif et de la nouvelle culture collaborative qui en découle. Depuis quelque temps déjà, les bibliothèques se penchent activement sur ces questions et la communauté archivistique emboîte le pas… « vers une Archivistique 2.0 ? » se demanderont certains. Cet article se propose d’examiner le potentiel du Web 2.0 pour les organisations en général ainsi que plus particulièrement pour la communauté archivistique. Nous nous attarderons dans un premier temps à définir ce qu’est le Web 2.0 et à détailler ses technologies et concepts clés. Ces précisions aideront à mieux comprendre par la suite l’apport possible du Web 2.0 en contexte organisationnel. Finalement, des exemples d’utilisation du Web 2.0 par la communauté archivistique viendront conclure cette réflexion sur le Web 2.0, les organisations et l’archivistique.

Introduction : Les pressions sont fortes envers les professionnels de la santé pour qu’ils appliquent une pratique factuelle. Toutefois, un écart important demeure entre les résultats des recherches et la réalité clinique. Par son aspect interactif, le Web 2.0 peut contribuer à l’application des données probantes en facilitant l’accès et l’échange de connaissances. Objectif : Ce projet de recherche s’inscrit dans une étude visant à élaborer une plateforme informatisée pour les professionnels travaillant avec la clientèle ayant subi un accident vasculaire cérébral (AVC). L’objectif de la présente étude est de décrire la perception des professionnels de la santé face à l’introduction du Web 2.0 dans leur pratique. Méthode : Un devis de recherche qualitatif avec une approche phénoménologique a été utilisé. Des entrevues individuelles semi-structurées ont été menées auprès de 24 professionnels et gestionnaires. Résultats : Les personnes interviewées étaient toutes des femmes avec un âge moyen de 45 ans (± 18). Le transfert des connaissances est l’utilité du Web 2.0 qui émerge des participants comme étant la plus importante. Les répondants ont également exprimé avoir besoin d'une plateforme conviviale. Les résultats soulignent également un paradoxe lié au temps. En effet, les répondants estiment que le Web 2.0 pourrait leur permettre de sauver du temps, cependant ils affirment qu'ils n'auront pas le temps de l'utiliser. Conclusion : Bien que le Web 2.0 demeure un outil de transfert de connaissances peu intégré dans la pratique, les professionnels travaillant avec la clientèle AVC perçoivent généralement positivement son introduction dans leur pratique.
