The apnea and hypopnea sleep obstructive syndrome is a disorder that affects part of adult population. Some characteristics can come with this syndrome that cause social problems such as snoring and excessive daytime sleepiness, associated many times with pulmonary hypertension and cardiac insufficiency. The dentist who is inserted into a multidisciplinary team is a professional highly regarded for diagnosis and treatment of sleep disorders. Among treatments recommended, therapy with intraoral appliance shows an excellent non invasive alternative, achieving satisfactory results.

Periodontal therapy has undergone significant changes in recent decades. While in the past the only goal was to restore gingival health, with no concern about the possible consequences of the disease treatment, currently the procedures are performed in a less invasive manner, to maintain aesthetic periodontal results or even recover them. Gingival recession is an alteration frequently found in patients and may be a complaint for causing various complications. For their treatment, several surgical techniques are reported in the literature. The techniques that are more predictable are those that associate a subepithelial connective tissue graft and a coronally repositioned flap. The original technique consists in performing two vertical incisions for an extensive release of the flap and its stabilization in a coronal position. Although this procedure is extremely widespread in the literature, the search for less invasive surgeries without the use of vertical incisions are the current aim of periodontal plastic surgeries, since they present several advantages. The aim of this paper is to demonstrate a case where adjacent, deep and multiple recessions were present resulting in aesthetic problems, which was resolved by a less invasive approach using a surgical technique in envelope and a subepithelial connective tissue graft.

Gingival recession has a high prevalence in the population. This alteration may promote several complications such as cervical dentinal hypersensitivity (HSDC), carious and non-carious cervical lesions, and cosmetic changes due to the increase of the clinical crown length. To treat HSDC there are several therapeutic possibilities that should aim to eliminate pain after external stimulus. Treatment of this alteration can be performed by a conventional or invasive procedure, depending on the clinical condition and patients' desires. In situations where aesthetics is not the main complaint and HSDC persists even after conservative procedures, it is possible to indicate a procedure to achieve root coverage in Miller's Class I and II recessions. The aim of this paper is to report a case where the HSDC was not eliminated by conventional methods, which was resolved only after performing a minimally invasive surgery that promoted total root coverage.

We tried to analyze in this paper the meaning of silence into the analytical setting, based in Winnicott’s proposal of psychoanalysis and from clinical experience fragments of one the authors. Therefore, we surveyed the meaning of silence in the setting for some psychoanalysts and, afterwards, we made reference mainly to the concepts related to Winnicott’s Theory of the Emotional Maturity, such as holding, handling, the presentation of objects, and those concerning hesitation and transitionality. We further availed ourselves of the concepts of transference and count transference to ponder on the therapeutic dyad into the analytical setting. Our final considerations point to the need to consider silence as an important communication in certain circumstances of the therapeutic work, as well as suggesting that the setting, in this case study, requested hopeful non-invasive approach of the therapist, to allow the appearance of transitional space through which the emotional maturity can be resumed in this patient.

This paper describes the in vivo Bronchoalveolar lavage (BAL)technique by endoscopy in tapirs (Tapirus terrestris) with clinicalsigns of tuberculosis. The technique was performed in two tapirs, male and female, from Curitiba Zoo, Paraná, Brazil. A flexible endoscope and a polyethylene catheterwere used after the chemical restraint of the animals. For BAL technique, 60mL ofsaline 0.9% were infused with a polyethylene catheter, introduced by the endoscope'working channel, and 15mL of BAL were recovered, analyzed and submitted tocytocentrifugation. Slides were stained by Papanicolaou, periodic acid-Schiff (PAS)and Ziehl-Neelsen methods contained high quantity of inflammatory cells on lightmicroscopy (macrophages 27.5%, lymphocytes 0.5%, neutrophis 67% and eosinophis 5%).BAL samples were submitted to culture, bacilloscopy and PCR and were negative forboth animals. Based on this study, it was concluded that the bronchoalveolar lavagetechnique in tapirs is feasible, simple, noninvasive, practical and fast, providingan important clinical information in vivo regarding the functionalstatus of the lower respiratory tract.
