Histopathological and b-mode ultrasound characteristics in a primary canine duodenal adenocarcinoma - case report

Lower gastrointestinal tract neoplasms are rare in domestic animals, representing 3% of all biopsies and necropsies. Our objective is to describe the histopathological and B-mode ultrasound findings in a case of duodenal adenocarcinoma in a dog, since it commonly occurs in the large intestine. On ultrasound examination, there was transmural wall thickening in the duodenum with loss of layer structure, focal peritonitis and adenopathy. Histopathological examination of the intestinal mass revealed a malignant epithelial neoplasm, densely cellular and infiltrative, extending through the lamina propria, submucosa, muscle and hypodermis, characterizing a duodenal adenocarcinoma. We conclude that adenocarcinomas may be included in the differential diagnosis of transmural lesions in the duodenum in B-mode ultrasound examinations, but a laparotomy and biopsy are required for definitive diagnosis.

Iliac osteosynthesis with nylon clamp associated to polymethylmethacrylate bone cement - experimental study in dogs cadavers

Fractures of iliac body are generally consequences of traumas of great impact. These fractures lead to a lack of locomotor response and in specific cases, surgery is needed. Among the possible therapeutic lines, implants become a good option. In this paper, the authors used dog corpses to develop a surgery technique of iliac osteosynthesis, employing nylon clamps and bone cement of polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA). Sixteen hemi pelvises of eight dog corpses, which had its iliac bodies totally fractured previously, were utilized. The osteosynthesis was reached through the implantation of six nylon clamps, distributed equally between the bone fragments. With the use of the nylon clamps there were bone realignment and a contact surface to fixation of the biomaterial. The technique developed in corpses was easily executed, effective in reduction, alignment and stabilization of the fracture. The authors suggest more studies in vitro to evaluate immobilization resistance and functionality in dogs with this condition.

Reprodução e morfologia de Haddadus binotatus (Spix, 1824) (Anura, Craugastoridae) no litoral do Estado de São Paulo

Haddadus binotatus é uma espécie endêmica de Mata Atlântica e ocorre desde o sul de Pernambuco até o Rio Grande do Sul. Apesar da sua ampla distribuição pouco se conhece da história natural dessa espécie. Haddadus binotatus apresenta desenvolvimento direto e ovos são depositados sob a serapilheira ou sob troncos caídos. Há dimorfismo sexual, sendo as fêmeas maiores do que os machos. O objetivo desse estudo é conhecer os padrões reprodutivos de populações de H. binotatus no continente e em ilhas do litoral do estado de São Paulo. Os objetivos específicos são: 1) avaliar as diferenças morfológicas entre populações de H. binotatus entre ilhas e entre ilhas-continente, 2) avaliar se há dimorfismo sexual em cada população, e 3) comparar os padrões reprodutivos entre populações insulares e continentais. Neste estudo, foram utilizados exemplares de H. binotatus, depositados na coleção de Anfíbios (CFBH), do departamento de Zoologia, Instituto de Biociências, UNESP, Campus de Rio Claro. Os exemplares são provenientes de uma localidade no continente (São Sebastião) e três ilhas (Couves, Queimada Grande e Ilhabela). Os exemplares provenientes das ilhas, com exceção daqueles da Ilha das Couves, foram maiores do que os da Juréia. Houve dimorfismo sexual em todas as populações, sendo as fêmeas maiores. As populações insulares apresentam número de ovócitos menor do que a população do continente (Juréia). O número de ovócitos semelhante aos da população da Juréia foi registrado para uma população em Minas Gerais, reforçando o padrão de que populações insulares têm desovas menores. No entanto, não houve diferença no tamanho dos ovos. As diferenças encontradas para as populações insulares podem ser resultado de recursos mais limitados como espaço e alimento, pelo tamanho das presas e/ou ausência de predadores. Avaliação da segurança hepática e cardíaca do composto LYSO-07 – nova tiazolidinodiona

A introdução de um novo produto farmacêutico no mercado requer prévia realização de estudos pré-clínicos e clínicos, principalmente aqueles relacionados à toxicidade e segurança do novo composto e incluem a investigação de efeitos deletérios. Uma nova tiazolidinodiona (TZD) – lyso-07 - sintetizada pelo Laboratório de Planejamento e Síntese de Fármacos da Universidade Federal de Pernambuco foi submetida a testes em ratos wistar para avaliação de toxicidade. O estudo envolveu a utilização de 20 animais distribuídos em quatro grupos: água (1ml/0,25kg animal), suspensão (1ml/0,25kg animal), lyso-07 (4,5 mg/ml) e lyso-07 na dose equimolar da pioglitazona (3,58 mg/ml). Os resultados dos parâmetros ALT, AST, colesterol, creatinina, glicose e ureia nos grupos tratados com a lyso – 07 não apresentaram diferenças estatisticamente significativas em relação ao grupo controle, o que permite inferir que a nova molécula não apresentou hepatotoxicidade, nefrotoxicidade e disfunções dos níveis de colesterol e glicemia nas condições experimentais empregadas. Já os resultados de CK e CK-MB apresentaram resultados dispersos dentro e fora da normalidade descrita na literatura, dificultando a obtenção de resultados conclusivos quanto a cardiotoxicidade da lyso - 07. Portanto, esta molécula demonstrou-se promissora, mas ainda requer novos estudos para sua introdução futura no mercado

This study has as central theme the small district and the relationships established in the rural environment. The objective of the study is to analyze the reality from Cristais Paulista, located in the northeast of the State of São Paulo. Understanding as its relationship works, it was made a small rescue of classic studies on the relationship countryside-city, including the recent brazilian debate about the theme. In the present study we can observe the rural habits and also different urban customs in the small municipal district studied and also some particularities resulted of the social relationships among the residents of the countryside and of the city, always marked by the personality character. In the study of the small municipal district it was adopted as methodology the analysis Maria de Nazareth Baudel Wanderley (2001a), when she proposes five dimensions to analyze the municipal districts from Pernambuco. The application of the methodology in Cristais Paulista, allowed to understand the space building, the functions, the dynamics and the socio economical meanings of those small areas.

Influencia dos hábitos de sucção na manifestação de dor temporo-mandibular: revisão sistemática

Objective: To assess the attitudes and knowledge about hepatitis by scholars and dental practitioners from Recife and its metropolitan region. Method: The research protocol was submitted and approved by the Ethics and Human Research Committee of the Federal University of Pernambuco. There were included 230 undergraduate students in dentistry and 104 dentists who exercise their professional activity in Recife and its Metropolitan Region. They signed a consent form and answered a questionnaire, the evaluative instrument, with objective questions about biosafety, transmission of hepatitis and sexually transmitted diseases. Results: About the types of hepatitis 133 (57.8%) students and 61 (58.7%) professionals claimed to know the types A, B and C. Concerning transmission 31 (13.5%) students and 25 (24.0%) professionals said that the main route of transmission were sexual and bloodstream respectively. Relating to imunization 221 (96.1%) students and 99 (95.2%) professionals reported that have been vaccinated against hepatitis B, however, only 126 (54.8%) students and 55 (52.9%) professionals have followed the immunization’s schema. Regarding the cleaning of the office equipment, 18.7% of the students replied that they do not know who does it. 56.7% of professionals said that it was performed with alcohol 70 ° GL.Conclusions: The findings indicate that there is a concern for biosafety but the knowledge about the forms of hepatitis transmission and biosecurity measures need to be better settled.

In the first decades of the Republic, the streets of the main Brazilian capital cities, especially of Rio de Janeiro and Recife, recently urbanized based on the Haussmanian Paris and smiled upon by the fever of cosmopolitanism that invested Europe, women had been used as runways where they could exhibit her imitated or imported models, especially in Paris. The iconography of the time and the advertisements conveyed by magazines and illustrated periodicals, such as the Almanach de Pernambuco and the magazine Kosmos, for instance, form the testimonies of the massive presence of the French in Rio and Recife, owners of stores and maisons, interested in fulfill the demands of the republican public. In spite of the Strong adherence of the Brazilians to the sociability models to the imported from Europe, the less-favored classes, through the popular literature, showed some resistance to these changes in the habits and clothing, especially in the Northeast, where traces of the Catholic and patriarchal moral and mentality were still alive.

A crítica ensaística de Osman Lins sobre o acesso do jovem escolar à cultura brasileira

This text aims to address the critical essays of Osman Lins on the corpus of his works, reading and study, which consists of Portuguese textbooks adopted in schools for the teaching of the national language in the Secondary Course. More specifically, we intend to reflect on how Osman Lins analyzes the procedures adopted by the authors of these textbooks to introduce learners into Brazilian literature. Our object of study and analysis is restricted to six trials Lins published originally in 1965, the newspaper of Pernambuco University Press and later, in 1977, were collected in the form of the first chapter, titled "The Book didactic - First time: 1965 " (1977, p.13-40), the book From the Dream and Glory: Brazilian uncultural problems.
