In this paper, the impact of interference from multiple licensed transceivers on cognitive underlay single carrier systems is examined. Specifically, the situation is considered in which the secondary network is limited by three key parameters: 1) maximum transmit power at the secondary transmitter, 2) peak interference power at the primary receivers, and 3) interference power from the primary transmitters. For this cognitive underlay single carrier system, the signal-to-interference ratio (SIR) of the secondary network is obtained for transmission over frequency selective fading channels. Based on this, a new closedform expression for the cumulative distribution function of the SIR is evaluated, from which the outage probability and the ergodic capacity are derived. Further insights are established by analyzing the asymptotic outage probability and the asymptotic ergodic capacity in the high transmission power regime. In particular, it is corroborated that the asymptotic outage diversity gain is equal to the multipath gain of the frequency selective channel in the secondary network. The asymptotic ergodic capacity also gives new insight into the additional power cost for different network parameters while maintaining a specified target ergodic capacity. Illustrative numerical examples are presented to validate the outage probability and ergodic capacity under different interference power profiles.

In this paper, we propose physical layer security for cooperative cognitive radio networks (CCRNs) with relay selection in the presence of multiple primary users and multiple eavesdroppers. To be specific, we propose three relay selection schemes, namely, opportunistic relay selection (ORS), suboptimal relay selection (SoRS), and partial relay selection (PRS) for secured CCRNs, which are based on the availability of channel state information (CSI) at the receivers. For each approach, we derive exact and asymptotic expressions for the secrecy outage probability. Results show that under the assumption of perfect CSI, ORS outperforms both SoRS and PRS.

We consider a collision-sensitive secondary system that intends to opportunistically aggregate and utilize spectrum of a primary system to achieve higher data rates. In such opportunistic spectrum access, secondary transmission can collide with primary transmission. When the secondary system aggregates more channels for data transmission, more frequent collisions may occur, limiting the performance obtained by the opportunistic spectrum aggregation. In this context, dynamic spectrum aggregation problem is formulated to maximize the ergodic channel capacity under the constraint of collision tolerable level. To solve the problem, we develop the optimal spectrum aggregation approach, deriving closed-form expressions for the collision probability in terms of primary user traffic load, secondary user transmission interval, and the random number of sub-channels aggregated. Our results show that aggregating only a subset of sub-channels will be a better choice, depending on the ratio of collision sensitivity requirement to the primary user traffic.

In this paper, the impact of hardware impairments on secrecy performance of cognitive MIMO schemes is investigated. In addition, the relay which helps the source forward the source signal to the destination can operate either half-duplex mode or full-duplex mode. For performance evaluation, we give the expressions of average secrecy rate over Rayleigh fading channel. Monte-Carlo simulations are presented to compare and optimize the performance of the proposed schemes.

Cognitive radio (CR) with spectrum-sharing has been envisioned as emerging technology for the next generation of mobile and wireless networks by allowing the unlicensed customers simultaneously utilize the licensed radio frequency spectrums. However, the CR has faced some practical challenges due to its deduced system performance as compared to non spectrum-sharing counterpart. In this paper, we therefore consider the potential of incorporating the cooperative communications into CR by introducing the concept of reactive multiple decode-and-forward (DF) relays. In particular, we derive new results for exact and asymptotic expressions for the performance of cognitive relay networks with K-th best relay selection. Our novel results have exhibited the significance of using relay networks to enhance the system performance of CR.

Background
When asked to solve mathematical problems, some people experience anxiety and threat, which can lead to impaired mathematical performance (Curr Dir Psychol Sci 11:181–185, 2002). The present studies investigated the link between mathematical anxiety and performance on the cognitive reflection test (CRT; J Econ Perspect 19:25–42, 2005). The CRT is a measure of a person’s ability to resist intuitive response tendencies, and it correlates strongly with important real-life outcomes, such as time preferences, risk-taking, and rational thinking.

Methods
In Experiments 1 and 2 the relationships between maths anxiety, mathematical knowledge/mathematical achievement, test anxiety and cognitive reflection were analysed using mediation analyses. Experiment 3 included a manipulation of working memory load. The effects of anxiety and working memory load were analysed using ANOVAs.

Results
Our experiments with university students (Experiments 1 and 3) and secondary school students (Experiment 2) demonstrated that mathematical anxiety was a significant predictor of cognitive reflection, even after controlling for the effects of general mathematical knowledge (in Experiment 1), school mathematical achievement (in Experiment 2) and test anxiety (in Experiments 1–3). Furthermore, Experiment 3 showed that mathematical anxiety and burdening working memory resources with a secondary task had similar effects on cognitive reflection.

Conclusions
Given earlier findings that showed a close link between cognitive reflection, unbiased decisions and rationality, our results suggest that mathematical anxiety might be negatively related to individuals’ ability to make advantageous choices and good decisions.

Cognitive decline has a profound impact on the health and quality of life of older people and their caregivers. Exploring mechanisms to delay cognitive decline has become an urgent economic priority, given the projected changes in population demographics. Systematic reviews and meta-analyses of observational studies suggest that adherence to a Mediterranean Diet (MD) is associated with reduced cognitive decline, but such an observation needs to be tested in randomised controlled trials. Intervention evidence is currently limited, and future studies need to be adequately powered, with careful attention given to choice of participants, outcomes being assessed, study duration and strategies to achieve compliance. Alongside these studies, consideration has to be given to how best promote and encourage dietary change in older people in general, and particularly in those experiencing the early stages of cognitive decline, as there may be specific factors that need to be considered when designing lifestyle behaviour change interventions in this group.

This is the protocol for a review and there is no abstract. The objectives are as follows:

The primary objective of this review is to evaluate the effects of non-pharmacological interventions among cancer patients targeted at maintaining cognitive function or ameliorating cognitive impairment as a result of cancer or receipt of systemic cancer treatment (i.e. chemotherapy or hormonal therapies in isolation or combination with other treatments). Patients who have received treatments such as cranial radiation for central nervous system tumours or metastases are not the focus of this review and will be excluded.

A second objective is to evaluate the effectiveness of non-pharmacological interventions for improving non-cognitive outcomes e.g. quality of life among this population.

Thirdly, we will extract and analyse data regarding the duration of intervention effects.

Fourthly, we will examine each study to identify safety as an outcome and incorporate information on intervention safety where possible. Evidence for the review will be based on data from randomised trials.

We consider transmit antenna selection (TAS) in cognitive multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) relay networks, as an interference-aware design for secondary users (SUs) to ensure power and interference constraints of multiple primary users (PUs). In doing so, we derive new exact and asymptotic expressions for the outage probability of TAS with maximal ratio combining (TAS/MRC) and with selection combining (TAS/SC) over Rayleigh fading. The proposed analysis and simulations highlight that TAS/MRC and TAS/SC with decode-and-forward relaying achieve the same diversity order in cognitive MIMO networks, which scales with the minimum number of antennas at the SUs. Furthermore, we accurately characterize the outage gap between TAS/MRC and TAS/SC relaying as a concise ratio of their array gains.

This letter proposes several relay selection policies for secure communication in cognitive decode-and-forward (DF) relay networks, where a pair of cognitive relays are opportunistically selected for security protection against eavesdropping. The first relay transmits the secrecy information to the destination,
and the second relay, as a friendly jammer, transmits the jamming signal to confound the eavesdropper. We present new exact closed-form expressions for the secrecy outage probability. Our analysis and simulation results strongly support our conclusion that the proposed relay selection policies can enhance the performance of secure cognitive radio. We also confirm that the error floor phenomenon is created in the absence of jamming.
