An anisotropic elastic-plastic constitutive model for single and polycrystalline metals .1. Theoretical developments

An anisotropic elastic-plastic constitutive model for single and polycrystalline metals is proposed. The anisotropic hardening of single crystals, at first, is discussed with the viewpoint of yield surface and a new formulation of it is proposed. Then, a model for the anisotropic hardening of polycrystals is suggested by increasing the number of slip systems and incorporating the interaction of all slip systems. The interaction of grains through grain boundaries is shown to be similar to, and incorporated into, the interaction of slip systems in grains. The numerical predictions and their comparisons with experiments will follow in Part II of this paper.

Mixed-mode fracture mechanisms near the fatigue threshold of aisi-316 stainless-steel

Near threshold, mixed mode (I and II), fatigue crack growth occurs mainly by two mechanisms, coplanar (or shear) mode and branch (or tensile) mode. For a constant ratio of ΔK_I/ΔK_II the shear mode growth shows a self-arrest character and it would only start again when ΔK_I and ΔK_II are increased. Both shear crack growth and the early stages of tensile crack growth, are of a crystallographic nature; the fatigue crack proceeds along slip planes or grain boundaries. The appearance of the fracture surfaces suggest that the mechanism of crack extension is by developing slip band microcracks which join up to form a macrocrack. This process is thought to be assisted by the nature of the plastic deformation within the reversed plastic zone where high back stresses are set up by dislocation pile-ups against grain boundaries. The interaction of the crack tip stress field with that of the dislocation pile-ups leads to the formation of slip band microcracks and subsequent crack extension. The change from shear mode to tensile mode growth probably occurs when the maximum tensile stress and the microcrack density in the maximum tensile plane direction attain critical values.

Realiza revisão histórica da evolução das propostas de representação política nos séculos XIX e XX, com destaque para a representação proporcional no mundo e no Brasil e para as obras de Joaquim Francisco de Assis Brasil e de João C. Da Rocha Cabral. Analisa os trabalhos da Comissão responsável pela elaboração do Código Eleitoral de 1932, seu conteúdo e normas auxiliares. Aborda a questão da representação na Constituição de 1934 e a discussão de contestação do tratamento dado pelo Código de 1932 à representação proporcional. Esses debates conduzirão à revisão do código por parte do Congresso Nacional entre 1934 e 1935. Essa revisão, abordada em detalhes pela primeira vez entre trabalhos acadêmicos, levou à aprovação da Lei nº 48 de 1935, que é desde então a base do sistema nacional. Por fim, é abordado como a Lei nº 48 serviu de base para o Decreto-Lei 7.586 de 1945 (Lei Agamenon) e os códigos eleitorais que vieram posteriormente.

Pravastatin inhibits cell proliferation and increased MAT1A expression in hepatocarcinoma cells and in vivo models

Background: Statins may have therapeutic effects on hepatocarcinoma (HCC). This type of disorder is the most common malignant primary tumour in the liver. Our objective was to determine whether pravastatin had a therapeutic effect in vitro and in vivo models. Method: We design in vitro and in vivo model. In vitro we used PLC and determine cell proliferation. In vivo, we used and animal model to determined, PCNA and MAT1A expression and transaminases levels. Results: We found that pravastatin decreases cell proliferation in vitro (cell proliferation in pravastatin group was 82%, in sorafenib group 51% and in combined group 40%) and in vivo (in pravastatin group 80%, in sorafenib group 76.4% and in combined group 72.72%). The MAT1A levels, was significantly higher in Pravastatin group (D 62%, P 94%, S 71%, P + S 91%). The transaminases levels, decreased significantly in Pravastatin group (GOT and GPT levels D 619.5 U/L; 271 U/L) (P 117.5 U/L; 43.5 U/L) (S 147 U/L; 59 U/L) (P + S 142 U/L; 59 U/L). Conclusion: The combination of pravastatin + sorafenib were more effective than Sorafenib alone.

Records of hydrologic data, Walton County, Florida

This report presents discharge, chemical analyses, temperatures, and specific conductance records collected at 25 surface-water sites and chemical analyses of ground water, well descriptions and records of ground-water levels collected at 164 ground-water sites. It also contains 35 logs of the sedimentary rocks penetrated in the drilling of wells and test borings ranging in depth from 147 to 625 feet. These hydrologic data were collected as part of an investigation of the water resources of the county. The interpretative results of the investigation are in the report entitled, "Water resources of Walton County," by C. A. Pascale (in preparation, 1971). (108 page document)

Review of river fisheries valuation in tropical Asia

This study attempts to estimate the economic value of riverine fisheries in tropical Asia and quantify the economic impacts of any changes to the environment that affects rivers and hence fisheries. The value of riverine fisheries has been considered in the following two ways: firstly, through a compilation and summary of the results of existing studies on this topic; secondly, by estimating the direct use value of riverine and floodplain fishing by country using quantities and freshwater fish prices derived from various sources. Furthermore, a review of the characteristics of the fisheries is presented. These fisheries have been shown to be valuable (i.e., economically or socially important) in at least two specific ways: as a generator of commercially marketable output, and as a source of income and employment in relatively impoverished communities.
