Development of pure and doped gamma ferric oxide

Optimum conditions and experimental details for the formation of v-Fe203 from goethite have been worked out. In another method, a cheap complexing medium of starch was employed for precipitating acicular ferrous oxalate, which on decomposition in nitrogen and subsequent oxidation yielded acicular y-Fe203. On the basis of thermal decomposition in dry and moist nitrogen, DTA, XRD, GC and thermodynamic arguments, the mechanism of decomposition was elucidated. New materials obtained by doping ~'-Fe203 with 1-16 atomic percent magnesium, cobalt, nickel and copper, were synthesised and characterized

Shifts of electronic KX-rays in muonic atoms

Energies of electronic K X-rays in muonic atoms were calculated for muons in various outer orbitals and for different numbers of electrons. Energy shifts were obtained with respect to characteristic X-rays belonging to nuclear charge (Z - 1) and their possible observation is discussed. The shifts in muonic Sn as an example amount to 19, 37, and 59 eV for the muon in 5g, 6h, and 7i states respectively. However, shifts due to the number of electrons present and the electron vacancy distribution in the L-shell are significantly larger. Accurate measurements of the K X-ray energies would therefore enable us to learn more about the electronic structure during the muonic cascade.

Interpretation of quasimolecular L X-rays in heavy-ion collisions

Using a relativistic selfconsistent correlation diagram a first interpretation of the shape and position of L MO X-rays is given within a quasi-adiabatic model.

Interpretation of noncharacteristic M X-rays in heavy colliding systems by selfconsistent relativistic molecular calculations

The result of the first calculation of a self-consistent relativistic many electron correlation diagram ever done (for the system Au - I) leads to a good agreement of the spectral shape and position of the observed noncharacteristic X-rays within the quasi adiabatic model.

Kinematic dipole model for the anisotropy of quasimolecular X-rays

For the angular dependence of quasimolecular X-ray emission in heavy ion colliding systems we present a semiclassical adiabatic model taking into account spontaneous dipole radiation. Using the most characteristic levels from a DFS-correlation diagram we are able to explain the behaviour of the observed anisotropy.

The problem of noncharacteristic quasimolecular X-rays in heavy ion collision

Quasi-molecular X-rays observed in heavy ion collisions are interpreted within a relativistic calculation of correlation diagrams using the Dirac-Slater model. A semiquantitative description of noncharacteristic M X rays is given for the system Au-I.

On the V(subscript gamma) Dimension for Regression in Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces

This paper presents a computation of the $V_gamma$ dimension for regression in bounded subspaces of Reproducing Kernel Hilbert Spaces (RKHS) for the Support Vector Machine (SVM) regression $epsilon$-insensitive loss function, and general $L_p$ loss functions. Finiteness of the RV_gamma$ dimension is shown, which also proves uniform convergence in probability for regression machines in RKHS subspaces that use the $L_epsilon$ or general $L_p$ loss functions. This paper presenta a novel proof of this result also for the case that a bias is added to the functions in the RKHS.

Interferón gamma en el manejo de la enfermedad granulomatosa crónica en el paciente pediátrico

Antecedentes: La enfermedad granulomatosa crónica aumenta el riesgo de infecciones. El interferón gamma se ha venido utilizando como parte del tratamiento; sin embargo, su eficacia no ha sido explorada por una revisión sistemática. Objetivo: Determinar y analizar la eficacia del uso del interferón gamma en el manejo de pacientes en edad pediátrica con diagnóstico de enfermedad granulomatosa crónica. Metodología: Se realizó una revisión sistemática de la literatura. La búsqueda se hizo en cuatro bases de datos y un registro público de ensayos clínicos. Se realizó un enfoque cualitativo y cuantitativo. Para variables cualitativas se emplearon como indicadores el riesgo relativo y para las cuantitativas la diferencia del promedio. Resultados: Se incluyeron tres estudios, dos de ellos estudios no aleatorizados. Un solo ensayo clínico de buena calidad mostró evidencia sobre la utilidad del uso del interferón en la reducción de la infección severa. Conclusión: Es posible que el uso del interferón gamma se relacione con mejoría de varios desenlaces clínicos del paciente. Es necesario realizar más ensayos clínicos controlados de buena calidad que permitan explorar la eficacia del tratamiento en esta indicación. Gamma-EC : una herramienta para formar a los mandos intermedios de las escuelas de bomberos.

El proyecto Gammma-EC recibe fondos europeos para conseguir el objetivo de mejorar la formación de los mandos intermedios de las escuelas de bomberos de 4 paises de la Comunidad Europea (España, Francia, Italia, Países Bajos). El objetivo del proyecto es diseñar dos herramientas: un programa multimédia y un juego de simulación. Las temáticas que se abordan son los grandes fuegos forestales y los accidentes químicos.

Hints for a fast precessing relativistic radio jet in LS I + 61° 303

Here we discuss two consecutive MERLIN observations of the X-ray binary LS I +61° 303 . The first observation shows a double-sided jet extending up to about 200 AU on both sides of a central source. The jet shows a bent S-shaped structure similar to the one displayed by the well-known precessing jet of SS 433 . The precession suggested in the first MERLIN image becomes evident in the second one, showing a one-sided bent jet significantly rotated with respect to the jet of the day before. We conclude that the derived precession of the relativistic (beta=0.6) jet explains puzzling previous VLBI results. Moreover, the fact that the precession is fast could be the explanation of the never understood short term (days) variability of the associated gamma-ray source 2CG 135+01 / 3EG J0241+6103
