Kosteuspitoisuuden suuruusluokka selvitettiin. Kuivauksesta huolimatta se pysyi korkeana. Inhibiittorien käytöstä huolimatta ruuvielementit korrodoituivat, mutta inhibiittoria I2 käytettäessä tutkittujen ruuvielementtien painohäviöt olivat pienempiä referenssiajoon verrattuna. Inhibiittori I2:lla ei todettu olevan negatiivisia vaikutuksia matalajännitekaapelin laatuun suoritetuissa ikääntymis- sähköominaisuus- ja ristisilloittumisnopeustesteissä.

The fractionation of the antioxidant ethyl acetate extract obtained from the dried leaves of Chrysophyllum marginatum afforded six substances identified as: alpha-amirin, gallic acid, myricitrin, quercitrin, (-)-epigallocatechin and (-)-epigallocatechin-3-O-gallate. This study contributes to the knowledge of the secondary metabolites produced by one more species of the Brazilian Flora, until now not investigated. Moreover, this study allowed the identification of three substances with antioxidant activity previously detected in this species.

The aqueous material found in the fruits of Bixa Orellana L. was collected, dried, and characterized using several experimental techniques, namely phytochemical analysis in order to identify the biologically active constituents, Fourier transform infrared (FT-IR) spectroscopy for vibrational analysis, and X-ray powder diffraction in order to identify the presence of crystalline phases in the sample. The results showed that the aqueous material possesses high concentrations of hydrolyzable tannin. This result justifies the anti-inflammatory activity of this substance reported in other studies.

Microfibrillated cellulose (MFC) is known to enhance strength properties of paper. Improved strength usually means increased bonding which is strongly connected to dimensional instability of paper. Dimensional instability is due to changes in moisture content of paper; when paper is moistened it expands and when dried, it shrinks. Hygroexpansion is linked to end-use problems and excessive drying shrinkage consumes strength potential. Effective use of materials requires controlling of these phenomena. There isn’t yet data concerning dimensional stability of papers containing MFC which restricts wider use of MFC. Main objective of the work was to evaluate dimensional stability of wood-free paper containing different amounts of MFC. Sheets were dried with different methods to see how drying strains effected on drying shrinkage and hygroexpansion. Also tensile strength was measured to find out the effect of MFC. Results were compared to sheets containing kraft fines and in some test points cationic starch was used alongside with MFC. MFC increased the dimensional instability of freely dried sheets. As the amounts of MFC increased the effects on dimensional stability became more severe. However the fineness of MFC didn’t play any important role. Both hygroexpansion and drying shrinkage were decreased with cationic starch addition. Prevention of drying shrinkage over powered the effects of additives on hygroexpansion. Tensile strength improved up till 7 % addition amount which could be set as the upper limit of MFC addition when paper preparation and tensile strength are concerned.

Leaves of Lippia alba were submitted to six different drying treatments, using air at ambient temperature and heated up to 80 °C. The essential oil was extracted by steam distillation and analyzed by GC-MS. For the dried leaves, the oil content was reduced by 12 to 17% when compared with the fresh plant (0.66%). The major oil component was citral, representing 76% for the fresh plant, and varying from 82 to 84% for the dried material. These results showed that L. alba can be submitted to a drying process of up to 80 ºC without degradation and/or loss of the major, [LC1] active component.

The yields and chemical compositions of the essential oils obtained by steam distillation of the fresh and dried (30 and 40 ºC) leaves, stems and roots of Tanaecium nocturnum are reported. The identification and quantification of the volatile constituents were accomplished by GC/MS and GC/FID, respectively. The essential oils obtained from the various parts of the plant were constituted mainly of benzaldehyde. Large losses and variations in the quantities of the components during the drying process were observed. The presence of mandelonitrile in higher concentration in the stem and roots indicates that this species produces cyanogenic glycosides.

Työssä käsiteltävällä sahalla on erääseen kanavakuivaamoon tehty koerakennelma, jonka avulla kuivaamosta poistettavan ilman sisältämää lämpöä hyödynnetään sahatavaran lämmittämisessä kuivauslämpötilaan kuormanvaihdon jälkeen. Energiansäästön lisäksi rakennelman toivotaan ehkäisevän kuormanvaihdosta aiheutuvia olosuhdemuutoksia kuivausprosessin muissa vaiheissa. Poistoilman sisältämä höyry lauhtuu lämmittäessään kylmää sahatavaraa. Lauhtumisen yhteydessä vapautuu runsaasti energiaa. Tehtyjen kokeiden perusteella koerakennelma vähensi lämmönkulutusta selvästi. Lämmönkulutuksen alenema oli jopa teorialaskelmaa suurempi, mistä syystä kokeellisessa osassa tehtyihin mittaustuloksiin on syytä suhtautua varauksella. Perinteisessä kuivaamossa kosteus poistuu pääasiassa vesihöyrynä, mutta koerakennelman avulla saadaan noin puolet puusta haihdutetusta vedestä lauhtumaan takaisin vedeksi.

In this work, a new adsorbent was prepared by microencapsulation of sulfoxine into chitosan microspheres by the spray drying technique. The new adsorbent was characterized by Raman spectroscopy, scanning electron microscopy and microanalysis of energy dispersive X-rays. The Cu(II) adsorption was studied as a function of pH, time and concentration. The optimum pH was found to be 6.0. The kinetic and equilibrium data showed that the adsorption process followed the pseudo second-order kinetic model and the Langmuir isotherm model over the entire concentration range. An increase of 8.0% in the maximum adsorption capacity of the adsorbent (53.8 mg g-1) was observed as compared to chitosan glutaraldehyde cross-linked microspheres.

The aim of this work was to prepare and characterize spray-dried nanocapsule-coated microparticles obtained in one step, using indomethacin as a hydrophobic drug model and poly(e-caprolactone) or Eudragit® RS100, as polymers. Nanocapsule-coated microparticles showed micrometric mean sizes (10 - 15 µm) and a reduced surface area (75 - 85 m²g-1) compared to the raw material (214 m²g-1). Microparticles coated with Eudragit® RS100-nanocapsules showed a better control of the drug release. The release profiles fit to the monoexponetial model and to the Power Law. The mechanism of the indomethacin release from the microparticles is non-Fickian and depends on the particles desagglomeration.

This work reports on the SERS activity of a nanostructured substrate that was obtained by electrodepositing gold over a template consisting of polystyrene microspheres. This substrate displayed superior SERS performance for the detection of 4-merctaptopyridine as compared to a conventional roughened Au electrode. In order to investigate the substrate capability for the detection at low concentration limits, a series of Rhodamine 6G (1 nM) spectra were registered. Our spectral dynamics data is in agreement with single-molecule behavior, showing that the control over the substrate morphology is crucial to enable the production of highly reproducible and sensitive SERS substrates.

The catalytic behavior of Cs-exchanged and Cs-impregnated zeolites (X and Y) was studied using the Knoevenagel condensation between glyceraldehyde acetonide and ethyl acetoacetate in order to produce the corresponding α,β-unsaturated carbonyl compound that is an important intermediate for fine chemicals. The influence of reaction temperature, type of zeolite, and basicity of the sites on the catalytic behavior of the samples was evaluated. All zeolites were active for the studied reaction. The formation of the main condensation product was favored at lower reaction temperatures. Products of further condensations were also observed especially for samples that were only dried before catalytic test.

Two food products (powders) were obtained by hot-air drying or lyophilisation methods on the whole guava fruits. The powders were characterised by sensory and thermal analyses (TGA-DSC), infrared spectroscopy (IR), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Thermal, morphological and structural characterisations showed a similar behaviour for the two solids. TGA-DSC and IR showed the presence of pectin as the main constituent of solids. A semi-crystalline profile was evidenced by XRD, and lamellar/spherical morphologies were observed by SEM. Sensory analyses revealed an aroma highly related to guava. These value-added food products are an alternative to process guava and avoid loss during postharvest handling.
