O bacuri (Platonia insignis Mart.), tucum (Astrocaryum vulgare Mart.) e a murta verdadeira (Myrcia selloi (Spreng.) N. Silveira, foram às principais espécies associadas.

Xylella fastidiosa is responsible for several economically important plant diseases. It is currently assumed that the symptoms are caused by vascular occlusion due to biofilm formation. Microarray technology was previously used to examine the global gene expression profile of X. filstidiosa freshly isolated from symptomatic plants or after several passages by axenic culture medium, and different pathogenicity profiles have been obtained. In the present study the expression of some pathogenicity-related genes was evaluated in vitro and in planta by RT-PCR. The results suggest that adhesion is important at the beginning of biofilm formation, while the genes related to adaptation are essential for the organism's maintenance in planta. Similar results were observed in vitro mainly for the adhesion genes. The pattern of expression observed suggests that adhesion modulates biofilm formation whereas the expression of some adaptation genes may be related to the environment in which the organism is living.

In this work it was demanded to verify the zinc critical levels in soybean plants cultivated in a Dark-Red Latosol. So the experiment was carried out in vases with 4 liters of soil, which has received five doses of Zn (0, 1.0, 2.0, 3.0 and 4.0 ppm) in three correction levels. It was verified that the critical levels of the nutrient in plant (for 90% from highest production) was between 36 and 53 ppm to the dry matter yield and grains in treatments with correction.

The objective of this study was to evaluate the influence of maturity on the production, stalk/leaf/ear relationship, chemical composition, and quality of corn silage (Zen mays, L.). Four harvests were made from the early milk (23.49% DM) to the semi-hard dough stage. (30.70%DM). After these evaluations, the corn was ensiled in 200 liter metal drums. After six months of storage, the quality of the silages was determined. The corn dry matter production was higher at the dough and semi-hard dough stages (9866 and 9896 t/ha, respectively) than in the early milk stage (7460 t/ha). The ears with the maturity showed a increase in dry matter (20.93 to 43.51%), acid detergent fiber decrease (32.46 to 18.62%), and maintainance of the crude protein content (average = 8.27%). The stalks and leaves decreased from 33.31 to 27.18% and from 34.17 to 23.66%, respectively, while the ears increased from 32.52 to 49.16% from the early milk to the semi-hard dough stages. All experimental silages attained good quality, independent of corn development stages. The corn can be ensiled from the early milk and soft dough stages without a decrease in silage quality, but the restricting factor under those conditions was a lower dry matter content (24.35 and 28.65%, respectively).

The chemical, biological, pharmacological and toxicological study of plants used in medical treatments by different societies around the world has been intensifying over the years, primarily in the search for new herbal, homeopathic or even allopathic medicines. Motivated by this interest, we are investigating some Brazilian plant species, among them a tree, Brosimum gaudichaudii Trecul (Moraceae), found in Brazil's savannah-like prairies and scrub-forest (cerrado) and mesophytic forest. Several extracts have been made and separated into fractions and some compounds have been isolated - principally coumarins - and their respective structures analyzed by spectrophotometric and other methods. By collaborating with researchers in other fields, we have been able to carry out various bioassays and even basic clinical tests, namely: determination of anti-helminthic, anti-microbial, photosensitizing, anticancer and mutagenic activities, toxicological and pathogenic studies, with the aim of discovering a genuinely Brazilian herbal or homeopathic medicine.

Brazil is one of the main centers of genetic variability dispersion of the Passiflora genera. Its self incompatibility as well as disease incidence in its leaves and root system and, deforestation and monocultivation, promote loss of genetic material. Considering the risk of genetic erosion, the conservation of the variability in germplasm banks, which is of great interest in plant breeding, is necessary. Studies regarding the type of expiant and concentration of the culture media are necessary in order to determine protocols of establishment and in vitro conservation of passion-fruit germplasm. The objective of the present work was to evaluate the influence of the salt and nutrient concentration in the MS culture medium and types of expiants in the establishment and growth of the Passion fruit species: Passiflora giberti N. E.Brown, P. edulis Sims and P. laurifolia L. Each Passiflora species presented its own characteristics regarding in vitro development. The complete MS medium and nodal segments the second axilliary bud promoted better development of the genotypes studied.
