Over the last decades of the 20th century, our society started an endless search for an ideal of beauty, advertised intensely by mass communication media. The concept of beauty pursued is being young, beautiful and thin. Thus, teenagers eventually die in the search for an ideal of body dominated by fat-fearing ideas. This article is a report about the field experience, during the collection of data for elaborating our Master’s Degree Dissertation on anorexia and adolescence. We went through an internship in an Eating Disease Program of a Mental Health Ambulatory from a Public University in the State of Sao Paulo, where we were able to experience the service organization, attention to users and the experience of anorexia, by the users in treatment. As the main result from this experience, it is possible to indicate the clientele profile, comprised predominantly by teenage girls, obsessed with the incessant pursuit of being thinner.

Inquérito de suplementação nutricional e experiência no treinamento resistido entre jovens do interior e litoral paulista

To the practitioners of resistance exercise, a better performance is associated with nutritional habits and the help of nutritional supplements. Whatever, this use has been made improperly and without foundation, advised by persons not trained, leading to misuse. To analyze the profile of practitioners in the knowledge of and access to supplements, as well as knowledge about the sport and the need to use additional food resources. A questionnaire will be used to youths aged 15 to 21 consumers of nutritional supplements on the sports, the substance used, why the substance used, who appointed her, which substances have been used, satisfaction with that product, and socioeconomic characteristics of the individual. The data will be correlated by Pearson's correlation coefficient. It is expected that the abuse of supplements is associated with ease by socioeconomic status and experience in the sport for the little progress with the adoption of a routine training exercise in the circumstances only. The major difference compared to the goal of practice, was the motivation for the improvement of physical fitness (Guaruja 21% and Bauru 9.6%), with the intention of increasing muscle mass response occurring closer (Guaruja 22% and Bauru 19.2%) among respondents, and reported more emphasis on the Interior Health (17.3%). The use of supplements is somewhat similar to trends involving body aesthetics and fitness for participation in sports, in the Coast (hypertrophy: 33% body fat reduction, improved endurance and improved performance in sports: 20%), and beauty, fitness and health, the Interior (hypertrophy: 41% increase in strength: 22%, and quality of life: 15%). Report of 15 injuries caused by lionfish (pterois volitans) in aquarists in Brazil: a critical assessment of the severity of envenomations

Lionfish are venomous fish that belong to the Scorpaenidae family. Individuals of this family and those of the Synanceiidae family comprise most of the existing venomous fish in the world. Lionfish are originally found in the Indo-Pacific, but they have received special attention in the last years for their dissemination in the Atlantic Ocean, with the emergence of large populations in the USA, Caribbean and South America. Because of its beauty, this fish has always been present in private and commercial aquariums around the world. Herein, we describe 15 envenomations in aquarists registered in a period of eighteen years (1997-2014). The stings caused excruciating pain and marked inflammation, with local erythema, edema, heat, paleness and cyanosis. In one case, it was possible to observe vesicles and blisters. There were no skin necroses or marked systemic manifestations. We discuss the possible coming of the fish to South America and the circumstances and clinical impact of the envenomations.

Regular physical activity can prevent and treat various diseases and non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, obesity and cardiovascular disease. However, the prevalence of physical inactivity among adolescents in Rio Claro is 83%. Thus, it is necessary to encourage physical atividade through the community, especially parents and schools. The objective was to investigate the influence of two types of gym class in functional abilities in high school students in the city of Rio Claro-SP. Methodology: The study included 20 students from high school, 8 boys and 12 girls. The study took place in two high school halls of a public school in the city of Rio Claro. With the collaboration and participation in only 10 students in each room search reviews of all students occurred in mid-July in the year 2012 with the completion of the battery of tests and application of PAQ-C questionnaire at the beginning of classes of and after three months. All students were subjected to the test battery Eurofit. To compare the values of physical fitness for each type of class was held factorial ANOVA for repeated measures using SPSS and the level of physical activity was performed the Wilcoxon test. Smile restoration through use of enamel microabrasion associated with tooth bleaching

Enamel microabrasion can eliminate enamel irregularities and discoloration defects, improving the appearance of teeth. This article presents the latest treatment protocol of enamel microabrasion to remove stains on the enamel surface. It has been verified that teeth submitted to microabrasion acquire a yellowish color because of the thinness of the remaining enamel, revealing the color of dentinal tissue to a greater degree. In these clinical conditions, correction of the color pattern of these teeth can be obtained with a considerable margin of clinical success using products containing carbamide peroxide in custom trays. Thus, patients can benefit from combined enamel microabrasion/tooth bleaching therapy, which yields attractive cosmetic results. Esthetics plays an important role in contemporary dentistry, especially because the media emphasizes beauty and health. Currently, in many countries, a smile is considered beautiful if it imitates a natural appearance, with clear, well-aligned teeth and defined anatomical shapes.1-3 Enamel microabrasion is one technique that can be used to correct discolored enamel. This technique has been elucidated and strongly advocated by Croll and Cavanaugh since 1986,4 and by other investigators1,2,5-13 who suggested mechanical removal of enamel stains using acidic substances in conjunction with abrasive agents. Enamel microabrasion is indicated to remove intrinsic stains of any color and of hard texture, and is contraindicated for extrinsic stains, dentinal stains, for patients with deficient labial seals, and in cases where there is no possibility to place a rubber dam adequately during the microabrasion procedure.1,2 It should be emphasized that enamel microabrasion causes a microreduction on the enamel surface,3,6,10 and, in some cases, teeth submitted to microabrasion may appear a darker or yellowish color because the thin remaining enamel surface can reveal some of the dentinal tissue color. We can see a current increase in individuals' body care in our society. What happened predominantly with the female audience, today also affects the male one. This increase has recently been linked to the required and exposed standards of beauty by the consumer's culture. The media reinforce this ideology by exhibiting non-fat, Strong bodies. This huge appreciation of beauty in our time has generated numerous disorders related to body image. The vigorexia is one of these disorders and it is predominantly characterized in men, and it has defined in the literature as muscle dysmorphic disorder. Such disorder is generated through a self-distorted perception of the body in which the individual sees his body smaller than it really is, and thereby creates various strategies to increase their body size. One of these strategies has been the use of anabolic androgenic steroids, such substances assist in muscle protein synthesis, thus leading to hypertrophy. Thus, the subjects are released for use with the sense to accelerate his path to the perfect body. Warning that the rampant use of anabolic-androgenic steroids can lead to serious health problems. So, this study is justified by the investigation of the mechanisms that act directly in the construction of body image and by the understanding of the aspects that guide the vigorexia and also how it's related to the use of androgenic anabolic steroids

Assoreamento de lago integrante da sub-baciado Córrego da Cascata, Botucatu, SP: implicações morfométricas

The watershed is considered a unit of territorial study, planning and land management, and is molded by the local geologic conditions and climate. Thus, this study aimed to assess the morphometric features of the subwatershed of Cascata Stream, in Botucatu (SP), and their implications for the siltation process in a lake. The assessment included indexes generated from data calculated by means of a digitalized cartographic basis georeferenced on the 1:10,000 scale using the software AutoCad map 2004. The software Quantum GIS 1.8 was also employed to generate the digital elevation model (DEM) and the map of declivities which led to the mean declivity (Dm) of the subwatershed. According to the indexes form factor (Kf), sinuosity (Is), circularity (Ic) and compacity coefficient (Kc), the subwatershed had elongated form, low propensity to floods and rapid flow. The draining density (Dd) and relief ratio (Rr) indicated more efficient mean drainage, favoring higher desiccation and mean erosive stage. The roughness coefficient (Cr) indicated that this subwatershed is suited to agriculture. The anthropic intervention at the watershed dividing line is the major factor for sediment carrying in the lake and compromises not only the landscape beauty, but also the aquatic life of this ecosystem.
