The National Council on Ageing and Older People has long been concerned about the quality of long-term residential care for older people in Ireland. Towards a Standardised Framework for Inter-Country Adoption - Assessment Procedures

In the first part the background on inter-country adoption and assessment of prospective adopters are considered in general terms in Chapters Two and Three respectively. The second chapter places the objectives of the research into context. Due to the declining numbers of children being put forward for domestic adoption, there is increasing recourse to inter-country adoption. An overview of the situation is outlined. The legislation section outlines both Irish legislation and the pivotal international agreement relevant to inter-country adoption, namely the Hague Convention. Statistical tests for scaling in the inter-event times of earthquakes in California

We explore in depth the validity of a recently proposed scaling law for earthquake inter-event time distributions in the case of the Southern California, using the waveform cross-correlation catalog of Shearer et al. Two statistical tests are used: on the one hand, the standard two-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov test is in agreement with the scaling of the distributions. On the other hand, the one-sample Kolmogorov-Smirnov statistic complemented with Monte Carlo simulation of the inter-event times, as done by Clauset et al., supports the validity of the gamma distribution as a simple model of the scaling function appearing on the scaling law, for rescaled inter-event times above 0.01, except for the largest data set (magnitude greater than 2). A discussion of these results is provided.

A Framework for Major Emergency Management

Major emergency management is a key challenge and a priority issue for Government. Clearly, the world in which we live is constantly changing and we need to develop our major emergency management architecture to enable us to deal effectively with the possibility of new risks and threats. In the last few years most European Countries have engaged in review and development of their major emergency or civil protection arrangements. This new Framework for Major Emergency Management moves in line with international trends in this field. Healthy Ireland - A Framework for Improved Health and Wellbeing 2013 - 2025

Healthy Ireland is a new national framework for action to improve the health and wellbeing of our country over the coming generation. Based on international evidence, it outlines a new commitment to public health with a considerable emphasis on prevention, while at the same time advocating for stronger health systems. It provides for new arrangements to ensure effective co-operation between the health sector and other areas of Government and public services, concerned with social protection, children, business, food safety, education, housing, transport and the environment. It also invites the private and voluntary sector to participate through well-supported and mutually beneficial partnerships. Disseny i implementació d'un marc de treball (framework) de presentació per aplicacions J2EE : Jewel Framework

El present projecte tracta sobre el desenvolupament d'un marc de treball o framework per la capa de presentació d'aplicacions J2EE.En un primer bloc, s'analitzen els frameworks més utilitzats al món empresarial a dia d'avui: Struts 2, Spring MVC i JavaServer Faces. S'estudia com funcionen i les característiques principals de cada un, comparant-les per veure quines són comuns a tots i es consideren imprescindibles per un framework d'aquest tipus. A més, es fa un anàlisi exhaustiu dels patrons J2EE i les bones pràctiques que poden aportar al projecte.El segon bloc del projecte és el desenvolupament de Jewel Framework, el marc de treball que s'ha creat. Primer, s'analitza quines són les funcionalitats que ha de complir el framework i es fa un disseny de l'arquitectura i estructura que segueix. Després, s'implementa seguint el disseny i tenint cura que es compleixin tots els requisits, tant funcionals com de qualitat del producte. Finalment, es dissenya i desenvolupa una aplicació d'exemple que demostra la usabilitat i bon funcionament de Jewel.
