Tumores neuroendócrinos do pulmão: principais achados radiológicos em uma série de 22 casos com confirmação anatomopatológica

OBJETIVO: Descrever os principais achados de imagem em uma série de casos de tumores neuroendócrinos primários do pulmão (TNPs), destacando as alterações na tomografia computadorizada. MATERIAIS E MÉTODOS: Exames de 22 pacientes (12 homens, idade média de 60 anos) avaliados nos últimos cinco anos em nosso serviço, com confirmação histopatológica, foram retrospectivamente revistos por dois médicos radiologistas e os achados foram descritos em consenso, focando as alterações tomográficas. RESULTADOS: Descrevemos 5 carcinoides típicos, 3 carcinoides atípicos, 3 carcinomas neuroendócrinos de grandes células (CNGCs) e 11 cânceres pulmonares de pequenas células (CPPCs). Apenas um carcinoide típico apresentou aspecto característico de nódulo endobrônquico central com atelectasia pulmonar distal, enquanto os demais foram nódulos ou massas pulmonares. Os carcinoides atípicos eram massas pulmonares periféricas e heterogêneas. Um CNGC era massa periférica delimitada e homogênea, enquanto os demais eram mal delimitados e heterogêneos. Os 11 CPPCs eram massas centrais, infiltrativas e heterogêneas, com alterações pleuropulmonares secundárias. Calcificações estavam ausentes nos CNGCs e CPPCs. Metástases foram vistas inicialmente ou no seguimento de todos os CNGCs e CPPCs. CONCLUSÃO: Apesar de alguns aspectos semelhantes nos exames de imagem, os achados radiológicos, quando integrados às informações clínicas, podem constituir critérios importantes na diferenciação dos tipos histológicos de TNPs.

How to get rid of a pathobiontic bacterium from the stomach mucosa : role of inflammatory monocytes and IL-22 in the vaccine-induced reduction of helicobacter infection

Helicobacter pylori is a bacterium colonizing the human stomach. To prevent or cure this potentially detrimental infection, vaccination might be a suitable alternative to antibiotic therapies. Recently, a study has demonstrated that a vaccine efficiently prevented H pylori infection in human. However, the mechanisms leading to protection remain elusive. In mice, the vaccine-induced protective response relies on CD4+ T cells and especially on Thl7 response. Nevertheless, the factors mediating the reduction of H pylori infection are not fully characterized. Hence, the aim of my thesis was to characterize the factors associated with the Thl7 response. In the context of the vaccine-induced reduction of Helicobacter infection, I first focused on the role of inflammatory monocytes. I showed that CDllb+Ly6CLOW inflammatory monocytes accumulated in the stomach of vaccinated mice in association with the reduction of Helicobacter infection. Remarkably, the depletion of inflammatory monocytes delayed the vaccine-induced protective response. Concerning the role of these cells, I demonstrated that inflammatory monocytes extracted from the stomach of vaccinated mice produced iNOS and killed H pylori in vitro. In a next step, I evaluated the role of IL-22 during the vaccine-induced response. IL-22, which is linked to the Thl7 response, increases innate defense mechanisms of epithelial cells. I demonstrated that IL-22 produced by antigen- specific Thl7 was increased in the stomach of vaccinated mice during the protective response. Interestingly, neutralization of IL-22 was associated with an impaired vaccine-induced protective response. Then, I demonstrated that IL-22 induced antimicrobial peptides (AMPs) secretion by epithelial cells. These AMPs killed H pylori in vitro. In conclusion, I showed that both inflammatory monocytes and IL-22 participated to the vaccine induced reduction of Helicobacter infection. In addition, I demonstrated that the epithelium along with inflammation induced by Thl7 response is a critical factor mediating reduction of Helicobacter infection.

Study of the skin anatomy with high-frequency (22 MHz) ultrasonography and histological correlation

AbstractThe present essay is aimed at getting the radiologist familiar with the basic histological skin structure, allowing for a better correlation with sonographic findings. A high-frequency (22 MHz) ultrasonography apparatus was utilized in the present study. The histological analysis was performed after the skin specimens fixation with formalin, inclusion in paraffin blocks and subsequent staining with hematoxylin-eosin. The authors present a literature review showing the relationship between sonographic and histological findings in normal cutaneous tissue, and discuss the technique for a better performance of the sonographic scan. High-frequency ultrasonography is an excellent tool for the diagnosis of different skin conditions. However, as this method is operator-dependent, it is crucial to understand the normal skin structure as well as the correlation between histological and sonographic findings.

Preparación y caracterización de la zeolita MCM-22 y de su precursor laminar

The layered precursor of MCM-22 was prepared with different Si/Al ratios: 15, 25, 50, 100 and ¥. Upon heat treatment these precursors form MCM-22 zeolite. Both layered precursor and MCM-22 zeolite were characterized by several techniques: Chemical Analysis by Atomic Absorption Spectroscopy (AAS), X-Ray Diffraction (XRD), Thermo-gravimetric Analysis (TGA), Pore Analysis by N2 and Ar adsorption, Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Infrared Spectroscopy (IR) and Temperature Programmed Desorption of ammonium (TPD).

Evaluación de la estructura porosa de los materiales MCM-22, MCM-36 e ITQ-2 empleando el test catalitico del n-decano

The void structure of zeolites MCM-22, MCM-36 and ITQ-2 were discussed on the bases of catalytic reaction tests. The hydromerization of n-decane on bifunctional Pt/Zeolite Catalysts have been used as model reactions. Beta and ZSM-5 zeolites were used for comparison. It is concluded that all materials show features of 10MR zeolites and have also pores bigger than 12MR in this order MCM-22

Prinsessa Ruusunen, opus 22

Näytelmämusiikki Prinsessa Ruusunen kuuluu säveltäjä Erkki Melartinin (1875-1937) varhaistuotantoon; teoksen valmistuessa vuonna 1904 hän oli 29-vuotias. Melartin sävelsi Prinsessa Ruususen Topeliuksen tekstiin, ja sen kantaesitys oli Suomalaisessa teatterissa 4.1.1905. Teoksen tunnetuimmaksi osaksi on tullut Juhlamarssi, joka on saavuttanut suuren suosion häämarssina. Myöhemmin Melartin muokkasi teoksesta myös orkesterisarjan. Erkki Melartin on maamme säveltaiteen moniulotteisimpia hahmoja. Sävellystyön lisäksi hän toimi laaja-alaisesti kulttuurielämässä, hoiti useita hallinnollisia tehtäviä sekä julkaisi aforismikokoelman ja muita kirjoituksia. Hänen sävelkielensä on myöhäisromanttista, mutta siinä on niin impressionistisia kuin ekspressionistisiakin viitteitä. Melartinin laajaan tuotantoon kuuluu useita orkesteriteoksia ja satoja pianoteoksia. Myös näyttämötaide kiinnosti Melartinia, ja hän sävelsikin musiikin noin 20 näytelmään.
